Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion #23

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 3:31 am

I'm not super picky about my settings, but I'm definitely not upgrading due to the fact a better card is a bit more pricey than my actual PC.

 A better card is the Radeon 6870...a less than $200 card. I refuse to believe your PC cost that little unless you got it off a friend/family member or something.

Does anyone recommend a pc, I cant wait for the requirements to run skyrim on max because I need to spend the money by tomorrow, so are there any pre made pcs that can be recommended to run skyrim on maximum settings. Thanks -w2drs21
and can the price be around 1300 us dollars

It must be prebuilt?

What else do you need other than the tower? Monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, windows OS install, etc??? These can heavily affect price and component selection.

Are NVIDA cards better than AMD/ATI cards for the price?

Both have cards that compete with each other....win some lose some based on games. Both have cards that are priced lower and higher compared to their equivalents. Buy the best performing card for your money based on the games you play. I've provided a link in a previous post that showed several games. There are tons of other benchmarks out there to look at with more games.

RESEARCH.

Is there and Nvidia card better than my HD 5770 but at a decent price?

What do you consider a decent price?

Hmm...$200-$600? I know that seems low for a GPU card, so I'm guessing there aren't any like that.

Lol...with just $300 you could get a GPU that would destroy any game.

I mean it be able to play any game at max settings lol. GPU's aren't that expensive unless you start looking at 590's and 6990's which are just 2 GPU's in one and are overkill and a waste of money. Before we start making any upgrade suggestions we have do know what your current powers supply is in your computer, would you happen to know?

all i need is the tower, and I want it pre built because I dont know enough about pcs to build one and it will be easier for to just buy one pre built. thanks for your reply.

Hm. I could look it up at the online store I bought it at, or is there a way to find it on the system settings?

The only way of finding it, is by opening up the case and looking inside. If you know the brand of your computer, I'm guessing it's a pre-built you could probably Google it. Either way if it's a pre-built your most likely going to need a PSU upgrade.

It's a pre-built Dell XPS 8300. I just found it on dell.com and it says it's power supply is 460 watts. is that right or am i wrong?

That seems about right. That's a close call, I know dell PSU's are pretty underrated so you might be OK, actually. I'll let Tig Ol Bitties chime in on this though, he's much better with power supplies then I am lol.

EDIT: Actually on their website there's a option to upgrade to a 6870, so if should definitely be able to handle a new card. I don't know about a GTX 570 though. A 6870/560 would probably be OK though.

The PSU would be ok for a Radeon 6950 or the GTX 560 Ti. Close call for something like the GTX 570, I wouldn't suggest it.

Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6800 series (can't seem to find the exact version..)

You'll max it easily.

No, just depends on what your looking at. Both ATI/Nvidia have cards that are head to head in performance. Sometimes the Nvidia card is cheaper, sometimes the ATI.

Untrue. Nvidia cards are usually more expensive but offer more performance than ATi cards, especially the high-end ones. The mid range may be more tied up, but usually Nvidia gets the upper hand to it's ATi equivalent. At a small price increase...

I'm definitely going to have to disagree with that, but I'm not going to argue over something like this...

Well, I'm not going to argue either. The benchmarks talk for me :)

I'm no expert on pre-made PC's, but it looks like that in NewEgg.com there are some quality ones at reasonable prices...
