Unofficial "Will My PC Run Fallout 4?" Thread

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:53 pm

So what will the fact that I have a i7-3770K 3.5 (3.9 Turbo) processor do? That's *just* below the Recommended. Do you think it will have much impact? Will the fact that I am installing it on an SSD compensate somewhat? Or...? I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about PCs as I would like to be.

I think I'm about in line with recommended specs:

Processor - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0 GHz
Memory - 16 GB DDR3 1600
Storage - 2 TB SATA III 7200 RPM
Graphics - AMD Radeon R9 270 2 GB
The only thing that has me worried is the lackluster 2GB on my GPU :/

Almost everything that changes going from High to Ultra is GPU-based (texture and model quality, shadows, post-processing, LOD distance etc). The CPU load is more about running AI and scripts. Some of that may impact framerate, but the graphics quality level shouldn't change that. An SSD should certainly help smooth things out, since they've talked about dynamically streaming more things as you move through the game world. Faster data access means shorter load times and less stutter as assets get moved into memory.

The fact it's on SSD is irrelevant to the CPU question. The SSD will just make some areas load faster, travel outside may be a tiny fraction smoother (probably no noticeable difference).

The slightly weaker CPU probably won't have any noticeable effect on normal gaming, although it might give slightly lower framerates with areas that have complex lighting (more light sources, more cast shadows) or really convoluted layout (more CPU load calculating what bits of the vault or building you can see through the doorway through which you can see a window into a long hallway). Possibly certain graphics settings might pull your framerate down more than on a stronger CPU, but until the game's out we can't know.

Where you'll most notice a CPU slightly below recommended is if you try to use a lot of script-heavy mods.

Sounds like I got about a month to start reading up on overclocking my cpu. My i5 4690k can handle it, but I'd like to have a little more wiggle room for my 1440p monitor... I wonder if there is a way to post in these kinds of threads without sounding like a showoff.

The weird part is that Wticher 3 had the same minimum requirements but without mentioning VRAM. I wonder if 1GB VRAM can run this like it did for W3. Or if the game will refuse to even launch at 1GB VRAM. I just don't see myself forking out 300$ right now.

Quit yer bragging!!! :D

I've overclocked my 5820K to 4.0GHz (from stock speed of 3.3GHz). It was surprisingly simple, i just went into the BIOS and adjusted my clock multiplier. I could have pushed it further (I've read of people getting a stable 4.5GHz with this CPU), but then you have to start adjusting the voltage and doing a lot more testing to verify stability.

Those CPU requirements are oddly high IMO.

Like higher than Witcher 3 high. I wonder how my [email protected] will handle it.

So, me just being curious, I priced just CPU, GPU, and RAM for a minumum build and came to around $516. That's obviously without case, mb, power supply, etc. How are we thinking that will run against a $400 xbox one? Obviously bare minimum won't run 60fps reliably so that whole "consoles won't run at 60fps" argument goes out. I'll wait and see how mods are handled on consoles, but it would seem that a minimum build holds nothing over an xbox. Not meant to detract from the conversation but I find it interesting

I beat none of those requirements. :D

Ah well, I was planning on using a console anyway.

That is surprising, for that graphics system requirements are too high.

I think they are even higher then Witcher's 3 system requirements.

I hope they did not messed up optimization of the game, Skyrim was a very well optimized game.

Well, the only thing that Bethesda usually half-asses in technical department is the User Interface.

Did they say somewhere that X1 and P4 will run F4 at 60fps?

They are indeed higher than Witcher 3 in every single category.

Looks like I'll avoid an upgrade. 3570k at 4.2 ghz and a 970 should do pretty nicely. Probably won't be able to completely max it out, but it'll be close to it and more than enough to keep me happy.

No they specifically said it was locked to 30fps. What I was saying is that (and this is assuming) the bare minimum requirements for PC that they have listed, likely wouldn't run 60fps reliably. So when the 30fps for consoles was announced the collective "pc master race" laughed. I was looking at xbox one to these minimum specs and weighing pros and cons of which there may only really be the accessibility to mods and such. I'd think x1 meets those requirements and comes in at about half the cost. Like, comparitively, what are opinions on bare min pc specs they posted vs x1?

Well here's my specs

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel Core I5-2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz (4 CPUs)

6 GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

209 GB Free space

I dont really have any interest in HD texture pack mods or ENB, the game looks great as it is. However, I really have no interest playing below High Settings (fine without Ultra though). Any input?

Why are the graphic requirements so high? I'm totally gonna have to sell a kidney.

EDIT:

Or maybe not.

i think they misspelled 560ti. 550ti is not in any way equivalent to HD 7870

Windows 10 64 Bit

Intel core i7 4710MQ @2.5GHz (8 core)

16GB DDR3 RAM

AMD Radeon? HD8970M @ 3GB

I think I'm in the middle of the pack like other people. My CPU is a bit under recommended as well as my GPU so probably medium settings for me. ^__^

Looks like the PC I bought back in summer specifically to murder Fallout 4 is 100% confirmed to murder Fallout 4.

By the way if anyone hasn't tried out a SSD, I highly recommend it. I am pretty convinced it actually contains a Welkynd Stone inside of it that powers a high tech magic reactor that makes everything I do with my computer operate at the speed of light.

Oh.

...

...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... cough cough.

Anyway. The price isn't really a factor for me. I just have to convince the wife that I won't be able to file our taxes on the old PC due to software changes and therefore I need to upgrade it. Granted I'm not going to spend $5K on some Alienware machine as I just think it's a waste of money, but upgrading to recommended levels wouldn't be an issue. But I'll wait and see what my current system can do.
