Yes. Hard to say due to the weak CPU.

Hi forum!

I have a rig I'm currently building that had a 500ish budget and have brought together this part list.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ATQn

I see that the GPU I have selected is in the list on the first page, so I'm happy about that. But a couple things concern me about my build I was hoping some experts could answer.
  • The first thing is about conflict. Is any of those parts going to conflict with each other? I have read some confusing comments about getting ATX stuff, not sure what that means, and that if you have an ATX mobo you should get an ATX PSU because nothing else will work with it.
  • Second question concerns the wattage output of the computer. Will a 630W be good enough or should I be safe and try to buy a 700W?
  • Third; The CPU. Is the one I have a good CPU? My mobo only accepts Sandy Bridge straight out of the box, but for 213$ I was wondering if there was anything better for a little bit more I should probably just end of getting?
  • Fourth; what kind of performance could I expect out of this rig? I don't expect ultra and I probably wouldn't want to run ultra, but what about fps and the ability to add texture mods? Would that overkill my computer?
Oh, and the motherboard is a "MSI Z68A-G43 (G3) ATX LGA1155", which I already bought. I have a couple of friends who play Skyrim with it and have recommended it to me, also because it was on a very good sale when I bought it. About 30$ cheaper than its list price.

Well, thanks for reading!

This thread is only to tell you how a specific configuration will run the game.

You want the Tech thread in Community Discussion.

Oh man, sorry about that. I'm not used to forums quite yet.

Again, my apologies!

Here's my specs
AMD Athlon 2 X3 425 Processor 2.7 GHz
3.3 GB Ram
Windows Vista service pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4770 512mb

Pretty old , But will it run on medium settings at a smooth framerate?
And would it look at least a bit better than the 360/PS3 version?

What frame rate could I expect on medium settings?

Are these really in sequential order of how good they perform?
Could anyone help explain why the numbers are not sorted in descending order? like why doesn't Radeon HD7970 come before HD6990.
I'm honestly just looking for a great bang on the buck high Skyrim performance in ATI Radeon.

Also how much Graphic Card Memory does Skyrim really need? I read that too much is complete waste, as games only utilize certain amount (normally max at 1GB), is this correct?

Thank you in advance.

You are in the wrong thread. You need to be in the Community Forum's Tech thread, not in this one. If you distrust the OP sequence, that is off-topic for this thread. You can, of course, send a PM to the author.

Feel foolish for asking but it will be a while before I get a suitable gaming PC.

Will these specs run Sky fine at minimum with no shadow and only the unofficial patches. I ask because this laptop has ran the Sims 3.
  • Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0 GHz Processor; 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz Bus speed
  • 4096 MB DDR2 (PC2-6400) RAM Max - 4 GB
  • 320 Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Processor Brand Intel Processor Count 2 Computer Memory Type DDR2 SDRAM Hard Drive Interface Serial ATA GB (5400 RPM) SATA Hard Drive
3gigs of ram.

I know this system is ancient but I am curious.

Not without a dedicated GPU, it won't.

Ask in the Tech Thread in Community Discussion, this thread is just to tell you how well a specific configuration will run the game.

The second one will give you better results.

As for a PSU, you also want this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1440306-the-community-tech-thread-no-125-quasquicentennial-edition/

Not sure if I should ask this here or in Modding. Please point me there if need be.

I still haven't started Skyrim at all, been waiting to upgrade my GFX.

Is there any consensus/data on what the highest level of GFX ram used by Skyrim is when applying the major texture mods? I'm not looking for exact numbers rather the max ranges.

I'm debating between 3gb and 6gb Radeon cards and want to get an idea whether the 6gb is wasted or future proofing for any/all the GFX mods I want to apply to Skyrim.

I'm especially interested for this on my 1920x1080x120HZ current monitor.
