Unofficial Pokemon Thread #12

I thought salamence had a terrible move pool that didn't take advantage of his higher stat? (Can't remember if it's at or sp.)

He has Outrage,Earthquake and Fire Blast..what else does he need?

There isn't a single Pokemon in the game that resists those 3 moves, and he has absurdly high attack stats to fire them off of.

@ Peace,Mixmence rips holes in teams, the unexpected Draco Meteor can really throw people off.

Dnite has no similar Mix set,so I don't see what there is to talk about there..Mence>Dnite for every thing but a Heal Bell set and anti-lead(since Dnite gets priority and can always beat sash users),Dnite is a great poke but even with his great stats and move pool he's simply out-classed and what he does do better then Mence is better done by a different non-dragon Pokemon.

Just looked on my old Pearl game to see what my final team was and man I was a dike to the computer.
Infernape
Lucario
Absol
Pidgeot
(Last two were legendaries because hey, I'm not playing against people.)

Infernape:
-Mach Punch
-Close Combat
-Flamethrower
-Calm Mind

Lucario:
-Aura Sphere
-Drain Punch
-Dark Pulse
-Dragon Pulse

Pidgeot:
-Fly
-Aerial Ace
-Roost
-Feather Dance

Absol: (Scope Lense and Super Luck.)
-Cut
-Night Slash
-Psycho Cut
-Shadow Claw

Edit: Granted Infernape and Lucario where built to be sweepers and nothing more, pidgoet and absol were ass's due to what thy could do constantly. Pidgeot lowering defenses and healing up while absol crit with every single attack.

The new pokemon look stupid. So does the majority of the 4th gen too, hopefully there will be at least a few that don't look like a 5 year old drew them.

The chinchilla is super cute though. :D Too bad it'll probably svck.

The crocodile looks better than anything since Gen II. And the Pidgey replacement looks good too, it reminds me of Farfetch'd. The Gear is kind of cool but I doubt it'll be very useful. And what's wrong with the electric type? I mean, it's just as good as Shinx/Luxray and they were great.

The chinchilla has technician. So it's pretty much gonna be a murder machine.

Technician and bullet punch brought Scizor from BL to Uber... So yeah.

Scizor is uber now, really? In a way I'm glad because he's awesome but I'm also disappointed because can't really use him anymore. I wonder if B&W will totally mess up the tiers.

He isn't considered an Uber, but he can take on most of 'em, he's in OU I think.

The tiers set out for pokemon are a bit silly. They should have just simply done a top, high, mid, low, bottom thing instead of what they do now.

Why?

In the third gen at least, borderline pokemon were pretty much screwed. Weren't allowed in UU, but weren't usually good enough to make it in OU (usable, but outclassed by someone else).

I don't know about 4th gen, because I find tier lists arbitrary and dull.

NU=bad/outclassed pokes.
UU=good pokemon that can't fit into the standard metagame
BL=pokemon who are too good for UU but aren't used enough in OU to be standard
OU=standard
Uber=ban list

Seems fair enough to me..I don't see the point in what would be the same tiers just with different names. :/

With that said,BL are kind of screwed in most cases but that's just how it is..better then them being OP in UU.

Also @ Peace

Scizor is only used in Uber for a scout,he doesn't really "take on" every thing in Uber, his unique typing and perfect move pool for what he's used for allow him to find a niche Uber-while his usage is high there,it isn't fair to consider him on the same level of OPness Uber Pokemon generally are.

Where does Infernape stand in that list? I'm also curious about Yanmega, Absol, and Magmortar.

Infernape is top-tier OU,great Pokemon that is very hard to predict, such a great typing and move pool.

Yanmega-BL,He isn't terrible but taking 50% damage from Stealth Rock sealed his fate as just an "ok" Pokemon.

Absol is UU,he isn't really "bad" but he has problems, usually he is reserved for trying to just do damage-and he doesn't do that so well unless you're lucky with the crits.

He can work given the right conditions, but Drapion,Tyranitar and Skuntank function as better Pursuit users, and Absol lacks much to put it above it's fellow dark types.

Magmortar is NU,not a bad Pokemon but being a Fire type he's doomed to always see very little use(outside of the Fire's that are incredibly good overall like Infernape..they just don't see use.)

Can go to http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/ to see a more detailed breakdown of why certain Pokemon are good/bad-remember that this is purely for 6v6 battles in a competitive setting.

In-game any thing works, use what you want there. :)

I was just curious on how some of my favorites stacked up in tournaments. I know full well that anything works in game (my little murder machine bidoof).

Poison Dragon? That would be cool, but Reshram is a fire dragon which will be interesting.

Those rumors had better be true. I want to finally use poison types offensively instead of buffing my evasion to unholy levels and whittling down my opponents hp. Or using Toxicroak/Drapion.

People on TV Tropes keep on claiming that Isshu looks like the Tri-State Area, but I really don't see it.

Nintendo did say it would be in a far away place and last time I checked it's halfway around the world from Japan to New York.

For all I know it probably is, I just don't think it looks much like NYC and the surrounding area.

The buildings and stuff... or the geography?

Edit: Does anyone know a good EV spread and moveset for a mixmence?
