hmm would that be a bad idea with respect to cooling? my laptop already acts like a space heater at times (readings say its safe and just within normal range, but it literally burned me once)

I do know how to manually set my fan speeds too though, but again, i am scared that will damage the mobo or power supply by straining it

What kind of temperatures are you getting, do you have a program to monitor your temperatures with?

Well I recently used the Can You Run It? program and it said that I was mid-way between Good and Optimal performance for the game RAGE which I assume has a bit more graphical prowess that Skyrim. It did note that my processor could be upgraded. Here's my specs.........

4 GB Ram- 2.6GB dedicated VRAM
AMD Phenom™ II X2 555 Processor-3.2 gHz
GeForce GTX 260

Windows 7 x64 bit OS
1 Terrabyte of memory

If anything else is needed please let me know, I'm planning on upgrading my video card and/or processor come holiday season. However I'll be playing the first few weeks on whatever these specs will get me.
Any advice on what parts I should get?

Besides that, you are in the high range

Should be fine for high settings, as far as upgrades go I think Bulldozer is coming out soon and something like a GTX 560 Ti would be a pretty good upgrade for you. Sense your not buying for awhile the prices will probably drop.

EDIT: Also depends on your budget and your current power supply. Although if I'm not mistaken the 260's were some what power hungry.

Any upgrades that you would recommend so that I can run at Max setting and maybe throw in some graphic enhancing mods down the road?

Thanks for the help guys, I'm pretty stoked that those specs are going to be adequate. This PC continues to amaze me, 800$ and Its 2 years old and still able to play new titles at great settings. Never thought that was possible with a PC

Hey, I am wondering about how well a 15 inch macbook pro will run the game? bootcamp, W7 64 bit.

8GB ddr3 ram
750gb hdd (5400 rpm) (might put in a SSD, or atleast a 7200rpm drive - side question - is there a big difference in 7200rpm from 5400rpm in laptops?)?

Running at 1440 x 900

HD 6750m
2.2ghz quad core i7 sandy bridge

Thanks

You are in the Medium-high range, but I am not sure if bootcamp affects it.

RPM (if you didn't know) stands for "revolutions per minute", meaning how fast your disc spins. The more RPM's, the faster the read/write times.

On the graphics settings I can't help since I'm not the best at determining that

Probably close to high settings at that resolution. Their is a pretty big difference between a 5400 RPM and a 7200 RPM HD, it won't help in game play but it will definitely help with load times and install times. Their are a lot of load screens in TES so it would probably be a worthy upgrade. Also a SSD would destroy both a 5400/7200 RPM and probably make load times 1-2 seconds or almost non-existent.

You're best bet is building an actual gaming PC. Gaming laptops are WAY over priced for the most part. Also, upgrading laptops is typically limited to memory and storage. Everything else is typically integrated into the main board somehow. If you don't have room for a full sized PC, just get it for 360.

Desktops are most certainly better quality / value, but he said he's at college, so that might not be an option.

I wouldn't get a gamin laptop. I have one, which is an Asus G50VT-X5 and is awesome but the GPU just died a couple months ago and are hard and expensive to replace so your better off building a desktop pc. I'm thinking about getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.722571&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-722571-_-Combo and looks to be a really good deal.

I just bought an Asus G74SX laptop and its blazing fast; I can play Crysis 2 very smoothly. Its a bargain for under $1200. The gpu is integrated so if you want to upgrade you'll need to get another lappy. If you have a job and have some entertainment money allocated and specially, if you apartment is very small, a gaming laptop is a great idea. This Asus would have cost you at least $2000 if it were Alienware, Mac or even Dell.
