How do you do a controlled download? I thought it just started downloading and that's pretty much it.

Yeah, but if you hit cancel I'm pretty sure it keeps what you've already downloaded instead of starting over next time, I've been turning it off to avoid latency a couple of times. That should work just fine.

I'm actually more concerned with the background downloader. I don't want it downloading [censored] when I don't know it is and end up running over my bandwidth limit.

But yeah, you should seriously get the full game and level to 80 before Cata comes out, and then level again when cata comes out so you can see all the new goodies.

Yeah, then I got the demo again and found the dungeons. Playing solo svcks balls but group battles are fun. I just can't afford it and it looks like I won't be able too anytime soon, especially before the new expansion.

I just find the background downloader in the system tray on W7, not sure about any other OS you may or may not be using.

Anyone else not able to sign on? I just bought a gamecard, and after logging on and then going out, came back and now it just says "connecting" and after about 10 seconds "you have been disconnected from the server" and it just keeps doing that over and over. I was on earlier, so there's nothing wrong with my account or anything.

I have had problems like that since 3.3 I think it was. When it does that it's random but what I do is use the repair tool to clear up the problem. I only use the Check Files option.

Mine broke ages ago, there's a new client out but I never bothered downloading the new one. I've done a fair amount of testing and reporting and I've seen enough to know that I will be buying Cataclysm (Not like I didn't know that before, but whatever ), I don't feel the need to get back into the beta at this point.
