I am looking to build a kick-ass gaming PC that could run Skyrim on maxed out settings on a single 1920x1080 monitor, and hopefully spend no more than $1,200. That is on the absolute outer limit of my current PC budget. So far this is what I have picked out:

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504
Heatsink/Fan: Freezer 7 PRO Rev. 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134&Tpk=Freezer%207%20PRO%20Rev.%202
GPU: 3GB GeForce 660Ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233240
HDD: SAMSUNG 830 Series 128gb SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147163
Case: COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119194&Tpk=CM%20Storm%20Sniper%20Black
PSU: CORSAIR TX Series 650W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010
Disc Drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
Total cost: $1,225

That only puts me $25 over my suggested budget, and that's after factoring in the OS I completely forgot about until the last second. Is there anything there I should change? I am not experienced with building computers by any means (this would be my first build). This is just the best configuration that I was able to come up with after about a month of research. Will this rig run Skyrim on max settings at least at 50 FPS?

Okay, before I finalize my decisions and start confirming this set-up on a few other forums I frequent I do have one major question that could influence my buying decision. But first, here is my current and most updated list:

Motherboard: http://www.tinyurl.com/skyrimmotherboard
CPU: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimcpu
Heatsink/Fan: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimheatsinkandfan
GPU: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimgpu
RAM: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimram
HDD: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimhdd
Case: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimchassis
PSU: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimpsu
Disc Drive: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimdvddrive
OS: http://tinyurl.com/skyrimOS
Total cost: $1,265

Basically what happened was that I realized that several of the items on the list have rebates, so I went ahead and upgraded to a GTX 680. My question is, Do you think it's worth it, or should I stick with the GTX 660Ti?

"Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #62 w/ hardware guide"

This thread could not be more relevant. I am asking whether or not the set-up I have chosen will run Skyrim the way I want it to.

Thanks, I guess I kind of already knew that when I upgraded to the GTX 680. I guess now it's a matter of how many graphical improvement mods I can handle. How much do you think this system could handle?

Hello, could someone please answer my question.

How well would a computer play skyrim if it had these specs:

- Intel Core i3 2120T processor
- Windows 8
- Memory: 4 GB
- Hard drive: 500 GB

Im also going to buy a Sapphire AMD HD 7770 Graphics card to go with it.

Could someone please tell me around about how well skyrim will run with these specs. Thank you

I wouldn't go with that processor. If you have to go with an i3 and not an i5 at least get an Ivy Bridge. This one right here is cheaper than the one you have listed, and it has a nearly 1GHz higher stock clock speed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116775

It's $5 cheaper than the one you have listed, and if you buy it before January 7, there is a promo code for 10% off that CPU, which brings it down to $116.99.

High or ultra, depending on your resolution and framerate tolerance.

Upgrading my GPU from GeCube 3870 512MB to HIS 7950 X2 Boost Clock 3GB.

Already have i5-3450 3.1GHz with 8GB DDR3 1600MHz.

Should be able to max skyrim at 1080p?

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro, and I was wondering if its possible to run Skyrim (via bootcamp) with these specs:

2.5 Ghz intel core i5

4gb ram

intel hd 4000 384 mb

I am hoping for low settings at best, but as long as it runs I'll be happy

I run it just fine on my 2010 Macbook Pro in Bootcamp (2.5 GHz i5 and Nvidia Geforce 330m) with High texture quality, Medium shadows, Ultra decals, High distant detail, 4x AA and 8xAF, while also running Skyrim HD - 2k texture pack, Static Mesh Improvent Mod, Unique High Definition Textures, Skyrim Floral Overhaul, Serious HD Retexture Landscape 2048, and a whole host of other graphics and overhaul mods (though I stick to 1360x768 resolution as it gives off a great image on my HDTV while maintaining over 20 FPS).

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-Benchmarked.73567.0.html

According to the above link, you should be able to get about 20 FPS on the Medium preset with 4xAA enable, or 40 FPS on the Low preset. If you need any help getting increased performance, feel free to ask. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty good at optimization and squeezing every last ounce of performance out of my lackluster computer.

I imagine your results would be lower due to the i5 mobile CPU, but the following http://www.anandtech.com/show/5771/the-intel-ivy-bridge-core-i7-3770k-review/16 suggests when paired with a fast processor, the HD4000 can run Skyrim quite well at 1366x768 and even 1680x1050 with anti aliasing turned off.

When I run Skyrim at 1080p on my laptop, the only settings that seemed to make a significant difference performance-wise were anti-aliasing and shadow detail. Try turning off AA and using FXAA instead (looks about as good as 4xAA, but with negligible performance cost). If the frame rate is still too low, try reducing the shadow detail setting, or reducing below your native display resolution. Most of the other settings don't impact performance, as detailed in http://www.geforce.com/optimize/guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide#1

Not sure if this is the right place, but I need some advice on upgrading my system to run Skyrim better.

Current specs:

HP Pavillion Elite HPE
AMD Phemon II X6 1045T
8 GB DDR 3
1.5 TB HDD
ATI Radeon HD 6450 512 MB
Windows 7

I'm currently running low settings with framerates between 15-20 fps when I'm lucky. I'm getting repeated CTD and my core temp jumps at least 20 degrees when I run Skyrim. I've noticed that when the core temp hits over 105 degrees, the game will crash. My current power supply is crap, 300 watts. So that's the first thing getting upgraded.

Here's what I'm looking at upgrading:
Power Supply 500 watts at least
Cooling
Video Card

I haven't done major upgrades on a computer before, so I'm a ltittle unsure about what I need. My question is, what video card would work best with my current setup? Nvidia or Radeon, what's better? What about the cooling? Since I'm already having issues with this, what will my prospective upgrades do in this regard? I'm hoping to run Skyrim on Ultra/High settings.

This thread is more for existing setups, not a topic asking what to upgrade hardware-wise

For kind kind of question, you want this thread:
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1430631-the-community-tech-thread-no-123/

To answer your question better post there, but also indicate the budget you want to spend. Power supply will definitely need to be upgraded for a more respectable video card. Whether it's Nvidia or AMD, doesn't really matter. They both have cards that are competitive performance-wise at similar price points. However, if things like Linux, PhysX, or 3D are something you want to get into...Nvidia has the technology in their cards better suited for that. AMD if you're looking to use multiple monitors. In any case, repost the question in the given thread.

Know ive asked about my cpus specs before but guess i need more clarity on the issue. I know very little when it comes to gaming on a computer so here it goes.

Would an AMD A8 5500 paired with lets say a Nvidia GTX 560 ti play skyrim on high?

10gb ram and windows 8 btw?

What resolution? I think even at 1080p that GPU should be sufficient for high if not ultra preset.

The CPU, not too sure, don't think its amazing at gaming but it should be good enough?

RAM is more than enough, can't comment on Windows 8.

The hardware is more than capable to give you Ultra settings. Win8 should be fine as well...plenty of people run the game on it.

I'm shopping around for a new laptop and I came across this little number.

Name: ASUS Republic of Gamers G55VW-DH71 15.6-Inch Laptop

Processor: Intel Core i7-3610M 2.4 GHz Processor

RAM: 8 GB DDR3

OS: Windows 8

GPU: Nvidia GTX 660M 2G GDDR5

HDD Speed: 7200 RPM

HDD Size: 500GB

Runs at a cost of about $1200-1300.

Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AEW5HI/sr=1-3/qid=1357671348/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1357671348&seller=&sr=1-3

I have no skill or knowledge when it comes to building a PC. My budget is a bit limited until I get a paycheck or two. As of now I cannot afford this (I'm just shy of it by about $100) but I will be able to afford it next week.

Also found this one on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230416

Name: ASUS U47VC-DS51

CPU: Intel Core i5-3210M 2.5GHz

RAM: 8GB DDR3

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 620M

HDD Speed: 5400 RPM

HDD Size: 750GB

This one I can afford right now, and still have money left over for paying for other things. Runs at a cost of about $900.

Anyone able to give me any help here? I'm looking not only for a laptop for gaming now, but one I can use for a while without needing upgrades.

Lord Naarghul: The first rig will pummel the second. It's all about the GPU and the 660M > 620M. i7 vs. i5 will also help as Skyrim can be quite CPU intensive. Odds are the ROG has a faster HDD as well. Still, when you can afford it, I'd get either an SSD as the time is right and they're finally affordable.

Also 1080p will look a lot nicer than 1366x768, so I'd say it's well worth the extra cost as your Skyrim, among other games, will thank you.

It does have a faster one. I just forgot to list it in its specs >.> Lemme go do that.

EDIT: Yeah, my next major expense is going to turn out quite a bit less than I had imagined, so my next paycheck will allow me to afford the ROG, provided the price on the ROG stays as is. That being said, its price is still a factor. I don't understand the signifificance of having a SSD. What sort of benefit does that provide?
