Unofficial "Will My PC run Fallout 4?" Thread #7

Ah the good old fps arguments again.

I remember playing shooters on 333fps. The higher the fps the more responsive the game was, for competitive shooters they had special 1k fps servers.

Certain tricks were also only possible at a specific fps, i remember all kinds of grenade throws or jumps you could only do at particular fps rates such as 125, 333 and 500.

So i always chuckle when people talk about movies and fps. It's apples and oranges.

@Crippknottick.
Thanks, you are the first person I've come across that hasn't said I should of saved cash and bought a 970.

My way of thinking was, I spend a little extra now and don't have to upgrade so soon in the future. I had the spare cash and took the plunge..... I have zero regrets.

High settings probably

Ultra Settings

Medium is about right

High settings probably

Windows 10
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 3 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 16 GB

Intel Iris Graphics:
Chipset Model:Intel Iris
Type: GPU
Bus: Built-In
VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB
Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Displays:
LED Display:
Display Type: LCD
Resolution:1920 x 1200

I expect that as they do the development work with Nvida the selection of a
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB or better graphics card is the starting point:
With a
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6GHz or better Processor.
I am looking for MOBO recommendations And I hope to do this with
just buying a new mobo with upto date WiFi,
graphics card, 16 gb ram,and a 1 tera SSD and power supply

so Shopping lists for the above gratefully received its been about 10 years
since my last home assembled computer so I am not up to date.

Cheers Windy

I asked on another Gaming forum with lower traffic and was told

to take it to a Hardware only forum and site....

but to open this up for discussion I will repost the reply I got here:

it said that in addition to reusing my Case
keyboard & mouse and display I buy:

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H Motherboard (about $160)
Intel i7-4790 (and good chip cooler ???) (about $350 and ??? $150 for a cooler)
Asus STRX GTX 980 for the graphics card (about $550)
750W Power supply (about $100)
Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SATA III SSD (about $350)
16 GB of DDR3 ram (about $90)

so it looks like this would cost about $ 1,750 reusing my old tower case
with its DVD Burner and some old Had rd drives for extra storage
If I wanted a new mid tower case it would add another $70 to $100...
Prices from a quick look at NewEgg and rounding up

And other suggestions? $1,500 to $2,000 is the range I am comfortable with.

Why is the PC in your TV room non-upgradeable? What's the brand and model of this PC? Or is it a notebook?

That list of components suggested to you is rather high-end and not all necessary to be honest. Can do with

Core i5 4690K

GeForce GTX 970 to save lots

650W max PSU from respectable brand

256GB or 500GB SSD to save lots

8GB RAM is plenty sufficient for gaming.

Don't just blow money away.

You should be fine for Ultra in FO4. Whether it's 60 fps, you have to wait and see.

Always good advice even more so now that I am retired and on a fixed income. Thanks.

Its an Apple Mac MiNi running OS X 10.11.3b that I got as a gift from a friend shutting down his Biz... I like the Mac side for all my music and for dull things like email and writing but I don't really try to use it for games. other than ESO and that it runs very well on high graphics settings and i can toss the screen up to the big Plasma and its high end sound system at 1090P .

I run Boot Camp Windows 10 on it with few very problems though some games just won't run at all like SWTOR. Dragon Age Origins plays very well on it though and eve Marvel heroes 2015 plays well at medium...

so no way to tell if Fallout 4 will cause the Iris graphics to barf when I try it on tuesday... I expect it will be unhappy with the Iris graphics and so I am doing my research as I enjoy playing games in my TV room with my feet up and my beer in the theater seating cup holder. :foodndrink:

For me there are differences. And second of all people who are building pc's they are doing this with passion. What could u do with console? - add bigger hard drive? You even can't use a keyboard and a mouse.

There are people who will never buy console and those who will never buy pc. For the price of console I would prefer to upgrade my pc. Games for pc are slightly cheaper than for consoles. ;)

Keep in mind, this topic is for discussion of Fallout 4's hardware specs and recommendations about how your PC might perform.

For more general technology questions please use the other thread here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1541774-the-community-tech-thread-no-152/

Yes please, enough with the console vs PC discussions. This is not the place for it.

Yea, unfortunately an Apple Mac Mini leaves much to be desired in terms of upgrade-ability. And no, I wouldn't even bother trying the game out on that...the Iris integrated graphics is rather undesirable.

Can do these upgrades for a little under $1200:

CPU+MOBO+GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2157964

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438048

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568

SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373

Coming this holiday, there should be plenty of SSD sales. Seen the 500GB model go down to $140 and even the 1TB model go down to $280. Don't need 1TB honestly. Can always still use a 1TB HDD for your storage files and just run applications on the SSD. I'm still rocking a 256GB SSD with two 1TB drives for storage because I don't have that many applications installed on my SSD at a time.

Another option for under $950 that would still get you Ultra settings:

CPU+MOBO+GPU+RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2471136

RAM extra: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104458&ignorebbr=1

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438048

SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373

I hope you do have a decent case

Ok . . . . do NOT diss Mac users in the topic !!!

I want to run Fallout 4 in emulation on my Mac with Parallels 11 software and Windows 10.

My Mac has the specifications ABOVE the Minimum Requirements.

Will Bethesda turn off all Mac gamers for the future OR CHOOSE to let us do this?

There is NO need to diss Mac users . . . they generate revenue also!

I plan to run Fallout 4 in Parallels 11 and Windows 10 on a Mac.

I seem to have a little above the minimum requirements.

Any comments?

My home office computer is a 5K 27" iMac that i use for solid cad design work (I was an engineer before i Retired and still do enough contract design work to justify it) and I have no doubt that under boot camp it will be an adequate machine for fallout 4. I just prefer not to play in my work space and if I have have Ramen Noodles a few times a week for a gaming PC so be it... I will of course load fallout 4 on the iMac esp. if I won't run on the TV room computer... I wonder if I could set the iMac to HD TV resolution and then use air play to send it to the big plasma screen and then run a long usb cable to the tv room for the mouse and keyboard.... now that would be a silly lash up... I wonder how long a usb cable can be....

anyway this is the spec of my solid Cad iMac and even though it is in essence a mobile set up in its internal components it works well doing high end solid modeling and rendering.

3.3GHz quad?core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz)

Configurable to 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz)

32GB (four 8GB) of 1867 Mhz DDR3

1 TB SSD with 4 more in a ThunderBay Thunderbolt box set up as RAID 5

AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB of GDDR5

it will be fun to see what fallout 4 looks like at 5120?by?2880

"Below Low Settings: Mostly cards from years past. This is the area where upgrading should strongly be considered. Or just get it for the XB1/PS4."

I can see the subtle jab taken at consoles but I agree.

Um, I wasn't aware I was "dissing" Mac users...

Of course there are several different lines of Macs out there with different hardware configs. I'm just responding to a member's Mac Mini and it's inability to be upgraded...it's unfortunate, but nonetheless true. Not sure why this is being taken as a "diss".

If you want an assessment for your Mac, you need to list the specs.

 In no way was that a jab taken at consoles. The reality is one in that below low settings category should question whether they really want to buy/build a new PC for this game, upgrade significantly, or simply save the money and get it for the console.

Seriously, are my statements that insensitive to Mac and console users???

Interesting setup, but at that resolution I think you'd struggle a bit. The M395X is like the Radeon 280X desktop card and that should get you high settings at 1080p. I too would be curious what that drops to at what looks to be 5K resolution.

This should be of interest to everyone.

...BENCHMARKS!!!

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Fallout-4-Spiel-18293/Specials/Test-Benchmark-vor-Release-1177284/

It looks like my laptop [i7 4710HQ/980m 8GB/16GB] will be able to do 1440p and stay above 30fps min. [Approximating that I will perform between the 1440p results of GTX 770 and GTX 970]

I was wondering if I'll be able to play at release on my laptop (I've ordered a new rig, but was told it would be 2-3 weeks on the build due to backordered parts :(

CPU - Intel i5-4200M 2.5 GHz 2/4 (cores/threads)

RAM - 6 GB

GPU's (as in 2 of them) - nvidia GT 750M (not sure if having dual gpu's will make up for lack of cpu)

Just want to be able to plod along (if necessary) until I get my I7-6700k / GTX 980 ti system........

Hmm, according to this my 750 Ti would manage at around 25 fps ( reduced because of a weaker CPU ) with max settings @ 1080p. Let′s see where I can optimize some stuff so I can atleast get max texture details.

Damn. Even with everything at low I won′t hit 60 fps. It really looks like I need to hit up on a 970.
