Unofficial World of Warcraft Discussion Thread #11

If you don't think Cata is a vast improvement in terms of levelling, you are either so sick of the game that nothing will change your mind or insane. My experience with the Beta has been that the levelling process is far, far better than it used to be. It honestly makes vanilla and BC look like [censored] in comparison. Also, the revamped zones will be available to anyone, expansion or not. And that's an incredibly good move by Blizzard, considering that only 30% of people who get the trial actually keep playing, which is ridiculous, with these changes to old content I think player retention will rise signifigantly.

Quick question Urge, if you don't mind, are the starting zones still almost entirely aggro free? (new & old races)

It's not really a big deal, I'm just curious because it was one of the main things I noticed when I left WoW for a couple years then came back. All of the starting zones were aggro free, so those 'evil' (insert group you fight in starting zone) were all so passive.

I don't really mind it, aggro or no aggro, I just always thought it was silly. :P

I can't remember actually, and I can't get on the Beta to check. But if you're talking about the 1-5 zones, then yes I believe most mobs are yellow, though some of the 5ish mobs may be red. I honestly didn't notice that, I'm used to it since I've been playing relatively consistently for some time now, been a while since I took an extended break.

I didn't notice it at first either, but when I ended up rolling a new character I thought it was funny how easy all of the starting zones had gotten.

The videos I've watched of TotalBiscuits from the starting zones in the Beta, some mobs are passive and some are hostile. Just depends on what quest you're doing.

Well, they are starting zones, but what I saw in the human zone for example is that it now has at least one mob that offers a decent challenge for a new player without posing any real threat. The early quests, at least for the Worgen and Goblin also offer some very good quests that are fairly challenging for their level, and some awesome quests that involve vehicles or involve tactics similar to the ones commonly seen in raids. Overall it seems Cata will do a much, much better job at preparing people for end game content as you level.

Very true, and I'm not saying I mind them being easy as it certainly helps new players get the mechanics, I'm more just making fun of the game for saying, "Go kill this hostile group that's been causing us trouble," and then you get there and you can wander around and take your time with them, while they wander aimlessly and pay no attention to the rest of their group getting slaughtered by you. :P

I have seen some of the videos though, and its easy to see starting zones will be of much better quality.

So what? Who cares what these people think? if they expect you to play your class right and be prepared for what you're about to do by knowing tactics and having what you need, then they are completely justified, if not then ignore them or tell them to shut the [censored] up, nothing easier in the world.

Exactly what I was trying to say in my moonspeak language.

Ran into some winners last night in the LFD. There was 2 running around as "boyfriend and girlfriend." Think they was from an rp realm. They expected to get all the loot and tried wiping the group after the "girlfriend" died from standing in purple goo. If you ever run into these type of people save yourself five minutes and just drop group immediately.

So apparently the trial version only lets you get to level 20, that blows.

Yep, and you can't join guilds, level professions past 100, do much with grouping, or buy and sell in the AH. Considering what they do allow for the trial though, they've been extremely generous.

That cracked me up too the first time I went through the human starter zone after that patch. Personally I had fun sneaking into the vineyard to get the stolen graqes, so I noticed the change right away, and it struck me as very, very silly

So apparently Worgen mount was just datamined from the Beta. It's apparently not a mount at all. From MMO:

Update
07:00PM CEST - Someone very smart pointed out something very disturbing. Worgens already had Darkflight, a temporary speed spell applying a Mod Speed to the character. So, why did Blizzard add that spell in this build?

Running Wild - Drop to all fours to run as fast as a wild animal.

This spell doesn't apply a mod speed, and applies a "Mounted" aura to the player. It's a racial, and it's apparently a Level 20 spell. It also has a 1.5 sec cast time, like all the mounts spells. I don't want to say it yet, but that would explain why we never saw a model for the Worgen Mount.

Gogo Worgen mount? I find this very awesome.

Interesting. Should be sick rolling in a pack of Worgen. I may just have to join an all Worgen guild. :P

Interesting indeed, although that'll make Worgen the first race in the game to not have a race specific mount.

I know it won't happen, but I wish the other Alliance races could purchase that 'mount' when you're exalted with Gilneas. Feral Gnomes running on all fours would be too funny to pass up.

Oh yeah, I had some people in group once who were RL friends, now that's fine, I play with my RL friends all the time. Here's the thing though, one of them kept needing loot, kept standing in bad stuff and completely ignored me when I told him to get his act together, politely even. So I kicked him obviously, and then suddenly, his Warlock friend just went ape[censored]. He blatantly refused to do as we said, and he tried his best to make us wipe in the instance. That pissed me off, but it also got hilarious.

This warlock kept pulling enormous packs and...nothing happened :P He died, we didn't bother ressing him and my friend who was healing said "You're gonna need to pull more than that to wipe us!"

I'm only good at server first achievements when it comes to raiding. :( I have 2 on my warrior. But those achievements for professions, I bet hundreds will be trying for it.
Can you imagine how much gold they will spend..?

Don't think I'll be trying for any of those, but I think I'll be making my expansion's worth of gold by selling mats to those that are going for them at extortionate prices.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I did the same thing when WOTLK came out, and also BC. When the patch before TBC came out, certain mobs around where Karazhan was going to be put were level 60 something, took like 8 people to take them down. But we did, and they'd drop Netherweave Cloth. I sold a bunch on the AH for hundreds of gold, which was a lot back then. :P It was pretty fun.

I got extremely lucky with green weapon drops at TBC launch, so all of those people who were coming through at 58 - 60 without top end raid gear were buying them for insane amounts of gold (at the time) was getting about 70 - 100g for weapons with the good stats e.g: of the bandit etc.
70g is pretty much nothing now, but when I was leveling my way to 70 it was great :P

also, Beta servers have gone down, hopefully the new build is being deployed. This patch seems to be the start of the number balancing which is always good to see. Arms' mastery is getting an extra 25% weapon damage stuck onto it, and they might as well just delete the Ret tree for paladins. It has become so RNG based in Blizzard's attempt to give Ret something to do other than hit buttons as they come off cooldown that you can go for a whole fight without seeing a single Hand of Light or Divine Purpose proc.

Makes me sad, used to love my paladin :(

edit: Wow, Balance Druids sure have got a lot this patch. Might give one a try if I can get a premade character over.

I was messing around with the new talents yesterday, but the realms are down right now.

PTR is buggy as hell, so I'm not sure if it's even an accurate representation right now, but we did have some fun with the For The Horde achievement, until our raid group took a wrong turn in Ironforge that lead right into the practice dummies...yeah, we were fighting something like 20 IF guards and atleast 30 Alliance, it did not end pretty. :P

After that everyone quit.
