While the video cards are pretty spot-on, as far as predictions go, it would be good to throw in recommended processors, and with that, comes the motherboard, memory, HDD or SSD.

No offense to you, tgl1992, but not everyone here has taken an IT course. I do find this thread exceptionally helpful but it would help many users if more parts were listed. I could help you compile them if you need to, but keep in mind that I'm just suggesting it. No offense intended.

There is already a note in the OP regarding CPUs. CPU performance is not something simple to determine with Bethesda games and is more unknown with Skyrim (more so than GPUs). Oblivion is very CPU intensive (then again poorly optimized) and the Fallout games weren't as much. If you have at least a true dual-core chip (no Pentium 4 garbage or Celerons), then you should be fine to run the game.

Greg49 already gave good reasons for the rest of the components. This isn't going to be a full PC hardware guide just to run one game....the GPU is the biggest determining factor for performance levels.

Alright, here goes:

Operating System: MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP2
CPU: Intel Pentium D 945 Presler 65nm Technology
RAM: 2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 266MHz (4-4-4-12)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. G31M-S2L (Socket 775)
Graphics: E70-3 (1024x768@75Hz) 128MB GeForce 8400 GS (Gigabyte) 57 °C
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio

I am fully aware this is a weak system. I'm more interested in what I should update first.

Well, definitely CPU and GPU. DDR2 RAM at 266MHz? That's rather slow, but looks to be a typo. With all of that, may as well replace everything (CPU, MOBO, RAM, GPU). Socket 775 has been dying for a while now and CPU upgrades on that platform are not cheap. Can get better deals with newer technology.

Be nice to know what power supply you are using too. Brand and model.

True but I was referring to Skyrim, and since its a brand new game I am confident that amd will make the game fully compatible with the crossfire. And I highly doubt I will even look at Oblivion when Skyrim comes out.

Well, you may end up disappointed. Crossfire and SLI has been rather hit or miss with this game engine. One 6950 should still max the game out though.

It looks like I'll be able to max everything out. Can you guys just make sure for me?

CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66GHz 41 °C
Yorkfield 45nm Technology
RAM
5.00 GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-5-5-31)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5N-D (Socket 775) 40 °C
Graphics
H233H (1920x1080@60Hz)
1024MB GeForce GTX 460 (Gigabyte) 29 °C

For both of you, High settings at least, but probably will max.

I assume that I will be able to play the game on the highest setting, or else I will have to upgrade :P

CPU and GPU are too slow for modern games. But getting a modern CPU also means a new Motherboard and RAM, so you are better off buying a new MoBo/RAM/CPU/GPU set.

Is the CPU a E6600 (duo) or Q6600 (quad)? If Skyrim is optimized for quads, a Q6600 is almost guaranteed to max out Skyrim.

Just get a whole new computer. Nothing about that computer is really upgradable. I can spec out a nearly top of the line machine for C$1100 with tax, for a reference price. If you give us a budget other people in here can give you an idea of what you can get.

The Q6600's stock speed is 2.4Ghz so Id guess its the quad

Hello!

I am going to buy a new PC (my laptop can't play games for s**t) and wondered if this is gonna max out Skyrim AND be able to play some future games on max aswell :D

Ok so here are the specs...

-Motherboard- MSI P67A-GD80 B3

-Processor- Intel Core i7 2600k

-RAM- 8 gb

-Video card 1- MSI GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX PCI-Express 2.0,"Twin Frozr II"

-Video card 2- MSI GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX PCI-Express 2.0,"Twin Frozr II"

-Hard drive- Intel SSD 510 series 125 gb

-Data hard drive- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB

-Sound card- ASUS Xonar DX PCIe-x1, EAX 2.0

And I believe that was all, and I'm not that good with computers so please tell me if something is too much or not enough, but I want to be able to play games in the future too :P

you will definitely max the game with that....and most likely every pc game to come out in the next several years.

a couple of observations:
a.) you could save a bit (about $100) on the cpu by going with the Intel Core i7 2500k instead of the Intel Core i7 2600k. the 2600 doesn't really give you any performance gains over the 2500 when it comes to gaming
b.) a discreet sound card isn't really necessary so you could save a bit there (unless you are a true audiophile)
c.) make sure you get a GOOD quality power supply to protect that investment and make it big enough to ensure future upgrades.

on a side note i prefer asus motherboards to msi....msi i've had trouble with in the past but that's just my personal preference.

Thank you very much for the answer!
I will have a 1050w corsair power supply, that I think is good enough, but not really sure, I know Corsair is a really good brand, but I think 1050w should be enough too?
As for the motherboard, There wasn't any other ASUS motherboard other than the sabertooth P67 and the P8Z68 Deluxe, but are any of these good or should I stick with the MSI, I maybe want to overclock a little bit in the future if any of the motherboards is good enough? And I read something about 8x and 16x or something with the motherboard, what do they mean by that?

the asus z68 deluxe is a great motherboard, very stable for overclocking. it is a bit more expensive but if you are going to overclock i think it's well worth it and if you save the $100 on the cpu you can afford the better motherboard.

I have an okay computer but a crappy graphics card. How much would you expect a graphics card that could run Skyrim on Medium or higher settings would cost?

This is a somewhat personal problem but I would like some help.
I did some research on the PC system requirements for Skyrim. I want the PC version because I'm getting a new computer for Christmas and I do not want to wait a month.
So I will play it on my old PC and I will do a memory transfer. The problem is I match the system requirements for everything but the RAM (I think).
It says I have 3 GB of RAM but 2.75g usable . The minimum amounts of Ram is 3GB to play Skyrim.
So can I play it or should I just go purchase some ddr2 ram?

There are no system requirements just speculation.

2GB of RAM is fine.

2GB is okay, but really... RAM is so cheap, there's no reason to NOT upgrade to at least 4 GB if your motherboard supports it...

What are the specs of the computer you're going to purchase?
