Unofficial "Will my PC run Skyrim" thread #14

Post » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:31 pm

I'm thinking of getting a new PC maybe early 2012, now I'm hoping that the new series of Radeon HD cards will be out (7xxx series) would this drop the price of both radeon and Nvidia cards, or just Radeon cards. Also by how much?

I'm thinking of getting a GTX560, is there a big peformance gain between the GTX560 and the GTX560Ti?

I'm on a budget of about £700 and as I posted before, my rig :

AMD PHENOM II X4 965 (3.40GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3) - BLACK EDITION
ASUS? M5A87: AM3+ PLATFORM, DUAL DDR3,SATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0
8GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)
1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 - DVI,HDMI,VGA - 3D Vision Ready
CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES? TX650 V2-80 PLUS? BRONZE

Are there any cheaper GFX cards that will be equal or better to the GTX560?

I'll repost this as it didn't get answered twice before(just making sure it doesn't get lost) ;)

If you're going to be playing at 1920x1080 then the 560Ti is the superior choice.

Hello again. Thanks for all the answers in the last post, they were really helpfull :)

I ended up buying this computer thought.

- ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3, Socket-AM3 ATX, AMD880G+SB850, DDR3, 2xPCIe(2.0)x16, VGA, DVI, HDMI, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0
- XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 "Dual Fan" PCI-Express 2.1, 2xDVI, HDMI, 2xmini-DisplayPort, 800MHz
- AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six Core, 2,8GHZ/3,3GHz Turbo, AM3, 9MB, 125W, Boxed
- 8 GB Ram

This computer can run the game on max, right? It cost £950, was it worth it? I am kinda bad at this computer stuff so I am just asking...
One last question :) I have 4 GB extra ram, is it space for that in the computer, would 12 GB ram benefit me somehow?

Yes it can. It was worth it but seems overpriced, it would obviously be cheaper if you built it. And you should only use the RAM if it's the same brand and model otherwise using it with the other RAM would be a no-no.

That graphics card is terrible for gaming. It's Xbox until you have money for a good graphics card.

Question, is it likely that Skyrim will need a 3.2 GHz processor? I know every PC user complains that the Xbox 360 is oh so outdated, but a computer with a 3.2 GHz processor is, in general, pretty friction' expensive.

It's only a tri core and it's because everything gets mainly dumped on the CPU with consoles :)

360.

You'd need a PSU & GPU... around $140 total after rebates.

PSU: $35

Okey, thanks for the answer. By the way, I am going to build it myself. I do buy it from Norway thought :)

That would be a good assumption. The Mobility HD 6370 is a poor gaming solution.

You forgot Corsair, as these run well with another brand (the only exception to this are extremely abysmal 3rd party RAM).

Just remember to update your driver each month for a few after Skyrim's release.

the only 'weak' spot would be the hd5770 but even so you'll get medium bordering on high with that depending on resolution.

Much to the contrary, actually, although it's more or less "Medium" at everything if it's closely following the reference examples and technical descriptions. Medium Quality settings, medium resolutions, medium frame rates.

It's a pretty high resolution so I guess it's Medium for you.

The main weak part is the ATI Radeon 3800, so maybe low or medium

Building a new PC and I had a question about sound cards. I haven't put a PC together in many years, and I noticed that most motherboards come with integrated sound now. I know that integrated video is a no-no, but what about sound? I'm getting an ASUS P8P67 Pro motherboard, and I'm going to be gaming on my HDTV using only the built-in speakers. Should I get a separate sound card?
