Thanks buddy!!

I was pretty sure I would max it, as ive only had the rig since last December.

I dont think it will max out Battlefield 3 though, LOL

Hey! Don't poke fun as us people with unnecessary amounts of ram. It was on sale and that totally justifies it :(

I wasn't planning on upgrading my CPU anytime soon (as I'd also have to upgrade the motherboard,) but I wanted to hear what you guys think of how it will handle Skyrim with what my rig's going to look like on launch.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.00GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB (overclocked, most expensive model I could find: MSI R6870 HAWK)
8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
2TB HDD 7200rpm 64mb cache SATA III 6GB/s

I did have my CPU overclocked to 3.15GHz, but it was reaching nearly 70C so I undid it. I should be getting an Arctic Cooler 7 in the near future, and plan to crank it up to 3.3GHz. Any thoughts on whether or not the Athlon II is going to bottleneck my system would be appreciated.

You don't need to buy an expensive Radeon 6870. The base model will be just fine and you'll save a lot of money. In fact, I recommend XFX for ALL Radeon purchases, due to their double lifetime warranty (lifetime warranty for yourself + lifetime warranty for anybody you sell it to, increasing its resale value). Additionally, a 4 core 3ghz should be just fine for Skyrim, since it's doubtful it'll use more than 2 cores.

Those are speculated system requirements for BF3. Its been confirmed that you need 2x GTX 580s to max BF3 at 1080p. Of course Skyrim isnt going to be anywhere near that demand though.

As I pointed out before the list in the first post on GPUs seems to be aiming a little too high. A moderator removed my comment for some bizzare reason though.

I don't know about Canada, but down here in Texas you NEED 2 fans on your graphics card. The summers here are absolutely ridiculous, we had 39 days of 100+ degree weather, only broken by a day of clouds and another 15 days of 100+. The extra cooling is worth it for me, and thanks for the reassurance about my CPU.

XFX sells various cards with aftermarket coolers AND if you mail them a 3rd party cooler and your video card, they'll mail you back the card with it attached. They're just awesome like that.

Better over estimate a little, not as if upgrading to get the desired setting from that list is going to hurt anyone.

That's the only dual-fan 6870 they have. Do you think it's better than the MSI equivalent?

Speaking objectively, the MSI cooler design does not look nearly as good as XFX's. Additionally, those fans look kind of "low quality" in terms of craftmanship. I would definitely recommend the XFX over the MSI in this case, even if I knew nothing about the 2 companies.

I'll shoot for the XFX then, and thanks for all the advice. You might have just saved me several hundred dollars :)

Hello all.
Ive got a HP p6320y desktop. Specs are :
MB- M2N78-LA (Violet6) motherboard
Processor- AMD Phenom II X4 820
Memory -8GB DDR3
Hard Drive- 1 TB 5400 rpm

Ive upgraded the graphics card to a ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series and an appropriate power supply. It plays SC2 on high settings pretty well, but I notice Some lag in extreme cases.
heres a link in case I forgot something. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01969880&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4120661&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N305

I want to run skyrim at max in all its glory. Do i need upgrades? If i do need upgrades, suggestions would be appreciated.

"5700 series" is pretty vague, I'm going to need the exact number (5750,5770) before I can make any recommendations in regard to that. At 5400rpm, your HDD is going to significantly increase load times as compared to a 7200rpm like the one in my sig. Your processor and RAM will do fine.

Hey guys,
Let me know how mine will do.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 MaxCore OC
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB
Logitech G510 Keyboard & Razer Imperator Mouse.

Is my Graphics Card good enough? http://www.amazon.com/BFG-BFGEGTX260MC896OCE-GeForce-MAXCORE-Graphics/dp/B001G0MSMG is more info on the card, it's not the standard 260.

Thanks.
