Unofficial "Will My PC run Fallout 4?" Thread #3

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:21 am

Your CPU and RAM are fine but your GPU is just barely above the minimum 550 Ti.

I didn't know that there was a 4GB variant of the 460. I was only aware of 768MB and 1GB VRAM models.

Does yours really have 4GB?

The size of fan will generally be determined by the size of the fan fitting position in your PC case.

The sizes of all the fans are measured along any one of the fan's four sides, NOT the distance between the fan's screw holes !!!

(that's not because the design of the fans but the design of the PC cases.)

As for the thickness (depth) of the fan, generally 25mm (1 inch) is by far the most common depth, although smaller fans can have shallower depths such as 15mm or even 10mm.

If you know the distance between the fan mounting screw holes but don't know the fan size, just see belove:

Screw hole spacings and fan sizes

32 mm between screw holes - 40mm fan size

40 mm between screw holes - 50mm fan size

50 mm between screw holes - 60mm fan size

60 mm between screw holes - 70mm fan size

72 mm between screw holes - 80mm fan size

83 mm between screw holes - 92mm fan size

105 mm between screw holes - 120mm fan size

124.5 mm between screw holes - 140mm fan size

Note: The mounting hole measurements are taken horizontally or vertically between the holes and not diagonally. !!!

I am blown away that they can fit all that into a laptop these days. You'd think the chips would just melt into a pile of goo inside that slim casing. I'm not into laptops myself (I prefer the larger screens ... well my eyes do anyway), though my kids use their laptops for college all the time.

I would imagine that cramming everything into to such a small chassis and getting it to run efficiently takes a very particular set of skills ;)

The one concern I have is how well will my cpu will hold up to ultra settings.

Windows 7

CPU: Intel i7 4820k

RAM:16 gigs corsair vengeance DDR3

GPU: Gtx 780 ti

1tb Samsung ssd (I will store the game here)

Will this build run ultra with the cpu us my main issue. I might upgrade the gpu at a later date to help with a possible high resolution texture pack if Bethesda does something similar like the high res pack for skyrim.

Intel I7-2600 3.4ghz

8g ram

nvidia geforce gtx555 1gb

any chance this will play it. I cannot upgrade due to size and age problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Magic. Alien tech. That's the only way to explain it.

Well if I don't get a new PC with my next upgrade it will at least be the video card. The 980 looks pretty incredible.

It means I don't know if it's worth the trouble to gut my PC to change it.

I thing you will be able to play it at 1080p ultra settings. !!!

That's a very fast laptop (of the fastest laptops around)

Only for the history, your Laptop uses a Desktop CPU.

So, because of that the processor can be replaced. !!! YES you heard right !!!

(very unlikely for the most other laptops around)

To give you some data, you will be able to play:

Dirt Rally (2015) ~ 62.7 fps
Metal Gear Solid V (2015) ~ 36.9 fps
Mad Max (2015) ~ 34.5 fps
World of Warships (2015) ~ 45.3 fps
FIFA 16 (2015) ~ 92.4 fps

All the above are at 4K (if you want to.)

Also, keep in mind that Laptop gets hot if you play (~ 600C mostly on the rear site), so don't rest it on your knees if you play games. !!!

Not to forget: CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW LAPTOP !!! :icecream:

Nope, not worth it. The performance would be not that much more. !!!

That was easy actually. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?s=2b9a63607fa8c687651a4bb35a9aafbb&&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

Just because his laptop has a desktop processor does NOT mean it's replaceable. LGA processors can be surface mounted (and likely are in a laptop). It's very unlikely a laptop has an MB that has a desktop type of processor socket (just too bulky for the confined space of a laptop). Now if it's a large frame type laptop, it could have a standard CPU socket tho some laptops are designed to have upgradeable CPUs (usually mounted on some sort of proprietary CPU daughter board or special socket / heatskink combo).

Keep in mind that the battery life of a full desktop CPU in a laptop would be pretty bad and the heat output would be concerning (both are reasons why Intel makes it's mobile line of processors).

Thank you, that is very useful info :goodjob:

Also, most of the heat is thrown out the back of the chassis, making it easier to use on your lap (my son has the U505)

Already confirmed that the CPU and GPU are both upgradable (later options will most likely include the desktop GTX 980 mentioned above). Also, there is a setting to divert power away from the battery when the laptop is plugged in. This extends the battery life by around 100%.

It is replaceable. You can order custom and upgrade CPU/GPU. We all know the battery is for show.

Ok I'll pipe in, pretty sure my set up could at least do with a new CPU (which will no doubt also mean a new motherboard), but I am pretty strapped for cash right now so I'm not looking to upgrade it to run at the highest settings :(

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz

ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E (LGA1156)

8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 657MHz

4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (MSI)

2 X 447GB SSD

@Lkory

There is no doubt that the GTX 460 does not have 4GB of dedicated memory. (it's a year 2010 GPU)

Look at your dxdiag.txt file under: (not on your dxdiag.exe tool file at the Approx. Total Memory !!!)

Scroll down to: Display Devices

You will see: Display Memory, Dedicated Memory, Shared Memory.

That's what you looking for is the: Dedicated Memory

You should see either ~768MB or ~1024MB

That's your dedicated GPU memory.

ya dedicated memory is not there, but yeah 1gig probably, as this was a pretty med-high rig in 2010

Still ran DA:I without any problem on custom very high while i was under the required specs. We will see, not really bothered as the new PC is almost done, waiting to get some deals on the last pieces before putting it all together.

I am guessing I'll be able to play on low settings. The CPU is above the min but the GPU is below the min:

I5 2430M

Radeon HD 6650 2 GB

8 gb ram

What do you think?
