Unofficial World of Warcraft Discussion Thread #11

I hit level 20 with my Dwarven Hunter today. Is it really this repetitive all the way through? Is there no MQ or am I still at too low a level to get a taste of the story.... assuming there is one

It really is that repetitive all the way to level 80, I'm afraid. Go over there, kill whatever amount of enemies, collect whatever amount of quest items from them, return. In the higher levels there are some variations on the theme, for example instead of just using your own abilities to kill 10x [insert enemy type here] you'll fly over them and drop bombs, or get in a tank, or the enemy will be super-tough and you'll need to group with other players to kill it. But these quests are in the minority, the vast majority being bog standard fetch quests.

And when you get to 80, you'll need to run heroics over and over and over again to get the gear and emblems you need. WoW manages to cover up its repetitiveness well simply due to the sheer amount of things to do in the game, but ultimately it's an MMO, and repetitive grind is the nature of the beast.

See here's the thing, questin in Vanilla WoW and Burning Crusade svcks, sorry, but that's the way it is. Questing in Northrend is amazing, but the raid content is a bit lackluster. Cataclysm changes that though, questing in the low level zones is fun again, it's incredible how much it's improved.

That's why I advice against starting with WoW before Cataclysm is out, it's not a fair represantation of the game, simply because the oldest content is the worst, but the current content that most long time players are experiencing is great, as will the revised vanilla content in Cata be. I am speaking solely in terms of levelling and questing here by the way.

Questing in Northrend is definitely better than Vanilla or BC, but I'd say BC is a substantial upgrade over Vanilla as well. More innovative quest, the use of vehicles, bombing runs, etc, that all started with BC. Northrend is again definitely better though.

The thing I like about BC and Northrend are the useful quest rewards. You could pick one that benefeted your class.

Unlike Vanilla where you get a shield or something with some spirit and strength on it...

Haha yeah no kidding, the itemization really picked up with BC. Things actually started making sense..unlike plate bracers with stamina and spirit..you instead got spellpower and int, or agi/str, which makes sense.
Plus, the scenery helped a lot too. It was a lot more fun to look at. Outlands is honestly a beautiful place, with the exception of Hellfire Peninsula.

SFK is a fun instance. They are redoing it as a level 85 heroic in Cata though, it's going to be so fun. At least I think it's SFK..I'm pretty sure it is.

I've got to make it to atleast one level 80 before Cata comes out, that's my goal, I want to try and experience all of the old content before it gets changed for good.

That's a good goal, but it's easily rushed, and it doesn't have to be. What's your highest level character right now? Depending on the level, you should have well enough time to hit 80 before Cata comes out. A month+ is the estimated time, a month being the minimum. That's well enough time to hit 80, and still enjoy the experience and look at things and go "awww sweet". And trust me, there are plenty of zones that have the "awww sweet" factor, even in Vanilla WoW.

You are correct. I believe Deadmines is getting the same treatment, I did all the quests in Westfall in the Beta and the story behind the Deadmines is awesome! Seriously, I actually got bmmed out about killing VanCleef in vanilla, that's how good it is.

This is me: :)

This is me in SFK: :swear:

I hate hate hate that place. It's too cramped in there (I refuse to take another Tauren through there), and some of the worst group experiences I've ever had.

However, I can't WAIT to run the new Stockades. I don't care for that place either, just because it's so hard to see what's going on, but from what I've heard it'll at least be expanded into a proper dungeon, and end with Hogger :celebration:

Are Strat or Scholo going to stick around?

I loved Burning Crusade the most. Northrend started off good but the higher level zones svcked.

I'm not rushing myself, I'm trying to experience as much of the content as I can.

For instance, with my human mage I got to 39:

Elwynn Forest
Westfall
Redridge Mountains
Duskwood, a zone I really liked because of the spookyness
Wetlands, so. many. crocolisks.
Arathi Highlands
Desolace
Dustwallow Marsh

Now I'm on my 'main', who is my Draenei hunter, also level 39 and I've been doing everything.

Zones:

Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isle
Darkshore
Ashenvale Forest
and now Stranglethorn Vale, I love the jungle theme

I've made sure I ran every instance available to me so far, been doing some easy leveling, been pvping from the 6-9 slots of every level group, did Operation Gnomer, been trying to do as much stuff of the world events I can, ect.

I know I've still got ALOT to see though.

This is just great. I forgot my WoW password and when I go reset it, it says my first and last name are wrong. WTF?

Hmm, that's odd Galuf. I know there's a good chance you know what your name is, but is the name you entered the same name on your credit card? Because it has to be typed exactly as it is on your credit card.
Either that, or it's been changed by someone, meaning you got hacked. But I doubt it. :) Although it's possible..:ninja:

Don't use a credit card.

And it's telling me I've tried logging in too many times. Bleh.

I thought you needed to have your credit card info registered whether you intended to pay with it or buy pre-paid cards? Or did they change that?

Strange, I had to enter a credit card (My dad's) when I first got the game, even though I was planning to use gamecards. These days I have it on my visa taking monthly payments automatically, though I may freeze it untill Cata comes out, we'll see.

Yeah I was almost certain you had to use a credit card to register for WoW, even if you used game cards. I might be wrong though.

Hell maybe. I can't really remember. I wouldn't have a clue what credit card info I used though.

EDIT: Just looked at those new troll and worgen druid forms. The trolls are butt damn ugly.
