Unofficial "Will my PC run Skyrim" thread #7

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 4:13 pm

The Radeon video graphics card closest to the 360 was was the X1950 ("Pro" model, I believe).

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=625&card2=466

The HD 5450 is well below that one in overall performance, although it does beat it in shader operations.

It wasn't designed for gaming, but it has acquired various aspect of the more advanced generations as time has passed, such as the many shader processors that the HD 4n00 and HD 5n00 generations added. It should be able to run an elderly game such as Oblivion, although not as well as the XBox360.

I installed version 11.7 earlier today, so am fully up to date with the software.

I'll be playing it on the 360, for the first 1-2 playthroughs but then will buy the PC version, when more mods are available. So I have plenty of time to upgrade my PC or even get a new one but as I mentioned in a previous post the graphics on my PC version are better than the 360 anyway.

Of the two options I would go for the 2nd setup. You won't need 8gb for gaming 4gb will be more than enough, so you can save yourself some money there. If you want to reinvest the money upgrade the i5 2500 to the i5 2500k.

You will be able to run Skyrim on High settings

Thanks for the advice!

You did not give us your actual GPU, just the chipset manufacturer. Please repost with your actual GPU listed. (Right-click Computer, select Properties, select Device Manager, open the Display Adapter list, and it will tell you there).

Steve: You might benefit from a touch more RAM (don't worry, RAM is easy), preferably a second stick the exact same RAM you are currently using to allow for Dual-Channel which will speed things up a bit, but otherwise you are in good shape.

Im pretty average with PC spec anolysis, but I can run Crysis 1 on medium/high settings, and Crysis 2 on almost full high settings on my laptop.

How will Skyrim fare based on that?

You mean Crysis 2 in full DX9 settings, or in DX11 + HD pack?

In any case, Skyrim should work OK for you.

I play on Dx9, though its capable of DX11, I believe.

Thanks for the help XD

Yes, you should be able to max the game quite easily with the 5850.

Yeah you can run Skyrim...

Why do you have DX10, but not DX11 with a DX11 GPU?

...and your GPU deserves a higher resolution monitor.

Just thought I'd get some opinions in.

AMD Phenom II x3 720 (OC'ed to 3.5GHz)
ATI Radeon HD 4850
4GB DDR3 RAM

It's like...two years old now.

You should probably still get high settings depending on your resolution. If you play on a low resolution you might even be close to maxing it.

How about this non-gaming laptop, think it can run on the lowest of low?

i3 380m @ 2.53GHz
2gigs ram
Video: Look at the i3 Lol!

I didnt buy this for gaming but it would be interesting to know if it could run it. I know I cant play BFBC2 on lowest settings, but that game is a bit more demanding than this one I would think.

I highly doubt it from this http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i3-380M-Notebook-Processor.37085.0.html it looks to be around the HD 4200 performance at best. If you do manage to get it to run I would think it would be very unplayable and unpleasant, and that is if it even runs. Also 99.9% of Laptops can't be upgraded or at least the GPU...Sorry.

That should be plenty, Nvidia themselves recommend a minimum 400W, but if you go that low any upgrade will require a new PSU, always give yourself some breathing room when dealing with PSUs

It should be fine with High settings, and as you surmise, fall just short of very High.

Neither one of those is game-capable as that is defined, although the 4250 is much worse.
