Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion

Hehehe Nice advice :P well i am a really patient man so i think I can wait longer. I wont build the computer just for skyrim but i really do want to enjoy the game on max settings which I think i wont with my current computer:
Intel core 2 duo 2,13ghz
4gb ddr2 ram
Nvidia gts 250 1gb
Ace raw deal 620w (cheap psu from the store i bought it, they tricked me :( I did not so much about computers as i do now but still i cant build one yet :P)

To be honest i am in a situation where i dont know what to do. should i buy a new computer or should i wait for amd bulldozer/intel ivy bridge + ati hd 7xxx series/Nvidia gtx 6xx series

Honestly dude, do what i wanted to do, lost patience, and didnt (as said i'm not very patient). Wait till November, then buy. Actually, lets rewind here...

You say you want your computer to last 5+ years, which is quite a long time. You could do that buy only by spending a LOT of money, which in the end will be kinda lame after only 2 years. My very honest recommendation is this:

Invest in a good Moboard, which can support next gen processors (gana have to ask one of the people in the loop about this).

Invest in a good case (like the ones you already mentioned)

Invest in a good power supply (imo the most important part of a computer. If it dies, it can take out the rest of your system)

After that, just get some "good" hardware, not bleeding edge. Wait for the details on skyrim to release, and go a couple steps above that.

Then, as the years come, because you already have a good foundation in your motherboard, power supply, and case, you can upgrade as you go.

You could easily dump like 3+ grand in a super system, which will be mediocre in just a year or two... Or you can buy a good system for like 700$, and spend about 200-500$ a year in upkeep. If you get tech savvy between then you can even squeeze more life out when you learn to overclock. This is the way i would go. Most(keyword) games are very efficient now, since theyre based on consoles, which will always be sub standard to your build. You'll just be concerned with maxing your visually enhanced PC version.

Give that a thought.

if you want you can build a computer that can max skyrim at an acessible price, but if you are able to wait it′s better for you, because when the 6xx series are released the 5xx prices will go down.

This is quite accurate.

Okay guys. I want to build a gaming pc that can run Skyrim on medium settings with a decent amount of mods of course for the cheapest price possible(under 800$). I'm not sure what's what so I was hoping somebody could list the parts for me with an estimated price. Thanks in advance!

As in max the Graphics? Of course that won't be a problem. Also thank you very much

If you can get it cheaper that would be wonderful lol

I dont think so, because he will be able to play at medium settings but at higher resolutions than 720p, a factor which matters when we talk about visual fidelity.

Err, I'm pretty sure a ATI 5670 will play at superior settings then the 360 version. Considering consoles are only playing at low-medium settings because of how far their technology is behind.

Intel i7 2720 2.20GHz turbo boost to 3.20GHZ
2GB ATI Mobility Radeon 6990
750GB HDD 7200rpm
1920x1080 lcd
16GB ddr3 1333MHz RAM
Win 7 home 64bit
:brokencomputer:

Do you really have to ask...yes you will max the game, it's a 2k laptop. It's the same specs as my laptop in my signature, even though the 2720 and the 16GB of ram is overkill...I Would have used that money for a SSD or something of that nature.

How far do you think I'll get on this?

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor, ~3.2GHz
RAM: 12GB DDR3
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6670
Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Little worried about the GPU, might end up upgrading to a Radeon HD 6850 if this one won't be up to par. I'm just looking for better performance than I'd get out of a console, so if anyone has any idea what kind of settings I'm looking at, that'd be much appreciated. Can compromise on the resolution as well if that'll cause the FPS to take too significant a hit.

The 6670 will probably get you solid medium settings, maybe even some high. The 6670 is significantly faster then the old ATI 5670. If you decide to upgrade to a 6850/6870 and your power supply can handle it you will be set for max settings.

Hope this doesn't sound like a ridiculous question, but a friend told me that the 6850 is better than the 6870. Is this true? If you know of certain aspects either card is better at, please let me know.

No, the 6870 is always faster then the 6850. Not by a lot but a good 10-15% or so.

Alright, this ones a bit over budget, but if you wait closer to release, it should come down.

Its about 100$ over but none of its garbage. You can skimp on the case, and get a lower end one for like 50$ that will do little more then hold your stuff. The Motherboard is bulldozer ready so if you wana upgrade when its released, you can. Right now it and the vga are your biggest upgrade points, but your very open to do so when you want to with this board (this is what i mean when selecting a good board).

If you have your own case, if its clean and has good fans/cooling you can skip the one i posted all together, which will immediately drop you into the price range your looking for. Hope this helps! As is, this setup will do extremely good with anything out there right now, save a few benchmark games like crysis 1/2 and metro 2033.

Let′s not forget that you can flash the bios of the 6950 and put at the exact same level of the 6970, and save a whopping 100$, but you will of course void the warranty. :hubbahubba:

Even if you don′t it still is a killer card.
