Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread

Post » Sat Jul 09, 2011 11:47 pm

Seems I got skipped earlier in the thread. Anybody have thoughts on this setup? It's a dell xps 410. Kinda hard to upgrade.

Here are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
8600 GT
Vista 32 bit
4 GB Memory

Do I even stand a chance of playing Skyrim?

*I can play F:NV on all high settings with no lag at all.

Thanks!

I have doubts about GPUs like yours, though I think your CPU will suffice. What is your PSU? If it is even marginally decent, then at worst a ~$100 GPU upgrade will do IMO.

Edit: I wasn't looking at the top, just the specs. I googled your dell model and found http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps410/en/SM_EN/specs.htm, it says you could actually have a 375w PSU in there.

Furthermore, according to PCPer, an Intel x6800 and 8600GT took http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/EVGA-GeForce-8600-GT-Review-Mainstream-GPU-Power/Power-Consumption-and-Conclu. If you were to get another GPU with a similar power draw, then you'd be good. I want to suggest the HD5770, but reviews have it's power draw everywhere from 207w to over 300w. I'd take the educated guess that you'd be running no more than 250w @ load with a HD5770 at stock speeds on your system, though don't hold me to it.

Wow, my desktop is exactly the same except RAM, I have 2 gb of them. That will be enough for medium (the desktop, not laptop, that one is more like medium-low). My desktop can handle OB on medium-high, so medium for Skyrim would be it.

Depends on the resolution of your laptop display

is it 1366x768?

1024x600

1600x900

1920x1080

you need completely different cards to get playable frame rates at these resolutions

^^^The GPU isn't very good, looking at the benchmarks it doesn't do too well with medium settings in games not running Source.

Intel Core Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz
Windows 7 64-bit
GTX 260 896 MB video RAM
4 GB RAM

What setting will I be able to run the game on, do you guys think? Medium? High?

I haven't decided if I'm going to buy a new comp yet, since we don't know the system requirements yet, and because Skyrim perhaps isn't the most visually expensive game for your computer's hardware (I think it looks OK and I expect the system requirements to be around OK then as well, unless it's horribly optimized like previous BGS games).

If you scroll up to my most recent post quoting someone on their laptop, that was a separate thread and the other posts that went with it and their thread got merged with yours, but strangely it went the other way around. I would contact a mod if I were you

There was already a thread for all these kinds of "UNOFFICIAL WILL MY PC/LAPTOP RUN SKYRIM" questions, link here:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1206896-unofficial-will-my-pclaptop-run-skyrim-thread-1/

however, the link no longer works and it seems that the thread got deleted yesterday for some reason. (platform flaming perhaps?)

I suppose this thread could be considered Thread #2

Basically, something goofed up because post #127-136 was all a separate thread with the title of this topic

@ BootySweat: no no this IS the thread, the guys topic got merged into Arctic's topic, and was wrongly changed

No need to do that just message a mod to change the title back and tell them that merging another topic changed the title

I am not sure if I was clear, so let me know if you understand what happened :)

Basically posts # 127-136 was a separate thread and instead of merging it with your topic, your thread got merged into it instead by accident, hence the title change. :spotted owl:

That 560 Ti should do nicely.

Do you have a Q8300 or Q9300 and can you OC or are you locked out of the BIOS?

How about :
CPU Intel quad core 3.00GHZ
RAM 4GB DDR3 RAM(64bt windows 7)
GPU ATI Readon 48000 series(then is really the worst on my PC..)
Resolution: 1280 X 1024

Is it likely it can run on highest setting no problem? (I know they are just estimates, but curious.. it once was a pretty good PC but it is a good 2 years old by now..(other then the CPU, but even then it is only 3.00 GHZ do to me being to cheap to update the motherboard..)
