The fact is that no Pokemon in OU is capable of switching into every move on the MixMence set except Cressilia who is destroyed by Scizor and Tyranitar, which in the Mence era were both in top 10 usage constantly,Mence's attacking stats are just too good.
And with Intimidate it can switch into a lot of neutral attacks.
Also, every team in the Salamence era had 3+ checks for him proves he was broken IMO.
And just because you have an ice attack doesn't mean you can beat Salamence unless it's Ice Shard.
And no Ice Pokemon can switch into Draco Meteor, meaning you have to sacrifice a Pokemon to get your ice type in,and once you do Salamence will just switch out and come back in later to rip another Pokemon appart with DM.
Dragon's are just too good this generation, and I really like the Salamence-less metagame.
It's more diverse and a lot less centralized, not every team requires a Scizor now and there are a lot of different stall breakers instead of every team just using Salamence to rip stall appart.
Just my opinions but I think Smogon has done a very good job trying to balance out this broken generation..I hate to see it,but the fact is that the 3 dragons that have been banned really needed it,they're just way too good now.
Maybe it's because I haven't seen how powerful dragon prokemon are in this generation, since I've only gotten three badges in Pearl and my friend took back SoulSilver (really need to get a dedicated DS.... c'mon 3DS, lower the price of the DS Lite down to sub-$100 for me!) but just. It didn't seem ridiculously powerful in R/S/E and looking at it still does not seem to state "broken" to me.
Good lord competitive Pokemon is complicated and un-fun. I know you've said it really isn't but your post just furthers my belief that it is. I'm with Azaban, I'll stick to playing in the game where anything can beat anything given the right circumstances.
I stopped playing competitively after G/S/C because of it. Tried to get back into it with R/S/E but it just was no fun anymore.
