Unofficial Minecraft Thread

Post » Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:32 am

Just found out about the game and did a search here. I see some people here play it, but I didn't see a thread specifically for it so I thought I'd start one up.

I just bought into the Alpha today and started up my first survival mode. I've watched a few bits on youtube so I kind of know what to do - but the lack of tooltips makes it hard to know what everything is in your inventory.

So what do people think of this game?

Also - here's a guy playing through for those who don't know what the game's about:

It's excellent when the mood strikes me, but I haven't been playing it much recently. Notch hasn't updated in ages.

I bought it thinking it would be a complete waste of money but I was wrong. It's pretty awesome.

He really, really needs to do a graphics update though.

I just screwed myself over in my first game.

It got dark and I panicked and ran to the room I'd built in a mountain. Well I hadn't made a torch yet - and without thinking I put two stone blocks in my 2 high doorway. Needless to say, I can't see a thing, and having moved the mouse I now have no idea which way I'm facing and can't dig my way out.

Reminds me of Morrowind, getting stuck in an ashstorm and getting totally lost and restarting.

There's some texture packs out there that will help with your issue.

I just made a furnace and cooked myself a porkchop! Man, this game is filled with awesomeness.

I hope it lasts, though. So far the fun is in discovering new things to do. Hopefully they build around it so that once that's done, all of those things are really useful and necessary as well.

I know there's a Dwarf Fortress to Minecraft map converter, but that's all I know about this game. So I guess I'll watch that Let's Play. :P

Edit: Looks pretty fun. Especially if I could import a Dwarf Fortress map into it!

I like how the graphics look right now. It's the gameplay that really counts.

I've been thinking about getting Minecraft, should buy it soon since it's only $15.

Haha, there's 1337 people playing MineCraft right now.

I'll probably get this game tomorrow or friday.

EDIT: well now there's around 1312.

I hope they fix multiplayer soon. I get a java error when I try to go on a server, and when I host my own server my friend can't connect.

This current game has been interesting, I started hollowing out a mountain for my starting base and I came across a lot of natural caves, but they're full of nasties so I'm gearing up to assault one of them and take it over, hopefully get some iron while I'm down there.

I've been building a giant castle. I finished the first tower on a safe bridge leading to my mine and soon my floor will be done and hopefully my dry moat won't be too long although it's ten deep and ten wide going around three fourths of the castle. I've spent about 50-100 stone Spades and Pickaxes and a great deal of stone Axes for wood to my tools and my scaffolds

This is the most addicting game I think I've ever played. Currently hollowing out a mine into the main mountain in my world. Haven't come across and iron or the like. What is the thing that looks like coal but in a tear drop shape?

Build scaffolds out of dirt, man.

That would be flint. You can make arrows and lighters out of that.

Wow, my first game was interesting. I was digging , and I dropped into a underground river. The river rushed me into some underground cavern filled with zombies. Thank god I had a sword on me, so I survived with a few hit points. I tried to dig my way out but somehow ended up being pushed by a river into a water filled cavern and drowned.

How the hell do you build a castle? I would love to see a picture of that, even if it's still a work in progress. All my buildings are just squares, and moats seem to be impossible (for me) since water level drops so quickly :/

Anyway, I can't wait for the multiplayer to be released, I would love to play with you guys

I want this game just so I could build a castle and defend it at night. May try and get it this weekend.

Got the game a few hours ago, and at first it said my video drivers were bad, yes, I just said that my video drivers weren't good enough for MINECRAFT.... But I just updated my drivers and it works just fine now. Is anyone gonna set up a BGSF server?

Anyway,, this is the best 12$ bucks I've ever spent.

I actually bought the game after it got attention on the TF2 blog. It looked good, and my friends loved it, so I thought I'd shell out the cash. I wasn't disappointed. It is really good, although there seems to be a lot of hate between DF and Minecraft. Dunno why, since I play both. :P

I tempted to get this, but it feels that game is too expensive for an alpha version.

Well, once it leaves Aplha stages the price is doubled. If you buy it now you get the beta and final versions for free.
