Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion #23

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 12:31 pm

Ok here they are:
Intel Core i7 3.4GHz (8 Cores)

ATI Radeon HD 5770

8 Gigabytes of RAM

1.5TB hard drive

1920x1080 HD Monitor

if you need more, ask

Go for a stronger GPU. I'd grab a 6950 or a 6970.

I can crank OB and its smooth as a whistle. I can also max F:NV, FO3, and many other demanding titles on max. Are you sure?

No one is sure. Neither the game nor any actual system requirements have been released yet, this thread consists entirely of speculation. All I (or anyone else) can do is speak from my experiences with the cards I've owned.

I just Googled specs that are recommended for Skyrim, but they might be wrong. The link is http://www.systemrequirements.in/system-requirements-for-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim.html.

Do they seem accurate?

It also depends on your FPS tolerance. Some people need 60+ FPS to be happy, and your 5770 will not get thoughs kinds of FPS at max settings 1080p in Skyrim. It might get 25-35 FPS which is perfectly playable for a lot of people and it may be for you. If you like the FPS you are getting in FNV at max settings then their will probably be a good chance that you can play at thoughs settings in Skyrim. It's hard to predict exact settings at this point let alone FPS though.

Those literally have been around since announcement. Besides, look at the min. and max, they almost match.

If you built a PC before, you can build one again.

Build:

CASE: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/221737
CPU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/251596
MOBO: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/260771
RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264753
PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173104
GPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-sapphire-hd-6970-pci-e-21-%28x16%29-5500mhz-gddr5-gpu-880mhz-1536cores-2x-minidp-hdmi-dvi...or...http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1280mb-evga-gtx-570-hd-superclocked-40nm-3900mhz-gddr5-gpu-797mhz-shader-1594mhz-480-cores-plusfree-
SSD: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264770
HDD: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-samsung-hd103sj-spinpoint-f3-sata-3gb-s-7200rpm-32mb-cache-89ms-ncq
DVD: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/260945
OS: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/259863

That alone should be within £1000. Can do some price checks over at Amazon.co.uk as well.

If/When you plan to OC the CPU, can pick up this inexpensive but excellent cooler: http://www.ebuyer.com/245376-cooler-master-hyper-212-plus-socket-775-1156-1155-am2-1366-am3-processor-rr-b10-212p-gp

Between the GTX 460 and the Radeon 5770, the Radeon is the lesser card. You'd see at least high settings at that res, but I feel like this is the 10th time you've asked this question for your system.

Thanks! Much appreciated :D

Just so I can get a comparative... how well would you say that would run Crysis?

Thoughs are predicted system requirements that have been around forever. To me they seem ridiculously high, 8800 GT minimum...ya right. Also I'm fairly sure the ATI 5850 will max the game.

Your CPU is fine. Your PSU however....should replace that. That's more like a poor 500W unit and looks to be made by HEC....a poor brand for PSUs. Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, XFX, Antec (HCG, Eco, Earthwatt) are what to look for...500-650W more than enough for the upgrade.

Thanks, I'm thinking of getting this one
https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/700W+Mushkin+Enhanced+Joule+Modular+ATX2.3+Power+Supply+?productId=43771

Can you confirm Mushkin's reliability? I need to be sure its money well spent is all.

Thanks

Oh right... as you can see I'm very out the loop! and with regards to games like BF3? would that be good for the next couple of years or so?

thanks again,

edit:

I just went to look at the specs online and see costing and noticed this one

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-1000-gaming-pc/

Almost identical. Was this where you got it from? If not, then that one seems to match perfectly :D

I have a 4350, and a cool thing I learned:

4=generation

3=performance (0-3 is low, 4-6 is moderate, 7-9 is high, etc)

5=refined performance (i.e 4350 is weak but is better than 4300)

0=0

It's acceptable, but what is the need for the 700W? You don't need that much.

Edit: Actually, I'd rather suggest something else than that Mushkin. Corsair HX650 or even Seasonic M12 620W if it must be modular. This is also excellent:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-P1-650X-NLG9-Modular-Power-Supply/dp/B002WECXG6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1315764050&sr=8-3

Play with this:

You'll be pretty well equipped for BF3 with the proposed system IMO. Should last a couple years me thinks.

You make it seem like in the "refined performance" section that lower is better?

You'd pass from a mid-card of the previous gen to a mid-hi' one of the current one. I'd say it'll be "relatively" noticeable, but you should only upgrade if you REALLY want highest settings at 60 fps.

Im sure my system will play fine on max setting but I just got a 3rd monitor and was hoping to play skyrim stretched. Would 2 gtx 460's 768mb version run it on 3 1680x1050 monitors? soon as it comes im going to try it with Fallout 3 see what I get but figured it couldnt hurt to ask. this is my first venture into 3 monitor gaming, been using 3 for work so i set it up at home.

I'm not super picky about my settings, but I'm definitely not upgrading due to the fact a better card is a bit more pricey than my actual PC.

If you aren't, then I suggest you stick with your 5770, and change it only if you try Skyrim and you feel like it :)

And well, decent cards are not as pricey as a full PC. My actual GTX 560 Ti SOC only costed me 200 €....

Are NVIDA cards better than AMD/ATI cards for the price?

No, just depends on what your looking at. Both ATI/Nvidia have cards that are head to head in performance. Sometimes the Nvidia card is cheaper, sometimes the ATI.

Is there and Nvidia card better than my HD 5770 but at a decent price?
