Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread

Whats the best video card to get that falls between $150 - $300...? I'm trying to run Skyrim with max settings + 2xAA at 60fps, and have a little room to add some visual mods later down the line and keep the settings maxed with 2xAA.

Radeon HD 6870, HD6950, or an Nvidia 560Ti.

Im really not smart when it comes to things like this, But I was wondering if http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-g6-1b39wm/16662272 would be able to run Skyrim? I HIGHLY doubt it, and since its a laptop, am sure I cant upgrade it like a PC. Any help would be very appreciated. If there is nothing I can do, I can still get my PS3 version, but I just wont to make sure

People have tried to make a thread like this in the past.....it never works out. And Canyourunit is a very inaccurate test. I wouldnt trust it for most games. Example:It told people that they could run Fallout3 with an Intel Integrated Graphics chipset. The Intel video chipsets only support shader model 2.0......Fallout3 needed 2.0b in order to run.

freaking intel graphics cards. Worst graphics cards ever. I had one on my old computer, I could barely run morrowind, despite getting the computer like 4 years after it came out.

but to stay on topic, I know it probably will but how well would you guess?

AMD Phenom II X4 820 Processor (4 CPUs), 2.8Ghz
6 gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card that apparently has 3,318 MB of memory according to dxdiag, but that seems huge

I have a 450 gts and can pretty well run everything except Metro 2033 and TW2(with uber sampling on) on Max Settings(Highest possible AA per game 1920x1080 res).
So don't be to worried about getting a 500 series, they are overrated.

Im going to say it probably can on at least low-medium settings. Not too bad of a laptop for the price.

If you already have a 400 series, yes. I'm upgrading from a 4830 to a 560 Ti next week, and it should be quite a leap.

I always wonder in such threads when people with enormous rigs ask if they can run a game: Do they just want to show off, or could they really be this oblivious to your specs while being able to afford a top gaming pc?

The only thing is possibly the CPU. Its only a Dual Core with 1.6 ghz.

Your graphics and RAM are fine. But the CPU is holding you back.

Since its a laptop, you cannot. But at least you'll be able to have mods.

I'd take lower quality graphics anyday, but my laptop will not support Skyrim. Dang Integrated Graphics :P

So I have to live with the Xbox 360 version until I buy my new PC at Christmas time.

They usually just want to show off. It's a nice "innocent" way to brag about your PC specs amongst the other weaker rigs.

Intel Core Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz
Windows 7 64-bit
GTX 260 896 MB video RAM
4 GB RAM

What setting will I be able to run the game on, do you guys think? Medium? High?

I haven't decided if I'm going to buy a new comp yet, since we don't know the system requirements yet, and because Skyrim perhaps isn't the most visually expensive game for your computer's hardware (I think it looks OK and I expect the system requirements to be around OK then as well, unless it's horribly optimized like previous BGS games).

Rams good. Card is an iffy for me but I'm pretty confident it'll run it medium to high. CPU is fine.

What's pretty well? And how are 500 cards overrated? A 480=570 470=560 etc, for the most part, and if you have a gen before the new gen cards then ya, it's not worth upgrading. But your 450 is roughly the same as my old 275, and I upgraded to a 570, and I could play most games maxed too. Night and day, I noticed the difference. Now I have every ingame setting and every control panel setting maxed, and get 60fps easily, and they games run smoother. Also my cards just as hot as my 275, but a lot cooler then a 480, but just as fast as a 480. So I don't call that overrated.

There is 4 months between now and 11/11/11 and that means 4 months of potential price drops. AMD may have at least some of it's next gen GPUs ...the HD7000 series, which are already showing up in AMD drivers. If you need it now, the best for $300 is either the a GTX 570 or a reference HD 6950 2GB which could unlock to a HD6970... you'll have to do some homework to find which ones still do this.

How about :
CPU Intel quad core 3.00GHZ
RAM 4GB DDR3 RAM(64bt windows 7)
GPU ATI Readon 48000 series(then is really the worst on my PC..)
Resolution: 1280 X 1024

Is it likely it can run on highest setting no problem? (I know they are just estimates, but curious.. it once was a pretty good PC but it is a good 2 years old by now..(other then the CPU, but even then it is only 3.00 GHZ do to me being to cheap to update the motherboard..)

There is 5 cards in the HD 4800 series [not taking into account 512 vs 1GB versions], the HD 4830, HD 4850, HD 4870, HD 4850x2 and HD 4870x2.

Your monitor is a relatively low resolution so that will help, but it is hard to guess without knowing. I think your outlook is better if you have 1GB of VRAM and if you have the HD4850 or better, then I wouldn't buy a new card now.... for the same reason as above, probably would grab the best $200 card if I was unsatisfied with Skyrim performance from what you have now.

That 560 Ti should do nicely.

Do you have a Q8300 or Q9300 and can you OC or are you locked out of the BIOS?

I have ''Intel Core 9300Q'', dont know much about bios.., never tried to OC..

Only 580 gtx instead of 590? You cheaped out.

And no hexacore either? Pfft.

(Tip: The hexacore thing was a a joke. You shouldn't use those for gaming.)

It will run Skyrim on medium to high settings easily based upon requirments of other new games. Skyrim will likely not require a super computer, if you can run the witcher 2 you should have no problems with Skyrim imo

Just previous experience with how our rigs handled other games. Any computer that exceeds the recommended requirements for Oblivion should do the same for Skyrim.

It's a completely useless thread. No one has a single clue how it will run on any system.
