"there never has, and never will be a card that will last you 8-10 years. You should look at the cards that were "Ubber beastly" 8-10 years ago. You'd laugh at how pathetic they are in comparison to what there is out today. Your much better off building good computers, and then upgrading every 2 1/2 -3 years or so. Stick with the 6950. Again, its more than capable for maxing stuff at 1080p. take the money you would have spent on a second one. and keep it safe. then in a few years. get a crazy 8950/9950 or whatever they will have out then."

Ok I brought this back up to ask you, do you mean it wont last because it will break after that period of time or are you saying it will just be outdated. Because to be honest I'm paying all of my expenses off no later than next year.

It will be outdated in that time. Why buy a $800 card that will last you 4 years, when you could buy a $300 card that will last you 3 years and then buy another $300 card that will last you another 3 years. $600 for 6 years > $800 for 4 years, will save you money and you'll be able to update to newer technology. Computer technology updates so quickly almost every 3-6 months.

I have a relatively old computer (2 years), and am upgrading the machine specifically so that I will be able to play Skyrim (been waiting for this moment for years!). Medium graphics is a must, but high would be preferable. Do you guys think I could swing that without buying a graphics card more than $160 ish?

8 GB DDR3 Memory
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 running at 2.66 GHz
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=41125&CatId=3585 - this is the video card I am considering getting for Skyrim.

Also, if I can't run it on high settings do you guys think the limiting factor would be the graphics card or the processor? If its the processor I might just go ahead and build a new machine.

ah yes the 6950 article has me comfortably deciding on crossfired 6950's with a third added in the future.

Ok... apparently you cant crossfire three 6950's but you can crossfire three 6970's..... I may just go wiht one gtx 580 and one monitor and then a few months add the other two monitors and sli two gtx 580's.

Sorry. Just cannot agree. The 360 has the equivalent of a Radeon X1950 Pro, and the HD 3100 chipset chip is barely in the same class as an HD 2400. Everything would have to be low and that includes the screen resolution.

POWERSUPPLY: 700 Watts - XtremeGear SLI/CrossFireX Ready Power Supply

Trash. Get the Corsair 650W. It's plenty for your system.

Here's my shopping cart for Cyberpower;

Any suggestions to what I should change?

CPU: Intel? Core? i5-2500K 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155 (All Venom OC Certified)

MOTHERBOARD: Asus P8H61-M Intel H61 Chipset DDR3 mATX Mainboard w/ UEFI, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB 2.0, SATA-II, 1 Gen2 PCIe, 2 PCIe X1 & 1 PCI [B3 Stepping] [-15]

POWERSUPPLY: 700 Watts - XtremeGear SLI/CrossFireX Ready Power Supply [+14]

VIDEO: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 16X PCIe Video Card [+221] (Major Brand Powered by AMD)

Motherboard: You don't get a 2500K, a great overclocking chip, and pair it up with a H61 chipset board, a board that doesn't allow overclocking. P67 or Z68 chipset boards only.

PSU: Again. Change it to the Corsair. Do not skimp on this. Most important component in the entire PC.

You'd be lucky to get low settings with that.

...are you REALLY going to spend 370 bucks in a case? ........

It doesn't even have a power supply included!

My first impression of that case was "wow they just copied a DF-85 as much as they could get away with."

Maybe. But still, unless you're an enthusiast and you can afford it, there's really no justification on buying THAT.

And if you are both....hey, why not? I'm nobody to frown upon that decision (having in mind I'm planning a 6000 bucks PC...).

- EVGA Classified SR-3(?) motherboard (Dual Socket LGA2011).
- 16+ GB's of RAM. Most probably in 2 or more 8 Gbs modules from Crucial.
- CPU Sandy Bridge-E (6 cores, with a second one coming later, maybe even an Ivy Bridge-E).
- 2 GPU Nvidia Kepler in SLI.
- SSD RevoDrive 3 x2 240 Gbs.
- Thermaltake case, probably.
- Watercooling.
- A nice power supply (EVGA's specialized one for the SR-3, probably), plus a nice UPS.
- 30' Monitor HP ZR30w @ 2560x1600

Those are the temporary specs, more or less. I improve them as often as I see new interesting tech coming. I'm building it 1Q 2012 :)

I doubt it :) I expect it to run at least over 5 years or more. It's dual-CPU, remember, and Ivy Bridge-compliant (technically). So the CPU part is covered. It will probably have 8 memory slots, so it'll be probably up to 64 gb's of RAM.

The only part I'll maybe have to change in 3 years are the two GPUs. And I don't know if any game will push THAT hard on them as to change.

How does two cpu's even work on the saem motherboard? it looks like two computers on one mobo. are they able to function as one?

Will this GPU run Skyrim on ultra or max at 1080p? I have an Nvidia Geforce GTX 460m, which is able to run a lot of modern games on ultra settings or max settings. My CPU is an Intel I7 2630QM @2,8ghz so that's not the problem.

Yes. As far as I've seen, Windows (7 Pro/Ultimate) recognizes them and use it's cores and threads as if they were a single CPU. Pretty much what happens with servers. I still have to investigate it a bit, though (after all, those are preliminary specs, not the final ones). But if I'm right, it'll be like having an unique, 12-core CPU.

Would a Nivdia GTX 550 Ti max skyrim?
Also Gtx 550 Ti vs Radeon 6770
Which would you prefer?
I want one that maxes Skyrim.

Both will max Skyrim. And I don't prefer neither (I'd recommend a 560 Ti, partly because it's my current card, hehe).
