Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Discussion #33

Post » Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:48 pm

Hi everyone I have a question. How well would a Nvidia Geforce 450 GTS run on a 300 watt PSU?

Please don't post it more than once, it is considered spam. Please be patient if nobody answers your question unless the thread was locked or it has been more than a day.

As for the question, it requires 400w PSU, so I suggest go to Newegg and look for some PSU's. Quality is a biggie here so look for Brands like Antec/Corsair (Cant remember the others)

Hi guys!

I have a Geforce 9600GT (512mb) right now. I have found a GeForce GTS 450 1GB (GDDR5 version) and a GTX 550 Ti and I am just wondering if any of these will work with my computer. I have a 400w PSU (which is what Nvidia recommends for the 450, 550 and 9600gt.

So if my computer can handle the 9600GT just fine, it should not be a problem to fit the 450/550 right? They go into the same slot on the motherboard? Does the 450/550 require anything else that the 9600gt does not (like do I need more cooling for these cards)?

And my last question, would it be an OK upgrade? I know its not the best cards on the planet, but it should give my computer a boost right? My other specs are Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and 6gb RAM, Win7 64-bit.

Thanks in advance!

The 550 will max it, so yes it is a great upgrade!

Thinking about purchasing a PC to play Skyrim instead of using my ps3, cause of mods lol. So will this be able to run skyrim? How well?

About medium at worst. May get by with medium-highish levels

Oh REALLY?! You think so? :D even with the rest of my computer in mind? The processor I am a bit worried about :P
So you think that if my computer could handle a 9600gt it can handle the 550 Ti? (Heat, PSU or anything else wont be a problem?)

As long as your PSU is 400w and the 550 requires 400w minimum, you are good

All in all, it looks great but just to be safe probably wait for other input (Perhaps PM a member than wait for other posts)

Hope that helps :)

hey again. Here is a picture and some information about my motherboard:
http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-m56s-s3_1x/

Is it possible to fit a dual slot GPU like the Geforce GTX 550 Ti on here?
Thanks for the help :)

Hiya, I've got a old Phenom X3 8750 (triple-core 2,4 GHz), 4gb RAM and a 4850HD (512 MB), I'm expecting medium-ish settings at 1020p, will I be disappointed?

Planning on upgrading but probably not 'till after Christmas and I really hope to be able to enjoy Skyrim before then...

Edit: Sorry meant 1080p...

You mean 1920x1200? You might encounter a memory bottleneck from the GPU (only 512 MB) at higher settings. On lower resolutions it should pull of medium to high settings.

Sorry, but that card is Seriously old  in the speculation thread its like the 3rd lowest before the category hits the "will not run" bracket.

I wouldnt put money on your card running Skyrim without really low fps.

You should be able to run it, though around low with some stuttering.

You should be fine at medium (maybe a touch of high) depending on how high that Athlon is clocked.

Though this should be in the tech thread.

You gave me ray of hope, thank you. I played many games that my card wasn't even in minimum requirements. Maybe good ppl will make some tweaks for weak cards players.

No offense, but a ps3 or 360 would run the game, probably Alot better than your PC, if at all possible I would go that route if I were you.

Yeah, but like others have said. It will really not look or play very well.

It is clocked at 2.91GHz.

I am looking to upgrade, probably around or before the new year (hopefully cheaper stuffs).

I really doubt that card would run Skyrim on med or high at 1080p.
