I know you said you can't, but 4GB of ram is super cheap, these days.
Hey there, welcome to the forums! Your video card has 1 GB of vram. That's pretty low, so you might be stuck on low or very low if you can play at all, but who knows? The graphics are just beyond Skyrim but one of the things that makes the game so much more demanding is the volumetric lighting which I am pretty certain should have a way to be turned off or tweaked. I'm sorry that there's so much uncertainty there, but it's hard to know. But I'd imagine if the launcher will have all the graphical settings available before you launch the game, you'll have many options to try to tweak to see if you can play the game, but I don't want you to have a false sense of hope and not be able to play. But even if your pc can't handle the game, mods and tweak guides are bound to come out to make it so you can I feel.
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I figure it may be worth the try. I was going to buy the physical copy so if it went south I could return it. I have never returned a game before but I think you can? I don't know if you can if you download it off steam. Like I said I have my PS4 and I'm sure I can grow used to playing it on a console but I just like using a PC more. It's comfortable. I don't use mods or anything like that. It's just to me, Fallout is a game that seems better suited for a keyboard and mouse.
I don't really believe Bethesda spent a lot of time coming up with a list of "minimum" requirements.
They seem to have looked around, seen what the average gaming rig has today, and called that "minimum".
Only hard minimum I see is that it has to be a 64 bit version of Windows 10, with a "decent" graphics card.
Memory is awfully cheap now - see if your motherboard will take at least another 4 GB. I really think 8 GB is kind of minimum.
And try Fallout 4. If it does not work - you have incentive to (slowly) upgrade.
Note: 4 GB of DDR3 memory is about $20 on Amazon. If you can afford Fallout 4 - you can afford that.
Ditch the PC and get a console. Then you get to enjoy every major title for the next decade without even thinking about specs.
I just googled it Cynicaleye and they infact do. So that eases my mind somewhat. I know memory is cheap but like I said I don't have a lot of time for gaming. I think I'm gonna end up being that "average bro" that has the console and thats about it. Not slamming the "master race" but the one thing I love about consoles, that Lightweight Nate eluded to, is that you don't have to worry about not having the specs for something. it's built around that.
I'm sure with my luck I'll be able to run it fine and then my power supply will go boom.
If you think any console is good for the next ten years, you will be sorely disappointed.
Consoles are not upgradeable, and the productive life of any computer based tech is about three years before something better comes along (PS 5?).
We are up to DX 12 now - in ten years it will likely be DX 22.
Except I had my Xbox 360 from 2006 to late 2014. That's the better part of a decade. Not once in that entire time did I ever have to spend additional money to make upgrades and bring it up to specs for a new game. I've seen high end gaming rigs in action, and it really just doesn't seem worth the effort. Within the next twenty years, regular old gaming consoles will have reached the point where there's almost no reason to improve them further. We already have displays that have a higher resolution than the human eye is capable of distinguishing.
Case in point: Your old XBox 360 - will not - run Fallout 4. Technology has moved on.
But it did run Mass Effect 3 just as well as it ran Mass Effect.
I made no comment about whether a PC or Console was better for Fallout 4. Either will be fine.
I only took issue with the statement that a console would be good for ten years. It won't.
Like I said, I was hoping the PC just because of the controls and such are "better" in a game like Fallout. I'm not big into mods and graphics and all that jazz aren't a deal breaker for a game. I'm guessing I'll just have to settle for the console version. I was just very optimistic since I could handle Skyrim and FO3 very well. Even games like Far Cry 3 and Metro Last Light I was able to run fully balls to the wall.
E: The only game that gave me issues was Dying Light. Got the demo a few weeks back via Steam and it was the first game that I had trouble running.
You said you were money tight. Do you already have an XBox One or PS 4? In that case it is a no brainer. Go with the console.
Otherwise you are looking at $400 for the console, compared to $20 for more memory.
Your choice. In my case, I bought an XBox One controller to go with my PC. Still can't aim with it.
I have both a PS4 and a PC currently. Like I said I've been able to handle a lot of a games and looking at Fallout 4 is doesnt seem that daunting / demanding for my PC to run compared to other game it has handled fine. I know there are some changes and I probably cannot max it out but even as you noted use a gaming controller has proven to be a pain in the ass. That is my only reservation about the console.
The PS 4 controller will work great for Fallout 4, but get really comfortable using VATS.. That is about the only way I can hit anything.
I am concerned about how many action points I will have available for VATS.
I never use VATS in Fallout. So that's a no go.
As I said in another thread, I would really like to see a comparison of a particular scene at minimum specs and recommended specs to see how Fallout 4 looks at its worst. Of course, this could be accomplished by using the low, medium, and high settings since low would be what minimum specs work at and high would be what recommended specs work at.
Well don't take my word for it - get some input from a real PS 4 player playing Fallout 3 or Fallout NV.
I never claimed to be proficient with this controller - although I am trying. If I get in a bind, it is nice to be able to switch back to the mouse and KB for a given battle.
Switching controls is really easy on the fly. Bethesda handles it well.
I seriously suspect low settings on a really good video card will look far better than low settings on a really minimal card. May not even run on the minimal one.
So guys, I wasn't really paying attention and noticed that Fallout 4 comes out in 6 days. Cool. But then I see that my computer doesn't hit the min specs, which bums me out, but this thread kinda gave me hope. It's just weird to me that I can run Skyrim with HD texture mods at ultra but I don't have the min specs for Fallout 4? Anyways. I have this:
OS: WINDOWS 7 64 BIT
GPU: HD RADEON 6970 2gb VRAM
PROCESSOR: AMD PHENOM II X4 965 3.40 GHz
POWER SUPPLY: CORSAIR 650W
MOTHERBOARD: AMD ASUSTEK M4A88 -V EVO/USB3
RAM; 16 GIGS
I hoped to get high-ultra with that card anyway, the 760 was sold, so I bought a MSI R7970 3GB DDR5 Twin Frozer III OC BE.... now we keep waiting for the game.
Bottleneck now is my CPU (Phenom II X6 1055T)...
