Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion

Also, I'd like to know what a good PC gaming controller I should get would be. I was thinking about one of the Logitech pc controllers.
What kind of controller do you guys have for your pc's?

I myself have a Logitech controller, I love it.

I have an asus g53 jw-a1 and from what i have been told by some people it will not be able to max out skyrim. I know that laptops at times are hard to upgrade, but does anyone have the knowledge of what i could upgrade to max it( i understand system requirements are not out yet but just looking for opinion).

If you asking for an upgrade, you can't upgrade laptop GPU's in 99.9% of laptops. What card to you have now and what resolution do you play at, I'm guessing the 460M GTX?

So...my new PC JUST came in the mail and this is my 3rd post I've made with it :D yay!

So I was looking at system settings and specs and my PC has Direct X11, which is pretty good.

But it made me wonder if Skyrim will be Direct X11 compatible? Or if not, maybe a mod that will?

I currently have:
Phenom II X6 1100T cpu
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16gb ram
Asus crosshair V formula mobo
Cosair force gt 120gb ssd
Antec high current pro 1200w psu
Antec 960 push pull cpu cooler
Antec DF-85 case

I realise some of this is overkill but for three 25" monitors @ 1920x1080 which = 5760x1080 in tri setup what would be the best gpu configuration. I have done research and i am looking at crossfiring two 6950's and possibly adding a third down the road. do you think this would be sufficient?

would be better just to get 2 GTX 570s or 2 6970s over 2 then eventually 3 6950s

a 6970 is not that much better than a 6950 just a few minor upgrades. I've looked into a gtx 580 and price to performance was not that impressive unless I am missing somethign the gtx 580 has.

What i currently have is a Phenom II X2 550 BE @3.1Ghz ( Which is unlocked to a Phenom II X4 Running @3.1Ghz (Quad Core) 8 GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, and a old Sapphire Radeon X1800XT ( Which i am upgrading to a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit, When it's back in stock on newegg. Yay) I've seen the requirements for the game, And i'm wondering if i should grab a Hexa-Core CPU, Can get one running @3.2Ghz for under $200, Which isn't bad imo. Just going to see how the game plays with my current CPU, Hoping it won't get to hot, Since i am still using the Heatsink and Fan that came with the Phenom II X2 550, ( It's a Quad core now, Not a Dual core. stick with what you have now. I'd have to find the benches, but the Quad Core out performs the Hex Core at most games. few games take advantage of multiple cores like that. BFBC2 is one I know off the top of my head, it will take everything you can throw at it.

Just to let you know thoughs are the predicted system requirements, the official have not been released yet. Also once you get your 6950 you should be set, I doubt your processor would hold you back at all.

EDIT: Scubasteve Ninja'd me

That it's not. For the price, I'd go with two 570s. its just two 6970s will be cheaper than 3 6950s is all. and I'm really not too keen on 3-4 gpus myself. rather pointless. the 6950, 570, and 6970 all overclock very very well. I'd avoid the 580, especially 2 of them. simply not worth the money. ( and either is the 6970 really)

It will easily run skyrim over 60 FPS on 1080P or lower .

Yeah, it's sarcasm. I just worked my behind off to build this svcker.

I actually just ordered a 27 inch planar, I'm not really into the multiple screen setup.

ah i understand. i really want to do a triple monitor setup because ive never had one before. I am trying to see how much fps gets killed with the two extra monitors so i know what level of gpu to get.

Yeah, I would recommend you start reading reviews. I was going to go with the gtx580 and then decided I wanted the hd6990, but they didn't have any. Most of the trials I have read the good Nvidias seemed to work better with dx9 and the Radeons did better with dx11 games. I know the Radeons are notorious for being louder bigger and bulkier, but they seem to have a reputation of being more reliable as well so that won out for me in the end. (Some people's Nvidias have caught on fire). With that said most 3 monitor setups I've seen have been triple gtx580's and although I forked out some money for my computer, that's a little to rich for my blood, because you have to buy the monitors as well.

yeah its so confusing. i think a gtx 590 would be better than three 580's. what will probably end up happening is I will get two 6950 2gb vram and from there possible add a third down the road since gtx 590 and 6990 are in the $800 range.

I spent a heck of a lot of time reading reviews and from what I saw the best bang for your buck is two 2gb hd6950's crossfired. That's why I went with the setup.

Actually here's a good place to start.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-580-3-way-sli-review/17 The reviewer basically says the setup is ridiculous. haha

http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6950-crossfirex-review/ Got a pretty darn good review.

Btw I always get my stuff on amazon (cheapest) and the dirt edition had the dual fan setup I wanted, you get a free game (for what its worth) and I got a rebate. Just something to think about.

Alright so I took your guys advice in the last thread.
Here's the adjustments I made;

CPU: Intel? Core? i5-2500K 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155 (All Venom OC Certified)
HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Hard Drive)
MEMORY: 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1333MHz Dual Channel Memory [+0] (Corsair or Major Brand)
MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard LucidLogix Virtu and Intel Smart Response Technology & 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, 2x SATA-III RAID,2 3 PCIe Gen2, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 3CI (All Venom OC Certified) [+0]
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 16X PCIe Video Card [+155] (Major Brand Powered by AMD)

Anyone else have any more input or advice?

Everything in total comes out to about $1,011 (The PC its self $900 + Windows 7 = $100. Also keep in mind that I got the expensive 240MM Fans)

It looks alright for a prebuilt. After reading the note about Win 7, the price makes more sense. You should indicate what power supply you selected though. Some of their selections are trash, especially their cheap so-called "Recommended Ones", which are usually generic case PSUs. If I recall, they have Corsair units....should definitely pick the cheapest one of those. Don't skimp on this...it's the most important component in the entire PC. Can make and break it.

I've heard mixed reviews about Cyberpower and Ibuypower though.

I generally build all of my systems and build for others, but I've bought machines from both in the past during their too hard to pass up deals around holidays and my nephews still are running the machines for their older games. They're both alright places to get a prebuilt if you really need one, but I feel CyberPowerPC is the better of the two.

ah yes the 6950 article has me comfortably deciding on crossfired 6950's with a third added in the future.

Are you willing to order the parts online and then assemble your computer or do you want a pre-built, you haven't really given us much information of even a budget? Also this thread will probably be moved to community discussion or the PC topic for Skyrim.

You definitely should buy an iMac. They are the best. Don't let others try to lie to you about how gud they are, they'd just be jealous.
