Unofficial "Will My PC run Fallout 4?" Thread #6

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:17 am

Lets get back on topic folks. It's fine to suggest someone to get the game for console if the PC is not up to snuff and there's no other choice, but please leave the PC vs console discussions and ramblings out.

The Radeon 5870 can probably get the lower end of medium settings. Better if resolution is lowered from 1080p. The PS4 would certainly look better graphically.

I've been rather verbal on how I'm not a fan on the minimum specs and how they presented it...it's even mentioned in my guide in the OP. Lots of confusion as there are performance gaps just within the min hardware specs alone. I would not be surprised if the game ends up running fine on lower hardware. Been trying to get answers from devs about their settings when the game was tested, but to no avail. In any case, my guide will update accordingly when the benchmarks start pouring in.

Your PC actually does meet min. I'm treating the GTX 550Ti as the min here and your 6970 is considerably better than that card.

I'd expect at least medium settings with that system

Not a bad alternative...it's actually slightly faster than the GTX 760.

Back before the PC specs were released, I dropped a Preorder on the XB1 and PC so that I could pay off the version that I could actually play. The release of the PC specs told me that my Graphics card is just below the minimum requirements for the game, so while I've been assured that I would be able to play the game on PC, I'd pretty much resigned myself to getting the XB1 version for a decent look and performance. However, I just realized that the Graphics card I'm using is literally just below the minimum; it's an AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB, and the minimum is an AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB. I'm wondering how much performance drop I'd actually see, given that I'm so close to the minimum specs. Would I be able to have things like grass, shadows, decent draw distance, etc. (Or whatever settings would have to drop; no idea how that actually works), and have a game that looks decent and plays smoothly without constant crashes, or does that missing 20 mean that I should pick up the XB1 version for a decent-looking, smooth game?

The only one I'm concerned about is my processor. My processor is a Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition. And my graphics card is a EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti SC 2GB GDDR5 that or I think it's a OC not an SC.

I really want to play this game, and I haven't had problems playing other games so far... But It seems my graphic card may have trouble with these specs. Can someone tell me if I will be able to play, even if it's with all on minimum?

I have a laptop with:

Intel core i7-3630QM with 2.4 GHz, up to 3.2 GHz with turbo boost

8 GB RAM

Nvidia Geforce CT 650M

I can't consider to get an upgrade on the pc, and I don't have neither ps4 or xbox1, so this game running on my pc is my only hope for playing it :cold: :cold:

I hope someone can help, thanks!!

Guys, i need some help. I think i'm going to manage but i want to have a plan b in case things go bad.

My GTS 450 video card is below min reqs and i am confident it will work because of my 1440x900 resolution. Though if it runs poorly, what cheap alternative will i have that runs F4 decently? I saw a Radeon R7 240 with a good price, would that work? Any ideas?

Ok, upgraded my PSU and GPU - this is what I have now:

Intel Core i7 4790K (4.0 GHz)
16 GB DDR3
2 TB HDD (not that it matters)
R9 290 4GB (not the 290x though)
835w Thunder v2 PSU
I think that should get me to a mix of high/ultrahigh -hopefully.

Where is the post of the person who said they got 30-40FPS on Phantom Pain with a NVIDIA 710 ON MEDIUM?

I think most people will be fine if Bethesda didn't do a Warner Brother's level of bad optimization.

You should still be fine for medium settings with a radeon 7850. Its still significantly better than the gtx 550 ti listed in the min req.

Id be concerned with that processor. Its a straight up dual core chip with 2 threads and part of the lower end Pentium series. Although theres no word on how well the game runs on plain dualcore cpus, you have to be prepared to think that it may very well struggle. Since its a Haswell cpu, id check if your motherboard can take higher end cpus...preferably Core i5 quadcore lga 1150 chips at least.

The 650m is like a desktop radeon 6670. That puts you below low settings in my list if running 1080p. You may edge back into low if your resolution is lower, which i suspect it is since it appears you have a laptop. Depending on your tolerance, it may be acceptable to you.

Dont bother with a Radeon 240...its still rather weak and actually worse than your card now. A second hand GTX 760 can be had in the low $100 price range. A GTX 950 can be had for less than $150:

Lookin good

Comparing this game to too many others may be pointless... different games different engines. I sometimes use the Witcher 3 as a close baseline, but thats only because the requirements are almost similar. At least the Witchers min reqs make more sense with the hardware listed

Following on from your advice that my setup should run fo4 ok, I downloaded 3dMark 11 from futuresoft, and ran the performance suite of benchmarks.
Then I compared my benchmarks to those gathered from (I5-2300 x hd-7870) computers. The highest of which was P7801. Sure enough I was above that. Both in graphics and physics.
I'm just wondering if that would be a handy tool, just to give people a ballpark idea if they are somewhere near the recommended minimum ?

Thanks you for your fast answer. If I can run it with lower resolution, I'll rather do that than not playing it at all. Thanks for the info!!

I have a 6300 and a 970. I'm sure I can play it, but my cpu is just above min, while my gpu is above max. It should an interesting; albeit, wonky experience :brokencomputer:

Only time will tell, but I'm betting I'll have everything max, except draw distance, foliage, and maybe shadows (depending on if they're handled by the CPU or not)

While 3dmark is a useful benchmark for point of reference type comparisons with other hardware, it cant exactly be tied in with the game and it doesnt explain what type of sertings can be achieved with the game. Just because someone has lower results than yours doesnt mean the game cant be ran...its all specualtion still on what can be achieved with hardware below the stated reqs.

I assume you mean the AMD FX-6300...

I think youd still be fine with ultra settings...the cpu isnt that great and may hold back the gtx 970 a bit, but you still should get pretty good settings imo. May want to consider overclocking the FX-6300 if you find it does bottleneck.

Okay, so wondering if my laptop will run FO4. Specs to follow:

Windows 8.1

Processor: Intel Core i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz 2.40GHz QuadCore

RAM: 16.0 GB

System: 64-bit, x64-based processor

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M

Thoughts on if it will run at all, and if so, what settings I may expect to use with decent performance? Mainly worried about that processor speed.

So my computer meets all the recommended minimum requirements except for the graphics card, which is a AMD Radeon HD 6570. I'd love to get a newer computer but, unfortunately, the new dishwasher comes first. Should I have a problem running Fallout 4 with this graphics card?

The 860m is like a 750 ti desktop card. The 4210m cpu is actually a dualcore chip, but has 4 threads. Kind of a quad pretender but not as good. Unknown how the game plays with dualcore chips and hopefully the 4 threads help. IMO, it will likely still run and with the 860m card you may see medium settings.

The 6570 is definitely on the super low side of things. If you lower resolution it may be barely playable, but i highly suggest upgrading that.

It looks like I've finally seen the day where I might have to upgrade. But why are the requirements so derpy? The 550 ti is nowhere near the same as the 7870! Are AMD users getting the shaft? Or was this just a derp? I wanna be able to run this at least medium settings until I can upgrade my GPU.

My specs:

CPU: Intel i5 3570k 3.50 GHz

RAM: 8 GB

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850 1 GB

I've been planning to get a GTX 970 or 980, but I'm still trying to save up the money.

I'm debating whether to get Fallout 4 on Xbox one or my PC to start. I'm going to upgrade to a better pc soon, but I'll be damned if I miss release.

My specs are:

i5-4570 @ 3.2GHz

Radeon 7870 2gb

8gb RAM

Think I'd have a better experience on that, or should I just go with my Xbox?

I think youd get at least medium with your setup as is, but the 1GB VRAM may require lowering your resolution. GTX 970 or 980 would obviously be a significant upgrade to be in the Ultra settings.

Get it for PC I'd say. Video card is slightly better than what the XB1 comes with and the CPU is plenty sufficient.

If the statement that I should be able to play on medium settings was an answer to my question, I don't know enough to recognize it. That's nothing against you; I'm just completely new to PC gaming, and don't understand the specs or nuances of systems. Probably the easiest way to answer my concerns is to answer this one question: which is better, my system, or the XB1? Stats of my system are as follows:

Core: Intel i5 3750k 3.4ghz quad core
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
RAM: 8GB G. Skill Sniper
OS: Windows 7 Professional Edition 64 Bit

Basically, I want to buy the game for PC, but if the specs for the XB1 are significantly better than the specs for my system, then I'll buy it for the XB1 for now, then buy it again for PC when I upgrade my Graphics Card. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to draw a comparison between the two to figure this out for myself, so I'm hoping someone here can help. Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry for being a bother.
