Unofficial "Will My PC run Fallout 4?" Thread #4

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 9:16 pm

I'd be shocked if you couldn't run it on 'high' settings with maybe a few sliders in the 'Ultra' territory. You have the recommended RAM; the CPU is oldish but it's got four cores humming along at a nice speed, and your graphics card is top notch. Really, we have to wait and play the game before we can know how much of a bottleneck the CPU recommendations really represent. I have a i7-3770K and just have a really hard time believing it's going to hold me back, but we'll see.

Yeah, as Tigs said, its not even close. To expand on his explanation. You at the very least need a graphics card. Intel graphics will not cut it. CPU wise, again your far below the minimum specs.

See http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-2300-vs-Intel-Celeron-N2840

It will show the minimum recommended cpu compared to the one your using.

I'm pretty certain my rig can handle FO 4. I bought it a year ago as an upgrade, but had Dragon Age Inquisition in mind... never thinking that I would see Fallout 4 so soon! woohooo

  • AMD A10-7850K Processor 3.7 GHz( cache)
  • 12 GB DDR3 RAM
  • 2T 7200 rpm Hard Drive, 8 GB Solid State Drive
  • AMD ATI Radeon R9 260 2GB
  • Win 10

That is good to hear. I have much the same components (just not overclocked). Hopefully I won't have to turn off too many things to maintain a decent framerate.

That sounds like a good way to go, but how are you cooling the CPU when overclocking? The i7 @ 3.5GHz and the EVGA GPU (w ACX Cooler?) meets the recommended, you should certainly be able to use some "Ultra" settings.

Interestingly, the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4Gb Superclocked specs:

  • Base Clock: 1111 MHZ
  • Boost Clock: 1163 MHz
  • Memory Clock: 7010 MHz Effective
  • CUDA Cores: 1536
  • Bus Type: PCI-E 3.0
  • Memory Detail: 4096MB GDDR5
  • Memory Bit Width: 256 Bit
  • Memory Speed: 0.28ns
  • Memory Bandwidth: 224.32 GB/s

...are really close to the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC:

  • Base Clock: 1165 MHZ
  • Boost Clock: 1317 MHz
  • Memory Clock: 7010 MHz Effective
  • CUDA Cores: 1664
  • Bus Type: PCI-E 3.0
  • Memory Detail: 4096MB GDDR5
  • Memory Bit Width: 256 Bit
  • Memory Speed: 0.28ns
  • Memory Bandwidth: 224.3 GB/s

I put my third rig together earlier this year, but not for FO4, that is just a happy coincidence.

CPU: Intel core i7 4790K @4.0GHz Quad core(8 MB L3 cache), NZXT Kraken X41 Liquid CPU Cooler 140MM.
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK (rev. 1.1) has a M.2 connector for the SSD
RAM: 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X DDR3/1600Mhz
Hard drives: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD, SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 500GB SATA III SSD, 2TB WD, 2TB WD Elements USB 3.0 external drive.
Operating system: Windows 7 Professional(64bit) SP1
Graphics: EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB SC
Power: Thermaltake DPS 750W Digital 80 PLUS GOLD Modular

Oh, and it is really good to see another Upstate NY resident.

That should be managable with your settings.

Firstly you need a dedicated GPU. (not necessarily the fastest around: A R9 380 or a GTX 960 should be fine)

Secondly you need a decent CPU. (Let's say a i3-4330 or FX-6350)

For a mid end system, you should be able to play that game on lower resolutions just fine.

However, Celerons are the worst and most unsuitable CPUs for gaming...period.

Superclocked or not the fps differences are not worth the trouble.

770 vs 770SC

Hovever a stock 770 vs a stock 970 - the differences are still measurable !!!

@ Mark41

I didn't understand what you meant by your last response to me in regards to using a dedicated PhysX Card.

I'm under the impression that although Gamebyro can use PhysX that Beth didn't use it and will likely use Havok.

I can wait till release to figure out if the old card will be useful for the game as a dedicated handler for something or other.

Have a EVGA 970 SSC as the primary and its nice to see that it was a good choice for gaming.

Your PC can handle it...just wouldnt expect more than medium settings due to R9 260.

i bet I'll run it in low-medium with 4gb ram, HD5770 and i5 3330.

I played Battlefront 3 Beta in medium with 30-50FPS and the requirements are so high! I think it's all marketing.

Assuming that dualcore, 4 threaded cpus play nice with the game, low settings is a fair assessment

We will know that for sure, if the game comes out.

Yes the GTX 970 is the most popular High-End Gaming GPU as Nvidia concerns. Nice power for a "reasonable" price. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?s=9875f14e18d0936376294d4c5c4eb9b4&&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

Yes, the DICE Battlefront. I think the resolution is the exact reason for that, maybe the specs were made thinking of 4k or 1080p. I played in 1366x768, the max of my monitor.

I'm a little worried about my CPU, I have an Xbox One, but (of course) would much rather get it on my PC. Honestly if I could get medium settings I would be happy at 1920x1080. What do you guys think?

CPU: Intel 2 Quad Core Q8300 (2.5ghz)

GPU: R9 270x 4gb

RAM: 8GB

Seems feasible for medium. Exactly what quadcore is the CPU? Q8300 or Q9300? Kind of matches the Phenom x4 945 min

Did you adjust the resolution scale down as well? This is a fantastic feature that makes it possible to run newer games relatively smoothly on weak hardware.

In SW:BF, you could go all the way from 1% to 200%. Granted, it looked like an 8-bit Nintendo game at 1%, but I hope FO4 includes this feature. Great way to make games playable on older PCs, without messing up the UI.

Yea a little under the min, but should run the game regardless. I do have concerns of that chip bottlenecking the 270X a bit though....but may be ok at medium.

I left it in 100%, but it for sure is great to get high FPS.

@Mark41 and @Tigs

Thx for the answers.
I just tried overclocking for the first time and got my FX6300 to work fine with 4,0Ghz hope that helps get it to Ultra or at least high on 1080p.

Hmm, i am very interested to know how well that GPU will run with that processor.

There is a big difference between the Q8300 (4-core) and an i5 (4core) even at the same speed.

Hopefully your CPU doesn't bottleneck your GPU.

You have got it 4.0GHz. So most probably Turbo frequency is disabled. So, that means all cores are running at 4.0GHz.

The nearest to that without Turbo boost is the FX8350.

The R9 290 will get you exact at the rec. req. mark. So if the req. req are 1080p and high or ultra then your GPU is fine.

For the CPU game debate says: (12-16% lower than the rec. req. That's for an FX8350)

So, why the devs decided to choose the FX-9590 as a rec. CPU that's a mystery. (the FX-9590 is the fastest FX processor that AMD has to offer. 4.7GHz/5.0GHz)

Even so, 1080p sounds reasonable, for ultra - i don't know. !!!

Wanting to see what your best guess is for this setup. Thanks!

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.6GHz (can probaly go up to 4GHz, just havent needed to)

Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H mobo

8.00GB Corsair Dual-Channel DDR3 1600MHz

EVGA Nvidia GTX 970 FTW 4GB

I play at a max of 1920x1080
