If you're lower level, do you still have to have BC and WotLK in order to actually participate properly?

I was seriously tempted to get back into WoW today, having beaten the addiction over 4 years ago, I was considering getting back into it all, just for the heck of it. But then I recalled that you have to pay to play so I was like, okay nevermind.

Im not too keen on private servers.

Private servers are against the EULA anyway, so you shouldn't be.

Anyway, when you say participate, do you mean by raiding? If so, no. For the most part the only serious raiding going on is at 80. There are some retro guilds out there and some occasional pugs to old instances for nostalgia that bring a couple of level appropriate players, but it's really not viable.

You can download both games from Battle.net as long as they are linked to your account, the CD's aren't required any more as far as I know.

The world changes for you no matter what, whether you have just vanilla WoW or every expansion all the way up to and including Cataclysm.

Consider the 'world change' part of Cataclysm just an event associated with the expansion pack that happens for everyone, and the level 80-85 content the actual expansion pack you're paying for, if that makes more sense for you.

So, after the release, it's vanilla WoW til you're 60, BC til you're 70, WotLK til you're 80, and now Cata til you're 85, except it'll all be in a completely redesigned world.

See, this is why Cata is the biggest expansion yet. Just the 80-85 content is already more than BC and Wrath offered initially. In addition to that, every player, expansion or not get's a ridiculous amount of remade content for free. With two new races to play with, new race class combinations and new raids and instances, this pack will be [censored] massive!

But anyway, you don't need the discs, they are useless as long as you have a CD key. Just copy the WoW folder from a friends computer and you're done. That's what I do if I'm behind on patches or something for some reason, I don't even know who has my original WoW discs any more, all I have is BC and Wrath lying around.

Or you can download the games from Battle.net as I said, so pick one depending on your connection or external harddrive capacity basically.

EDIT: By CD key I mean that the games are linked to your account obviously, you don't need to enter the key again because you don't need to actually re-install the game, just copy the files and that's it.

Also leveling a ele/resto shaman now. Just got to 70, I must say ele shaman is the most OP class I have played at this gear/level range. I rocked the 60-69 bracket at 69. I had the same Alliance playing over and over focusing me. Because if they let me cast...I had my lightening overload proc in their flag room and it crit the first time then I got another. Almost dropped 3 people in seconds.

Believe it or not, there's a level 1 troll rogue on my realm with the Explorer title. I'm not sure how he did it, but grats to him anyway.

On the subject of troll rogues, I've been playing mine again lately. I got him some heirlooms which has made made leveling him much more fun. I got a Balanced Heartseeker and respeced sub, now I can 2-shot mobs with a simple ambush and eviscerate if they both crit :hehe:

I sure would love to punch the guy in the face who still thinks Retadins are overpowered. Really I do, cause he just keeps getting his way and killing that particular talent branch with a death of a thousand nerf cuts...knock it off already!!! For that matter what is a resource bar? Lots of deaths, a way to stop xp gains, and some friends who summon with a warlock to places inaccessible on foot. First time I heard about toons like this, I thought it could only be from hacks until I learned otherwise.

I was having too many problems getting the patch to fully load, so I'm just reinstalling. Been at 33% for quite a while now, but nearly everything's downloaded so it shouldn't be much longer.

Finally hit 80 a couple weeks ago too, about damn time! So far I've caught up on a bunch of stuff I'd missed, gotten my onyx netherdrake and two mounts away from my albino drake, and run around a lot doing dailies. I'm hoping to start running Northrend dungeons finally and get out of all those greens, if I don't get distracted with even more alts :ph34r:

I really like what they've done with the interfaces and menu's. I don't really understand how the new Paladin thingy works but I'll find out later. Right now everything is kind shaking and kind of blurry, kind of like a bit of lag. Is anyone else getting this?

They get a new resource called Holy Power for one. I don't play a pala so I can't really go in depth. MMO-champ should have it all.

My ele shaman got better after the patch. The graphic on earthquake looks stupid but they didn't tinker with the spec too much, just enough to make the rotation a little less boring. I don't play one but apparently warriors got hit hard with the nerf bat.

I'm loving the changes to the talent system with regards to leveling abilities. Felguard at level 10? Dual wield for enhance shaman at level 10? Yes please.

Not too keen on the new spellbook, it's way too big.

I went and canceled for a bit until this mess with patches and addons get sorted out. Looked up my characters and a lot only have one professions at the most. If I have to retrain gathering professions on all my characters I might as well just say **** it and not resub.
