Is it odd that they still haven't released the system requirements? Or is it standard practice to release it really close to the release date?

I would imagine, after recent PC requirements disasters this year for AAA games, Bethesda wants to make absolutely SURE they are giving accurate PC requirements. I imagine we will see something official in the next couple of weeks.
My guess is they are doing last minute tweaking, and trying to see how low it can go. Anyhow my rule of thumb is this, if you can play skyrim with an enb, and high res textures your golden. Why that rule? Because the trailers look like some enbs, and high res textures for skyrim are better then fallout 4*.
*I am not saying fallout 4s art direction is bad, but they are gearing it for the lowest bit of hardware possible, so higher res packs would be neat.
Indeed. They probably aren't even sure yet what the min requirements are.
This entirely normal.
I'd expect specs to be released around October 22nd, so another 2.5 weeks I reckon.
As they continue to tweak, why confirm specs until they have to?
When they have to is when the game goes 'Gold' and is sent for pressing.
EDIT: oh, I missed Gstaff's post, looks like a few days earlier than that then, super.
That's not even a given that they'll need to be finished tweaking the PC version before it goes 'Gold' and the discs are manufactured. The PC version already requires Steam. With digital downloads and Day 1 patches, they can continue to optimize even after the master goes out to the production facilities.
Thanks for the answers.
This doesn't help the OP but judging by the screenshots I'm not too worried about my PC being able to run it. If it can run stuff like DAI and SoM at relatively high settings I think I should be hopefully fine. Maaaybe.
It's pretty good.
oh. by the way, you should have a https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87106516/fishy_stick.jpeg...
(and here's http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/fishy-stick)
Certainly. Although you may need to be careful about texture packs. If memory serves dedicated memory is what your graphics card uses. And higher res texture mods can eat through it fast, if your not paying attention.
Word of caution, this is just a guess. I'd still take a look at the system requirements when they release them, later this month.
All speculation at this point, but that's a pretty great system. I'm guessing you should be able to run it on High at 1080p. Like Mavkiel said, you'll just need to be careful installing texture mods and packs. Your graphics card only has 2GB of Video RAM.
i have a similar setting that u, with minor difference(my system is a little stronger that yours), and im running Witcher 3 or GTV almost max out. so u will be fine. i really doubt anything from 960 up will have problem running Fallout 4 mid-max setting.

Yay! I exceed the recommended video RAM by 1 GB and the general RAM by 8 GB. Everything else is met exactly. =D
I'm surprised at the recommended GPU. GTX 780 isn't exactly new, but it's still pretty high end. I've got a GTX 980, so no worries there for me. At least the minimum GPU is only a GTX 550 Ti, so we know the games scales pretty well for those with older mid-spec systems.
No surprise that this game requires 64 bit, but the minimum RAM spec is a little more than I would have expected.
Didn't mean to steal your thunder!
Checked for a thread, posted, saw yours there as well once I got back to the main page.
i'm ok with those specs, can't wait to play.
Wow those specs are higher than I expected. My GTX 770 and i5 processor don't even meet the recommended specs (not that they're that great, but I certainly thought they'd be enough).
A little disappointing. But I suppose that's the price you pay for a game this huge.
There's something wrong with these specs. The 7870 is faster than the 550. Like, http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1133?vs=1076. The 7870 = GTX 660 or 950.
I'm not surprised about the 8 GB RAM requirement. That's the same amount of RAM as current gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One. We are obviously going to see a lot more texture work and larger environments.
And I hope I'm not the only one giddy with delight over the 64-bit OS requirement. We're finally getting a 64-bit .exe guys!
And major success on my PC build! I'm going to destroy Fallout 4. Which was the plan ....
i7 4790 4.0ghz
32 GB RAM
GTX 980 ti
EDIT:
That is weird. I hope it's not indicative of poorer AMD performance. I'm firmly in the Nvidia camp, but I want all my PC brothers and sisters to have a great Fallout 4 experience.
