Unofficial 'PC Requirements' Thread 2

Post » Thu Jun 10, 2010 12:42 am

Well since I got the green light by Rohugh to make this thread, here it is.

Link to thread one - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1118747-can-my-pc-run-new-vegas/

Also check out this link. Its to 'Can you run it?' - http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

Heres everything from the previous thread thanks to CCNA:

To make this easy, if you can run Fallout 3, you can run New Vegas.

Here are the Reccomended Requirements. As you can see, the hardware needed is not bleeding edge, so most modern gaming PCs will have no issues running this game.

http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/10/01/new-vegas-news-its-done-plus-pc-reqs-and-cake/

As usual, on board graphics (no seperate video card) will not run this game. If you have that, you will have to investigate adding a video card to your current system. There may be some integrated graphics solutions coming that can run modern games, but for now, they are not up to the rendering needed.

If you have any doubts, please post what you have here and we will make a educated guess based on what we know about how Fallout 3 runs. However, this educated guess will be pretty accurate.

All other Hardware Threads will be closed and directed to this one.

and just where did you get that? Source? GeForce 7800 and Radeon X1900 doesn't make a whole lot of sense to be min requirements. Especially when you're talking about the Intel Pentium 4 at 2.4 GHz / AMD Athlon XP 2600+ in the same boat.

the second link looks like recommended but still differs in specs from the first link

then this is holds some similarities from the first two but not exactly identical.. i dono why people cant agree on something

Hi, thanks for creating this thread.

MY PC's getting on a bit.. although it exceeds the min requirements it's not by much... When I've just scraqed through before for minimum system requirements my experience of the game is a low frame-rate / choppy one.

Just wondering if there's likely to be any CVARs that I can enter via the console to lower things such as texture quality; improving performance. I'd rather forego a few of the bells and whistles for increased framerate..

Thanks

There should be graphic settings you can change with out having to use the console, and hopefully it will have launcher similar to Fallout 3 that will let you configure graphic settings before running the game.

AMD Athlon II X2 215 @ 2.7 GHz
4.0 GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 64bit
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 1 GB DDR3 (can over clock if i need to)
Free Disk Space: 220.9 GB
Direct X: 11.0

With these specs i should be able to run everything on high at the least and get decent frame rate i hope? :/

You should run High (ultra would be pushing it), depending on the resolution.
(And you dont have DX11. The OS has it, but neither the card nor the game supports DX11)

Yeah, around medium- high settings should be achievable with that resolution. As to the DX version, yeah all 3 things need to be able to support it: the OS, the card and the game.

I'm going to run it on a lappy with:
-T5800 C2D 2 GHz 800 MHz
-4 GB DDR2 RAM 800 MHz
-9650m GT 1 GB DDR2 OC'd - max temps 78'C (OCCT) - newest official drivers
-Vista 32-bit SP2

Do you think I have a chance for high settings with AAx2 in native resolution (1280x800) ? - I could run FO3 like that nicely....

That first link looks far too fishy and I don't buy it. The last link are requirements for Fallout 3, but is also more believable considering what's been said so far by developers of the game.

At that resolution, there's a decent chance you'll achieve that.

Windows XP home, service pack 3
Pentium 4, 3.0ghz single core (requirements list dual core 2.0 as minimum. This concerns me greatly.)
ATI HD4650 1gig video card
4gig DDR 400mhz RAM

At least it's quite fast single core CPU, I think you will manage, but without multi threading of a real deal witch dual core CPU's provide, you can experience occasional stuttering when bigger battles or events occur ingame.

I'm wondering if I should just cancel my preorder and put the money elsewhere. I really dont want to drop nearly 75 dollars (collectors edition) on a game that I won't really be able to play.

I think you will be able to play, just sometimes you can experiece a little stuttering - but that is not 100% sure, game might still run smoothly. We can't tell for sure till it's out.

Maybe this dual core min. req. of New Vegas is just a fuss....given by Obsidian only due to the fact that we are in dual core times....

Hopefully I can play this on a solid Moderate Quality? Or is not good enough or able to display higher quality?
As long as I can run it I'll be happy. My GHz is worrying me though.

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000 + (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Resolution: 1600 x 900 (32 bit) (60 Hz)
Display: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

I don't know a lot about computers, so thanks. :)

You should be fine:)

Medium settings with distance sliders high or short visial distance, but higher settings IMO

OK awesome. Thanks heaps for that.
So the GHz won't be a problem, even though it's below the minimum requirements? Sounds good if so.

Also a nice tip for fps boost!

You can get an easy ~5 fps boost, by unchecking 1 minor graphical feature in the game - the shiny surface effect on all objects
You can do this in FO3 by checking the specularpass=1 to 0 in the .cfg file - you won't notice much difference in the game (in fact I considered the shiny surface effect on objects in FO3 disturbing) - but you should have noticable fps boost ingame by even 5fps !
