Unofficial "Will my PC run Skyrim" thread #11

Post » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:06 am

I had a thread a while back with regards to Mac's running Skyrim in bootcamp.
/snip

I'm toying with the idea of a new mac mini;

http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html

or alternatively a mac pro;

http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html
/snip

PS. As long as it's xbox360+ graphics, I'll be content :D

Many thanks,

If you get the mac mini with the 6630 it should beat out 360 graphics but not by a lot.
The Mac Pros are good, but the last poster was correct in saying an imac with the 6970 would be best for gaming. I'm not sure why Apple doesn't offer that one for the mac pro.

...not so max. Medium, perhaps, being 1366x768 (fairly low res nowadays). Are you waiting for new stuff to show up? (Sandy Bridge-E, Bulldozer, Nvidia GTX 6xx, HD 7xxx).

You want to run 3 copies of Skyrim at once...?

Or are you trying to expand your range of vision or..?

3 copies ... no lol
I want to run the game using the http://i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy342/Grumpbeard/TF2_Eyefinity.jpg feature of ATi , using 3 monitors , it looks pretty sweet , but IDK if this rig can handle it , I need feedback before I confirm my purchase ....

...he just wanna play like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3bpMk0Lp08&feature=player_detailpage#t=141s

And it'll run OK I think, if you can put 2 monitors in one card. The little I've seen about it (basically those maxishine videos) are with Tri-SLI.

I'm holding out till the new year. I'm wanting to wait and see what new products come out and how the prices of current items are affected.

I wish I had 3 screens and 3 top rate graphics cards |:

And I'm thinking of waiting to see how the HD6xxx's are affected pricewise by 7000s if they're released before Christmas.

By "all-in-one" you mean integrated in the mobo? Has it no expansion slots?

Everything is packed into a flat screen monitor, there is no tower. I haven't opened it up, but there is nothing about expansion slots or upgrading in the manual. I don't believe it is possible, as that is what I was told was the problem with the all-in-one PCs. I guess I'll pop it open and look, because I'll feel pretty dumb if it is upgradeable.

I've read 2 or 3 pages of this and I just can't take it anymore.
I just can't.

Some of you... just.. :dead:

The worst part is that most of your arguments are;
1) based on data and trends from at least 3 years ago, often closer to 6.
2) usually more dependent on the engine (ie; the game itself) than the hardware as pertaining to actual results (eg; number of cores you have vs what performance you'll get).

Some of the crap you guys have been peddling as facts.. or rationality.. Akatosh save me.

... BLAH BLAH BLAH...

To the OP:

Don't know if this is worth a quote, but it might be something to think about. Also I'll edit this up if needed.

Aside from that, I hope this helped some of you. Thanks for reading.

This was the worst post I have ever read.

Almost everything you have stated is fundamentally flawed. Suggesting that upgrading to LGA 1366 is the only way to go, being an effectively dead socket, replaced almost entirely by 1155, and soon to be replaced by LGA2011.

Suggesting that AMD is dead in the water when their latest chipset is yielding impressive results on last year's CPUs and next years CPUs (when they get round to releasing them) should be extremely impressive and affordable

Implying that spending more on video cards is the only way to go, ignoring the fact that a pair of mid-range ati cards in xfire will obliterate any single card on the market except possibly the 590 which costs at least twice as much.

I would suggest that no one heeds this person's advice as they clearly have not done any real research in to current hardware trends or performance.

I'm assuming you are playing at a very low resolution if you can play fallout 3 on high settings. If so then yes medium settings should be possible.

There's a 99,999% chance it's not upgradeable, so better don't even bother to open it... :)

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P8400 @2.26 GHz 2.27 GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family 775 MB

This is my laptop. I know, laptops aren't the best for gaming plus mine isn't exactly the most powerful but I figured I'd just go and ask to make sure. You think it can run Skyrim? I plan on upgrading the RAM to 4.00 GB soon, I have Directx 10, and currently I'm using Vista but I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7. If it won't work, then no biggie, I have a 360 and don't mind getting Skyrim for the 360. Thanks for any help!

Yeah you can run it, but I doubt the experience would be better than the 360. In this case, I would suggest getting it for your console.

Definitely get if for the 360 as you won't be able to get more then 5 fps at any settings on your laptop.

Wow .... ok , let me break the news to you gently .... no , your laptop .... uhm ...offers insufficient performance to run Skyrim on any playable Frame Rate , so yeah , buy it for your 360 ....

Any word on whether the nvidia geforce gt 340 will be good enough for 360-like or better playability?
