Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion #24

Post » Thu Sep 15, 2011 12:41 am

Glad to hear!

I can however maxout Fallout 3/NV and still run at 30fps, are you sure I can't maybe edge Skyrim up to High?

Tig Ol Bitties's chart is predictions, and when you put that and the better optimized engine together, you could see a tad higher settings :)

Like Unidentical said, they are estimates

many people that play on pc play for the graphics, not to mention that they are 'optimizing' for xbox and porting to pc, something that has never really been their strong point. and if you played on oblivion with relatively few mods you know how much more demanding some of those mods are on the system, especially the graphics mods. so, when people are asking if they'll be able to max it i'm assuming they are looking to install mods as desired and still run it maxed which will require a bit more than the average pc.

thank you for clearing that up. When do you believe they will release spec requirements?

Probably late September/early October if I had to guess.

I think its safe to say that if you were able to run most games that came out in 1 year period on max settings you will be able to run Skyrim on max too , i am talking about games like The wticher 2, Dead island, Crysis 2, Two worlds 2, wouldn't you agree?

 Exactly!

Yup, I agree. Overestimation also leaves plenty of space for graphical mods :)

In theory yes, in practise sometimes PC gaming can go horribly horribly wrong.

Arma 2 and OB are prime examples of games being far more demanding than they should be due to optimization issues.

I run Fallout 3 (2008) MUCH better than Oblivion (2006)... So yes, optimization is a key factor.

Budget under £500 hopefully. Will my PSU be good enough to handle the upgrades? Should I upgrade my video card or could I buy another and SLI them?

Would this work?

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

How do I know if a motherboard will fit in my case, it doesn't give the dimensions?

I have the NZXT Apollo case.

Your motherboard would fit fine...the Apollo case is a decent one that fits standard ATX boards. Get a new PSU and new video card too. The Thermaltake TR2 PSUs are actually poorly built by today's standard. And don't bother with SLI'ing the old card that the GTS 250 is....there are plenty of single cards under $200 that would outperform two of those (Radeon 6870 and GTX 560). The PSU wouldn't be able to handle the SLI anyways.

Get a new PSU though should you decide to get a new card....for something cheap but of good quality, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371047&Tpk=antec%20hcg%20520w or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030. Even the Corsair http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 is a much better unit than that TR2. And yes, the PSU suggestions would handle your upgrades just fine.

Am i the only one who feels people are over estimating how demanding this game will be?....
People seem to forget Bethesda made this engine so their for the optimization will likely be good.

I feel that I probably am, but it is better to overestimate than to under. Even if it moves someone to upgrade something, it's to their benefit in the end. I agree, FO3 and FNV were much better optimized than Oblivion was so that gives positive hope...but you just never know as Elderscrolls and Fallout have their differences too.

Glad to hear!

Your resolution is in question here. Like said in the first post, if you're running a res lower than 1080p (1920x1080), your level of gameplay can be better than what's noted in the list.

What, no partial credit to me for coming up with the idea of adding a video card list? :P

This is a good point. We won't truly know how it will run til it's out, but it will be better than ob and f3, due to Beth optimising the game better (hopefully).

You should be right around medium settings, with solid FPS. :)

This is not-so-much a question of whether or not this PC will run Skyrim, but more a request for someone to look over http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Intel_Z68_Core_i5_i7_Configurator/w/84310 and tell me if it all looks good together, and if any changes are suggested or anything like that.

I want to run Skyrim on max settings and hopefully max-modded-settings, and that goes for all modern PC games, really.

The 6970 over the 6950, and get two of them.

Get a SS HD.

Get an i7 2600k.

I mean they are the major things you can do. On a more serious note i would suggest getting a 6970 over a 6950 though, then the system will probably be able to max everything for the next few years.

I'm sure someone else can give you more in depth cost effective advice though.

You should be fine. They said that I would max it with a Video Card even lower than yours.

If you upgrade the GPU you should have little trouble maxing the game otherwise it might depend on the resolution you intend to play at.

Then i suggest you upgrade to be on the safe side, it's only gonna help you out anyway with future PC games.
