With a 300W power supply, is it even worth getting a heavy-duty graphics card?

I was looking at the GTX 570, but the thing pulls 216W...I'm not really familiar with how much power the CPU draws, but I imagine that pulling away 2/3rd of the power for the GPU alone will fry my computer. Any thoughts?

What do you think that can run it on?
And any ideas on what I should upgrade?

You will probably be able to max the game. I wouldn't upgrade the GPU as the CPU will just bottleneck it and I assume your CPU socket is outdated, but it doesn't really matter because that rig is fine for Skyrim.

Well if you didn't upgrade the PSU I wouldn't go any higher than an ATI 5670 for like $70, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=ATI+5670&x=0&y=0 If you did upgrade the PSU your options would be limitless only by size maybe, with the $300+ GPU's. However I'd let others chime in as I'm not super knowledgeable with desktop hardware as I am with laptops, so I wouldn't make a decision now. :tongue:

Anyway hope I helped a little bit. Also the ATI 5670 would probably get you medium settings, again I'll let others chime in to whether or not the 300 watt psu can handle it, especially with that CPU.

Do you plan on playing at 1080 x 1920, the 4200m is pretty much a 520m which will be OK for low/mid settings at a low/moderate resolution.

At that resolution you'll probably be good with a mixture of low/medium settings maybe a tad more towards medium. It seems to be on par with the 9500 GT so you should OK.

Sorry, but if you can run Skyrim, it will be at a low framerate at the lowest settings most likely, if at all.
I used to have an intel chipset, and Morrowind was slow on it. Oblivion was a choppy mess that made my system crash after 5 minutes.
If you can, upgrade, if you can't, you can still get it for the xbox or ps3 if you have one.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz (im curious if it would be worth an extra $40 to upgrade to a phenom II x6 at 2.8 GHz)
GPU: PowerColor AX6850 1GBD5-DH Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 (budget $130-170 if u can recommend a better card that supports DVI)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3

im thinking of getting a 60 gig SSD to install windows 7 + skyrim (for fast load times lol, oblivion was too long for me) and then having a 500 gig 7200 rpm for the rest of my files, will this work well?

i plan to get a 750W power supply, is that a good wattage?

But yeah, I think that sounds pretty strong. I don't think you should be worrying. I never have used two hard drives like that before though, but that does sound plausible.
