Unofficial SteamDRM Discussion #36

Post » Sun Jun 22, 2014 2:53 am

Due to threads about Steam/DRM in Bethesda games being scattered in many game sections across the forum which makes it very difficult to moderate and the number of problems in each one, we have decided to have one thread for the discussion for everyone to discuss various forms of DRM/Steam in one place.

At the present we have no information about what DRM future games being published by Bethesda will have. There has been no formal announcement about it so this thread is merely for expressing your thoughts on various possibilities and expressing your thoughts about Steam and/or other DRM options which may be used.

The following rules will apply to this thread as well as all forum rules already in place.

1. No flaming, attacking or demeaning one another for their opinion about Steam/DRM (pro or con)
2. Any encouragement of piracy will result in a warning and temporary suspension of your account. Admission of piracy will result in a ban. This includes circumventing DRM of any kind.
3. Repeated posts by the same member to say the same thing can be considered spam and result in a warning against your account.

Rage has been confirmed to use Steamworks.

from #35

1. This isn't an issue with GOG, many of their games come with Dosbox

2. I don't see an issue with this batch either.

3. These should work as well.

4. Battlespire may be a decent GOG Galaxy candidate

Redguard:

Playable
To play you must install DOSBox with Gulikoza's patch
(use Ykhwong's build). Read nGlide's FAQ for more details.

edit: So a GOG version should work as there are other 3dFX based games there

One thing I'm curious of is are there other people like me that use both Steam and GoG and are happy with both.

Yes I use both GoG and Steam and I am happy using both.

I am not happy with AAA PC versions of video games being sold on Steam exclusively. I want AAA PC versions of video games also sold on gog.com as well.

I also want the physical boxed versions of the PC versions of video games sold at brick and mortar retailer stores world wide to be 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free. This is why I purchased 1 physical boxed version of the collector's edition of the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from amazon.com (I Wanted to purchase 2 more physical boxed versions of the collector's edition of the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for 2 of my real life friends to gift for their birthdays. But I was to late and the physical boxed versions of the collector's edition of the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was out of stock when I wanted to purchase 2 more.), 1 regular physical boxed version of the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, 1 copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from gog.com, and 1 copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from Steam. I will do this same exact thing for Cyberpunk 2077 when it goes up for pre-order.

This is why I am purchasing the PC versions of video games from CD Projekt RED for years to come. ZeniMAx Media inc. and Bethesda Softworks would of got 3 copies of the PC versions of video games that they publish sold each time they released a new video game for sale if they did exactly what CD Projekt RED does. This is why The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the last video game I purchased published by ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks in 2011.

I really want to purchase RAGE 3 times but can't because it's sold on Steam exclusively, Dishonored 3 times but can't because it's sold on Steam exclusively, Doom 3: BFG Edition but can't because it's sold on Steam exclusively, and Wolfenstein: The New Order but can't because it's sold on Steam exclusively.

As you can see I really love video games published by ZeniMaX Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks and the 7 AAA video game development companies that they own I have been a customer to them purchasing the video games that they publish since 2002 when The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind released for sale. But after I purchased The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim I decided to stop purchasing video games published by them since 2011 because I am annoyed by the PC versions of the video games that they publish being sold on Steam exclusively.

If AAA video game publishing companies and AAA video game development companies sold their PC versions of video games on gog.com 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free as well as 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free physical boxed versions of the PC versions of video games to brick and mortar retailer stores world wide. Then I would gladly purchase 1 physical boxed version of their PC versions of video games from brick and mortar retailer stores, 1 copy from gog.com, and 1 copy from Steam.

I will also possibly purchase more than 1 copy of each for my family members and real life friends to give as gifts for their birthdays, Easter, and Christmas. Especially 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free physical boxed versions of the PC versions of video games sold to brick and mortar retailer stores because. 1. I like to collect physical boxed PC versions of video games to put on my shelf and. 2. Because I have quite a few family members who live in a 3rd world country (I should say 2nd world country who cannot get internet in the rural area they live in) but have PC's to play on and real life friends who also don't have any internet because they refuse to get internet to pay each month for and most of my real life friends who refuse to get internet like to play singleplayer only video games. As well as some of my real life friends not being able to pay each month for internet because they are way to busy working to pay off student loans for their colleges or universities.

I do, and any other digital download service as well. The big difference with me is that I very rarely pay full price for any games, and usually pay less than $10. There aren't any games that are released that I HAVE to play at release so I wait for bugs and stuff to get sorted out and pay what I want to pay.

I use Steam regularly and I love it. I have only ever used GoG for one or two games, but I like it just fine.

In a large number of situations, people who claim to hate Steam don't use it based solely on principle, rather than due to any negative experience they have actually ever had with it.

I like Steam I have been using Steam since 2004. But I hate steam for another reason as I explained why in a comment above sbr32. Did you read why I hate Steam so much?

Yes, and you want a pipe dream.

But either way, you're acting practical and saying "yes, I have problems with this service, but I still like the service for a huge number of other reasons," as opposed to seeing some things that you don't like about it and violently refusing to use it merely based on principle.
