Unofficial "Will My PC Run Fallout 4?" Thread

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:35 pm

I don't quite meet the recommended specs, but my i5 3570K and GTX 660 are closer to the recommended than they are to the minimum, so I should be good in the hardware department even if I can't play on ultra. I can do DirectX 11.0, but not 11.1, so I hope those OS requirements are precise.

I imagine those specs are for 1080p. Most PC requirements are.

If your CPU is your bottleneck though, reduced resolution probably isn't going to help too much. I imagine the higher CPU requirements are being used for things like enemy AI, NPC radiant system, etc. So we're probably seeing a combination of MORE NPCs and smarter NPCS.

I wouldn't be so sure about the bottleneck. I have a similar set up (less ram though), and my CPU is OC'd a bit, but I tried the Epic Citadel benchmarking utility and I saw fps results that were only 1-2 fps off from more modern i7s. Of course, just a benchmark, but who knows . . .

I should be able to run this on my laptop on medium settings at least no? My CPU is slightly weaker than the recommended but better than the minimum.

Windows 10 64 Bit

Intel core i7 4710MQ @2.5GHz

16GB DDR3 RAM

AMD Radeon™ HD8970M @ 3GB

I'm sorry, but they are not. A 660 is about the same as the 7870 in the minimum specs. The 290X in the recommended specs is twice as fast as your 660.

No worries, I'm just really glad they finally released the specs!

I had a feeling that the recommended specs would be fairly high. Nevertheless I still pass easily with a 4790k, gtx 970 and 16GB RAM.

Still could you imagine the kind of specs you might need to have for you to be able to use modded texture packs and ENB?

Perhaps, but then some games are much better optimized for Nvidia than they are AMD. The Nvidia minimum is the GTX 550 ti.

I only barely meet the minimum requirements with my i5 2500K, but I doubt that it'll matter all of that much. I can't imagine that the CPU would be used that much to where it would bottleneck and even if it is there's always overclocking.

Probably just a little better if you're okay with an inconsistent framerate. I'd assume that the recommended specs are more the "it will run at a great framerate ALL THE TIME!" specs.

My 3570K, GTX 970, 16GB machine will run the game fine I suppose. Unless they're serious about that i7 requirement, which I doubt.

I should've added that, the only component that might benefit from my lower res screen is my GPU. And it's slightly beyond recommended specs so it's not the problem with my system.

I tried to OC my i7 2600k but it just crashes my system as soon as I play any game for more than an hour. Even if I do the tiniest overclocking it crashes every game. I checked the difference between it and the recommended CPU, in games and applications, it's a 5% difference or less. So no big deal.

The 660 http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1133?vs=1039 the performance of the 550 Ti, so he should be fine. I mentioned on the last page that the 7870 is not the minimum spec, it's the 7820. Edit--I was mistaken.

Where are you getting that, though. If I follow the link in the OP, to the Beth.net page, it says 7870.

With a 64 bit .exe - I am looking forward to a TTW bundle that runs Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and Fallout 4 on this new engine!

Enough content - for years.

Thanks.

My card is apparently #57.

Can't find the GTX 550 Ti with 2GB, but the 1GB is #113

The GTX 780 3GB is #21

So, I guess I'm between the two. Well I upgraded my PC about a year after I got Skyrim (since I couldn't use the HD DLC), so I imagine I'll be upgrading this one in a year or so to make FO4 a whole new experience for me.

I don't think the HD 4600 is going to cut it--it ranks http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp%5B%5D=2451&cmp%5B%5D=16 than the GTX 550 Ti. Intel HD graphics are generally not adequate for gaming.

Sorry, you're right, my mistake. I could have sworn I read 7820 when I went back to check earlier.

Yeah I checked the wrong display in dxdiag, I'm running a AMD Radeon™ HD8970M @ 3GB - would this be ok? Seems to fit in between minimum and recommended.

nvidia I've noted makes a lot of game specific updates to their drivers also, so I'm sure that FO4 will get some drivers to help out as well.

Unlikely to happen, unfortunately. You'd have to completely remake the entirety of both games in the Fallout 4 engine. Ass for why that wouldn't work check out Skywind or Morrowblivion.
