Unofficial World of Warcraft Discussion

Post » Thu May 27, 2010 6:05 am

ArP is only for hunters that go MM and are very, very geared. At least when you start raiding. AP is more for BM hunters, because pets benefit from their master's AP. Otherwise stick with agility and go survival :D That is what my hunter is, only I don't play anymore!

Well, it depends on what you do I guess. And what gear level you're at. But yeah, ArP is usually only for MM and top end gear. Still a vital stat, though. ;p
And ArP is so easy to get..I can't even raid ICC because I lag too much in raids over my connection, and I'm at 100% arp passive.

Anyone seen the new Darkshore preview on MMO?

Game designers Luis Barriga and Craig Amai sat down with us to discuss upcoming changes to Darkshore's landscape, the fate of Auberdine, and the challenges of redesigning an old-world zone from the ground up in this World of Warcraft: Cataclysm content preview.

Q. What was the original concept for the zone?

A. Darkshore was one of the areas hit hardest by the Cataclysm, so the main idea was to present a zone that had literally been shattered by those events. That was the approach we took for the revamp in terms of lore and aesthetics.

In terms of gameplay, our goal was to take advantage of the changes to the environment and use them to help address previous issues with quest flow. It was an opportunity to streamline progression within Darkshore so that the overall experience for players would be much smoother and require less running back and forth.

Q. Who will be using this zone (what levels/factions)?

A. Darkshore is designed for Alliance players, primarily night elves and worgen, from level 11 through 20.

Q. What is changing about the zone?

A. Auberdine has been destroyed; entire species of creatures have been wiped out, and the land has been torn wide open in multiple places.

The Cataclysm has also given the upper hand to a number of nearby foes, including coastal naga, Twilight's Hammer cultists, and opportunistic trolls of the Shatterspear tribe who seek to exploit weakened night elven settlements.

Q. What's happened to Auberdine?

A. Auberdine has been nearly razed to the ground, and what wasn't destroyed by the Cataclysm is now under assault by air elementals led by Twilight's Hammer cultists. The city is pretty much in ruins, but some survivors did make it out alive.

Q. With Auberdine in ruins, where do night elves go now?

A. Lor'danel. It's a small night elven town just to the north of the ruins of Auberdine.

Q. Without giving up any spoilers, what's the general storyline for this zone?

A. Darkshore has suffered immensely from the massive seismic ripples of the Cataclysm. The night elves are in survival mode, helping refugees and, wherever they can, fending off the advances of the Twilight's Hammer cult, the naga, and the Shatterspear trolls. Meanwhile, Malfurion Stormrage, recently returned from the Emerald Dream, has traveled to the epicenter of the destruction and called upon the ancient powers of Cenarius to contain it.

Q. What do you think is the most exciting new addition to the zone?

A. Without a doubt, the most exciting addition to Darkshore is the gigantic vortex in the center of the zone, where the devastating forces of the Cataclysm are being pit against the primal power of Malfurion Stormrage. Our amazing artists and level designers made us an epic energy vortex to serve as a visual centerpiece for the destruction, and it looks phenomenal.

Q. What goes into redesigning a zone like this?

A. Redesigning Darkshore required much more work than we originally anticipated. This was one of the first zones we tackled that centered on the effects of the Cataclysm, so we started out with the modest goal of adding a few themed quests and improving the general flow of the zone. As we piled on the visual changes, though, we soon discovered that a lot more manpower was needed to generate content that correctly reflected Darkshore's new landscape and lore.

Q. What was the most challenging aspect about implementing these changes?

A. At first we thought that we would be able to work with the majority of the original quests in Darkshore, but most of them just didn't make sense when viewed in the context of the zone's new storyline and direction. For example, chasing after corrupted wildlife and investigating washed-up threshers would seem out of place when everything around you is being ravaged by natural disasters, elementals, naga... and worse. Reaching the realization that we would basically have to scrap all of the old content and start from scratch -- and then actually bringing that plan to fruition -- was probably the hardest part of the process.

Q. What should players do or go see first?

A. Players should start in the town of Lor'danel and then play through the quest series naturally, slowly heading south. Higher-level players (levels 15 and up) may want to skip ahead and meet up with Malfurion Stormrage at the center of the zone, but Darkshore feels best if you experience the entire storyline from the beginning, as intended.

Q. What's happening at the Master's Glaive? The last time we saw it, it was mostly buried underground.

A. Twilight's Hammer cultists have recently begun to unearth the remains of Soggoth, one of the more powerful servants of the Old Gods, from beneath the Master's Glaive with the intent of bringing him back to life. Players will have to foil the cultists' plans before the new incarnation of Soggoth reaches full strength.

Q. Is there anything new at the Grove of the Ancients?

A. The Grove of the Ancients was shielded from most of the devastation caused by the Cataclysm, due in large part to the power of the ancient guardians residing therein. Protecting the grove required an enormous amount of energy, though, and as a result, most of the guardians have gone into a sort of slumber. Players will have to figure out a way to wake them and bring them into the fight to ensure the survival of Darkshore.

Thank you, Luis and Craig, for taking the time to talk about your involvement in reshaping Darkshore for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm!

Hah, naw, I'm on satellite internet. Our neighborhood is new, and pretty reclusive, so the digital cable companies don't come out here yet. Satellite is the only option. 1500 ms lat minimum at all times. That equals to about..a 1 second delay on abilities. Hitting an instant spell like..say Bloodthirst takes 1 second to actually register that you hit it. Really annoying..and that's just solo.
So, that being said, when I'm in a raid, the latency jumps up to about 2k..because of 9 others in the same zone as me, and I'm recieving information from all of them. Kills my lat. I can "sometimes" raid 10 mans, at night, when my bandwidth limit is removed (it removes the limit from 2 am to 7 am).
But when I'm in a 25 man, 24 others info being transmitted, I just shoot to like 5k lat, and then just run in place for about 3 minutes, and eventually DC.

Any advice for a new player? :P

Two guides here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Newbie_guide and http://www.wow.com/rookie/.

You can have up to ten toons on a server, and up to 50 max spread across multiple servers, so feel free to try new races and new classes until something really clicks. But don't be surprised if you change your mind later and come to like something else just as much.

If you do upgrade from the trial, you'll just need to get the base game of WoW, but I'd recommend also getting Burning Crusade (BC). That will give you access to also playing the Draenei and Blood Elf races (or at the very least, access to those areas), the Jewelcrafting profession, and let you get to Outland around level 60. Adding Wrath of the Lich King can wait until you're ready to head to the high-level places.

At level 10, you'll be able to allocate a Talent point every time you level up. Press "N" to see your talent trees, and it's a good idea to stick mainly with just one spec. If you want to learn more about each spec, there are lots of good websites that list common builds. If you choose to play a hunter, I'd recommend Beast Mastery at first, it's pretty newb-friendly.

A lot of players pick two gathering professions, like skinning and mining, so they can sell what they gather in the Auction House and start making lots of gold. You can't use the AH yet on a trial account, but you can start collecting things to save in the bank, in case you do decide to upgrade. Usually those players will wait until later in the game to pick up a crafting profession. Nothing says you HAVE to do it that way though, so if you'd rather work on a crafting profession after level 5 (when it's available to you), go for it :)

You'll definitely want to at least get First Aid and Cooking. Fishing compliments Cooking very well, since there are lots of recipes for the fish you'll catch. Of the other professions, if you take up a crafting profession, get the matching gathering profession as well -- for instance, since a hunter wears leather, you can take up Skinning, then use those skins for Leatherworking and make your own gear.

I'm kinda looking for something that can use either guns/bows and arrows with some sword on the side, or the other way around.

That would be Hunter.

Other way around would be pretty much Warrior or Paladin, mainly attacking with melee weapons, and using the ranged attack to pull mobs to you (as opposed to running to them and possible having to fight more mobs than you want). Nelfs can't be pallys though, so you'd have to make a dwarf, human, or Draenei (the latter only if you upgrade to include BC).

Don't worry about Armour Pen yet, because you probably won't find much (if any) during the trial. And even then, it'll come in much later.

For now, just use gear that increases Agility or Stamina, and Attack Power if you happen to find any (it's also rare in the early levels). Strength and Int are okay if they're included too, but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to add them (especially Str). Ignore Spirit, it won't do much for you.

OH! And have a go with the Horde too, mainly just to experience the Barrens before they're changed forever. Tauren might be a good substitute until the Worgen are available :D

Too many points in your shadow tree. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Anvilmar&cn=Thecount&gn=No+Way+Out. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Anvilmar&cn=Blameme has a build around pvp mobility dropping improved Mind Blast for a silence and a disarm. When I leveled mine up these two helped me out immensely. They are alts of people I used to run with.

TBH I hardly use it since I grind randoms a lot, so I never put much thought into it, but I can't imagine that the PvE build would be bad, since I like that mana regen skill from Disc.

Also I wasn't quite sure about the Primordial Saronite, but thanks for clearing it up. No wonder its very expensive.

Also I got a Tiny Crimson Whelpling! 2 hours of farming and voila! I'm going to sell it, but if I don't I'll use it on myself.

Well I looked in the AH but there weren't any posted, so foolishly, and not a little too hopefully I posted it at 2500, even though I doubt a smart shopper would grab that. Depends on how lazy they are.

Thott suggests 2800 for auction price, so IMO 2500 would be reasonable, given auction estimates are pretty pointless these days, and plenty of folks have that much disposable gold, regardless of server.

I once found the deviate hatchling, and sold it for 1500. Went within just a couple hours, so...

My god. I [censored] hate idiots. I literally cannot do a [censored] random dungeon for the last 3 [censored] days because in every [censored] one, we wipe on the first boss and then everyone leaves.
HELP.
THIS GAME IS HARD.

I hope it does. I scramble anytime I think of buying Artisan flying. Honestly it makes me queasy, the thought of grinding 4500 gold (yes, Horde Expedition rep or Thrallmar is a good way to save money) is sickening. I'm chilling in Boring Tundra though, for easy quests as a Spriest and grind Warsong Hold rep, which contributes to Horde Expedition. I know it wont last but its fun.

Update: It sold for 2500 gold.

You only need 4000 gold if you're exalted with Orgrimmar.

Yes it does. Best areas to fly in has got to be Nagrand, Zangarmarsh, Grizzly Hills, Howling Fjord, and Storm Peaks. Those places are awesome from an aerial view.

Stagnated on this game recently, can't find a guild that I feel at home in and I daren't PuG an ICC right now, will wait until just before the reset when my desperation has reached it's maximum. No decent guild seem to be recruiting at the moment, everyone is looking for Rogues!?!?

I'm pretty sure I'll play to Cata, may move on to try different MMO's after that. We shall see.
