Unofficial "Will My PC run Fallout 4?" Thread #3

Hardware Guide coming soon from yours truly  . Still trying to sort some of the confusions I have with the min reqs with the devs hopefully soon. There are large performance gaps within the min requirements by itself.

In case it's helpful in the meantime, here is a benchmark list for comparing your desktop or laptop hardware (graphics cards and processors) to those included in the published requirements:

That's a bad idea. The 750 Ti is slower than the Radeon 370. With a good enough CPU and ample RAM , the 370 can probably achieve high settings at 1080p.

High settings probably

260X is the weakness, but still capable of medium settings me thinks

Not a chance. Weak old dualcore and integrated graphics not meant for gaming. Would have to upgrade everything probably.

High settings likely

GPU will probably give you a slideshow. Upgrade that and possibly the power supply to accommodate the upgrade and you should be good. If you want suggestions, it depends on what you can afford.

At least medium settings and perhaps even some high at 1080p me thinks.

Noticed and mentioned this the first day the reqs came out. Trying to sort that mess with admins who I hope can get me in touch with some devs. We shall see.

Its definitely a range within the minimum requirements itself.

GPU super weak...highly recommend upgrade. Game would be super slow if it manages to run on a GT 630.

Just for reference.

Windows 10 Home, 64-bit

Intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

16.0 GB RAM

GeForce GTX 660 2MB GDDR5

1920x1080 monitor

Think I'm good. Will need to update things to max out though. Especially when the graphic mods start coming out.

Nope, you need only a faster GPU, that's all. !!!

i5-3570K 3.40GHz

12 GB RAM

GeForce 670 GTX - 2GB

Expect it to run on medium, probably with V-Sync turned off.

Golden on everything else

Medium settings probably. GPU upgrade will help.

You probably could get some high settings with that

A power supply that can handle the new GPU if necessary. [...probably necessary]

I already know I will need to update some parts (for the mods that will come, and because I want virtualization):

CPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80637i73770k
Motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz77xud5hwb
Memory: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbrlhttp://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbrl
Video Card: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-ax79703gbd52dhv3
Case: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-rc942kkn1
Power Supply: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm
Operating System: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-glc00182
Monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-pb278q

*x4 - so 32 GB of total RAM - yes I know overkill, but lest I'm ready for a while. Also note that every part is at stock speed.

I am interested to see how the game performs in 4k, I brought it up in the last thread but I thought id bring it up again in case anyone else is in the 4k gaming boat with me.

I just built a new system specifically for playing fallout 4 in 4k its my sig.

So who else is going to try 4k?

@ Jefredo

I did some digging and obviously the devs on Bethesda having done some serious error. (but there is a huge BUT !!!)

There is indeed a huge different between those two CPUs and two GPUs on the minimum requirements. !!!

----------

The correct results would be:

Minimum requirements:

Intel CPU: Core i5-760 2.8GHz (the perfect much would be the Core 2 Duo Q 9650, but i can understand why they have excluded it, as it's an LGA775 socket, and it's obsolete right now !!!)

Also there is problem with that particular i5-760 CPU. It's a LGA1156 socket, very uncommon choice for an developer to choose that CPU as a game requirement.

So, the most closely (theoretically) CPU is indeed the Intel i5-2300 !!!

As for the GPUs: The correct answer would be the Nvidia GTX 660.

-------

Also on the recommended requirements:

AMD GPU: Radeon R9 290X

There is no need for the X version as the Radeon R9 290 is allready on most games faster than the GTX 780.

However, the devs have allready measured the performance on either of those two GPUs, and obviously the R9 290X is the correct GPU to go.

At the end, that's means to me that Nvidia GPUs scaling better as equivalent Radeon GPUs on that particular game, therefore the huge differences between Nvidia and AtI GPUs on the req. page. !!!

Also to notice:

Fallout 4 uses a revamped Creation Engine

Not a single one game listed on AnandTech's benchmark page has anything in common with a game that uses the Creation Engine. !!!

That shouldn't be excluded on the final verdict !!! :thanks:

Your system should be good enough for 4K on that particular game...

but, if it works like "The Witcher 3", don't expect frame-rates near 60. !!!

I guess, yes it will be playable. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?s=377abe3f0f098752b9d83ca866488ba7&&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

Posting my specs:

Processor: i7 930 @ 2.80GHz (8CPUs)

RAM: 6GB

Memory Card: AMD 5870 1GB

Monitor: 1980x1080.

Two questions if I may:

a ) Is my processor strong enough?

b ) for a price range of 150-200 euro, what graphics card would you recommend?

It depends how high you wanna go, with the resolution and graphical settings.

If we assume that the rec req. settings are for 1080p (high) or (maybe?) ultra, you need a faster GPU.

Judging from this (according to raw power only): http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1032?vs=1056%C2%A0

2) There is only one card that i can thing off. (in that price range, and maybe a bit above)

Spoiler

Ati Radeon R9 380

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202149&cm_re=SAPPHIRE_NITRO_Radeon_R9_380-_-14-202-149-_-Product

------------

Also you have a triple channel configuration. It would be nice if you upgrade your ram !!! (more ram would be a nice addition)

So you need 3x4GB of ram (as there must be three identical memory modules).

Nope on the CPU. Even if you upgrade your GPU you aren't going anywhere.

Thank you very much! I cry everyday I wait for it, im having it built over at digitalstorm.

Also im pretty sure the when the high res texture packs are released that those frames are going to go down even more.

Weak spot is the GPU but you should be ok for mid/high settings until you are able to upgrade.

Even then, i would change the GPU, and not the processor. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?s=377abe3f0f098752b9d83ca866488ba7&&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

Your GPU is much more behind as your processor if you wanna go near the rec req.

Normally (and well, i don't know what other beastly games the devs have in mind, for the next years to come), you should be fine for the next three years for sure... :icecream:

Of course we talking about only for resolutions 1080p and above. (with your RIG anyway)

Have fun...
