It wouldn't worry about the CPU, I'd be looking at getting the best GPU even it that means getting an i5 dual core to stay in budget. For 1100€ you should be getting a GTX 460m at the very least. The graphics card is what is going to make the difference in deciding how high the settings go.

It's hard to find offers if you are looking for graphics cards. But prices seem to skyrocket beyond the 555m.

Base price 1100€,
8GB RAM
i3 2310M 2.1 GHz
* i5 2410M 2.3 - 2.9 GHz +67€
* i5 2520M 2.5 - 3.2 GHz +109€
* i5 2540M 2.6 - 3.3 GHz +151€
GTX 560M 1.5GB
* Radeon HD 6990M 2GB +150€
* GTX 580M 2GB +450€

I found a similar laptop with an AMD Radeon HD6850 2048MB DDR3, would that be better?

The 6850M is quite a bit faster then the 540M and should get you medium/high settings. It's pretty close to the GT 555M, so if the GT 555M, 560M, 6970M, etc. are out of your budget the 6850M would probably be your best choice. Just make sure it's the GDDR5 version and not the GDDR3 version.

Hey you guys ordered my crossfire bridge because dell didnt tell me I needed one. So I have my other card just sitting here waiting for the bridge. The problem is, I ordered the bridge from dell with two day shipping but the oder has been delayed thus giving me no reason to continue the order. So I decided to cancel that order and buy a bridge from ebay today. So you can any of you guys give me a link to a relIable bridge on ebay or just tell which bridges are reliable? Thanks

I've been thinking about having a PC custom-built for Skyrim (and 3D modelling purposes, video editing etc.) but I'm having a hard time coming up with a decent configuration that's also not very expensive. I've found some pre-built ones, though. I'm wondering if this could suit my needs, here's what it says in a local catalogue:

MSI H67, Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX550 MSI 1GB DDR5
1000GB SATA3 HDD
ATX 500W

It costs 475€. Is this a fair price? Any good alternatives? Thanks in advance.

that would run skyrim very well, high/very high if not maxed. as for price, it seems reasonable but i'm not sure due to conversion rates.

Then I'd grab the 555m.

Do you have a link to the site, google will translate for me. Do you know any other sites in Germany? Any place that sells Sager/Clevo, Asus, MSI laptops?

I am running a core i7 1.73 GHz 1.73 GHz
6 gigs ram
Raedon Mobility 5850 1gig.

I am hoping I can run skyrim smoothly, but I saw my graphics card pretty far down the list plus I am using a laptop (I know I know).

Any thoughts on how well I might be able to play?

You might understand this even without translator. These are my best results so far. Preconfigured builds are sometimes cheaper, but then they don't have good graphics cards.

If someone finds a good offer for an ~15" laptop with 8GB RAM and a good* graphics card, please share.

* Since I want to keep the laptop for some years, it should be in the higher range.

Video: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1 GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits

Will this config be enough to play skyrim in high settings? thanx in advance. BTW, I'm planning to play in 1680x1050 resolution.

I would get the http://www.one.de/shop/product_info.php?cPath=203&action=config&products_id=4914&grt=1&tar=19&nav=off one. This would be the stronger gaming machine as the http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-560M.48313.0.html is ~50% more powerful than the http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html.

949€ - Base GTX560m
060€ - i5 2410 2.3-2.9GHz
020€ - 4GB RAM
015€ - 320GB 7200rpm HDD
080€ - Windows7 x64

1124€ - Total

The monitor you already have on the laptop with the Mobility HD 5850, what is it's native resolution?

Thanks, both of you. :) I wasn't very sure because I know they tend to cheat with pre-builts. I doubt this will be helpful, since it's Serbia, but I found it http://www.winwin.rs

I've got several unused bridges (Asus/Tul) for CF here - so if you need some (2€ plus postage) just send me a PM. I even got some long ones (DFI) if there's a longer distance between the cards...

You should do a mix of medium and high with AA. I have the Mobility HD5870, which is the same card just with faster clocks [700/1000]. Do you overclock? You could get a little extra performance that way. [If your are interested, go to http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebook-manufacturers/ and find the forum for the maker of your laptop. You'll get all the relevant info [like what overclocking tool to use and approximately what clocks to set] from someone.

hmm would that be a bad idea with respect to cooling? my laptop already acts like a space heater at times (readings say its safe and just within normal range, but it literally burned me once)

I do know how to manually set my fan speeds too though, but again, i am scared that will damage the mobo or power supply by straining it
