What about Flygon? Trapinch were abundant in the desert of ruby and sapphire.

But the desert is mid-late game, and Trapinch takes awhile to raise. Letting something be dragon type and level as fast as the starters would just make it overpowered and there'd be no reason to use any of the others. If they made it level as slow as a dragon, it'd be useless early game unless you want to grind forever, and by then you could have raised better pokemon anyway.

Swablu evolves at level 35 into a dragon/flying type. They were pretty common too, if I remember correctly. Altaria just svcks. :P

Yeah but you still couldn't get it at the start of the game, and Swablu didn't have the same base stats as is standard for the start trio. A dragon with similar base stats to any starter, available as the game begins and quick to level and evolve would be too good. By like the 4th gym you'd have no type besides ice that could hurt you at all, and how often do you see ice types? And dragon I suppose, but you never see anyone with dragons til late game, again for balance reasons.

If it were part grass type it would still be weak against flying, bug, and poison moves, wouldn't it?

The dragon cancels out all of those, I believe.

I thought it would only cancel out if one of the type was weak and had a 2x resistance. Dragon only resists electric, fire, water, and grass.

It still wouldn't make sense though, since fire type moves wouldn't be super effective against it and that's the whole point of the grass/fire/water trio.

Grass/Dragon is weak to flying/bug/poison/ice and resists water, electric and grass 4x,and ground 1x.

Every thing else is neutral,obviously.

If this was the Pokemon world, which Pokemon do you think would live around your general area?

Smeargle likes cities according to his pokedex entry in one of the games, don't remember which-would probably find him there also.

Makes sense, there would be plenty of spots for them to paint.

Wow, the animations look cool. I hope this game doesn't take another year to be released in the U.S.

My copy of Soul Silver came in the mail today! I'm glad I ordered when I did too, because it's back to being 40 bucks! (I got it at $28) I just picked Cyndaquil as my starter, can't wait to see how they've changed Pokemon for the DS.

EDIT: Or I would, if I could get a nature besides adamant or timid! I don't want to sacrifice either of my attacking stats...

Why would it take more time? If it's released in the fall like has been said, there's an extremely good chance it will come out in March or April of 2011, just like every game since Diamond and Pearl did.

Most of the grass/poison pokemon and quite a few of the tropically oriented grass, water, and bug pokemon (many, many, MANY bug pokemon).

Most common would probably be the Treecko line, the Oddish/Bellsprout lines (particularly Vileplume/Victreebell), some Lotad, the occasional member of the Bulbasaur and Totodile lines, Tropius (most copious!), more Spinarak/Ariados than you can shake a stick at, a few Ekans, and plenty of members of the Caterpie/Weedle/Venonat/Wurmple/Yanma lines. Oh, also some Exeggcute/tor, far too any Tentacool/cruel in the oceans, and the night sky would be full of Zu/Gol/Crobat.

Also, those battle scenes look freaking amazing.
