Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion #21

Post » Wed Sep 07, 2011 8:54 am

ALSO! A quick little thing I learned over the weekend:

ATI Radeon HD 4350

4=The generation

3=The performance (1-4=low 5-6=medium 7-9=high)

5=The refined performance (Thats what I read, so I would like clarification please)

0=Just a 0

And...this is Skyrim, not BF3 or Crysis. :wink:

How does that work for Nvidia cards?

nVIDIA can't make up its mind what the numbers mean. For the GTX400s, Gaming starts from the GTS 450, and anything that's just a "GT" is closer to Low End than to Medium. GTX cards start from the middle of Mainline, with the 550 GTX, and range upward from there.

Argghh..I'm so annoyed that I don't have the funds ready to build new PC. Anyhow, I was wondering if the following laptop I just purchased for my daughter would work to play 1920x1080 @ high settings:

Intel Core i5-2 410 processor 2.3 ghz with Turbo Boost
4gb DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6740M - Seymour XT 512mb (Dual)

I'm pretty sure this will run Skyrim as it plays Rift just fine. My question is, will I need to upgrade the memory on it to play the game? And what setting would I be able to play it on if I don't upgrade the memory? (I don't want to if I don't have to.)

Here's what I got:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X6 1090T Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080
Free Space: 1341.4 GB

Hmm, I have not seen any benchmarks on that graphics card yet, but it seems to be on par with the 5830. If thats true you will probably get solid medium settings at full 1080p.

You either have a 6850/6870, but it doesn't really matter because both should max the game.

@Greg49

Shoot, I realized that I typed the numbers of the graphic card wrong. It is actually 6470, but it is a dual card too..so there are two of them in there. I guess another question is do you think it would provide better quality than the Xbox version?

I don't think they make a dual 6470M. If you have the 6470M, don't expect more than low settings. Although if you do have dual cards it can't be a 6470M. :confused:

Yep, I'd say solid medium settings. Maybe even a tad higher if your native resolution is low. :)

It's not "two" cards, not really, it's the onboard chipset video chip giving a slight boost to the next-lowest of last year's desktop cards. Low settings is what low end cards offer.

That's not as good as the consoles offer.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
E4600 @ 2.40GHz (2CPUs), ~ 2.4GHz
3.00 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) 32 bit.

I hope this is all the right info. haha. I haven't upgraded anything the computer since we bought it like 5 years ago. The only thing we got for it is an external HD. Lemme know if this is the wrong info, i'm not much of a computer guy at all. haha

Now I'm really confused, Because when I do DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and go to Display, it shows Approx. Total Memory 2307MB, which is even double of what I thought, which was dual 512MB 6470 cards... okay folks, what is the best way to check what I have as a graphic card?

Okay, round 2:

Windows 7-64bit
Pentium D 830
Ram: 4gb (I can go up to 16gb if that would make a huge difference)
Graphic: 512 MB Radeon X1800 Series

But, it seems that my best bet would still be my laptop if I want to play the PC version:
Intel Core i5-2 410 processor 2.3 ghz with Turbo Boost
4gb DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6740M - Seymour XT 512mb (Dual)

But in terms of graphics, do you guys believe that Xbox 360 is still better? I use to run Oblivion at max on the Pentium D 830 and it looked slightly better than the Xbox 360 version.

haha. yeah, i'd say that's pretty important, huh?
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro
Judging from what you posted in the OP, that's a pretty bad card isn't it?
