Unofficial World of Warcraft Discussion Thread #13

I'm somewhat disappointed with Cataclysm - I can see its just more of the same old game with a slightly shinier wrapper. The changes they made to Priest, Hunter and Ret Pally (the three I play most) have disappointed me - "focus" has ruined my Hunter and my Priest's mana regen just svcks - there's no other word for it. My Pally feels "neutered" to put it bluntly. Both BC and Wrath were much more entertaining at launch. My good friend in RL is back in the game after five years and I can't even get interesting in helping him. Meh - think its time to move on and quit spending $15 a month on this thing.

I don't know what spec your priest is but if it's healing you need to stack spirit for regen. Wrath went on so long people forgot what it was like to need regen since you could heal or DPS and never run out of mana. My main is a resto shaman and proper healing/smart DPS/good tanks makes the amount of in combat mana regen I have work(3034 mana per 5 seconds in combat).

Focus for hunters as far as my friend says, you just have to learn how to weave your shots and rotation together.

Mana regen problems regardless of spec or spirit stacked in a known issue and Blizz stated it would be adjusted in the future. I just tired of waiting as it was my favorite character.

Huh...must be priest only then, which is unfortunate.

I haven't run into the regen problem on my shadow priest. They seem to be doing alright. I tested it out on that unkillable Fire Elemental in Hyjal for about 30 minutes. I never dipped below 5k mana and sustained around 7k dps at 80. I haven't got the Archangel stuff yet so that shoukld help even more. But I have heard Holy and Disc have it rough with mana.

From 81-85 your mana cost on spells is going to skyrocket. My spriest friends have trouble with mana big time.

Can anyone recommend a good US realm, CST or EST, PVP, with either close to even or more Alliance players?

I'm looking to start up some Horde chars, after playing Alliance forever, and I'm not sure which realm to join. I was thinking Lightning Hoof, just to try out an RP-PVP realm, what's the difference?

I'm a Horde and my realm is Alliance dominated (Azuremyst), I could help you get started out.... except it's a PVE realm.

Whats the difference between PVP and PVE, just the fact that you can't attack characters in areas their faction controls?

You can attack them if they're flagged. You're pretty much safe from enemy player attack unless you attack a PVP player/NPC, are doing a PVP quest (like capturing an objective), are in an enemy city, or are in a PVP zone (like a battleground, Wintergrasp, etc.).

You can also choose to flag yourself manually, if you want people to try and attack you.

I think I'm going to stick with PVP, I'm so used to the random drive by killing and hassling other players while we're all questing in the same areas, I couldn't stand not being able to attack them.

Okay, lol. I just like the peaceful questing environment of PVE; if I want to attack players I just join a BG queue.

Dragonmaw US, however, it's PST realm time(and i am on east coast as well). Good realm, decent population on both Horde and Alliance however it is Horde dominant. My guild is mostly east coast minus the founders(all in Hawaii).

Oh, and it's PvP.

I forget it's either Kil'Jaeden or Illidan that's one of the few Alliance dominated pvp servers. Most servers that have more Alliance tend to be PvE. PvP realms tend to be Horde territory. Although at least on Cho'gall(PvP) I haven't got into one fight with Alliance since the expansion. Alliance are like sewer rats on there.

I was thinking, maybe we start a terminology FAQ near the top? I bet a lot of people that pop in have no idea what we are saying.

I rolled an orc mage as soon as I could in the pre-Cata patch. It's 85 now and my new main character. Coincidentally mages have become the new "hero" class this expansion due to Frost deep freeze and ice lance spamming. I play as Fire though, the mechanics are by far the most fun out of all the mage specs with the cornerstone being scorch-casting while moving.

Nah, my vote is for enhancement shaman. I am MS resto and I got a bunch of heroic enhancement gear(bought the rest from faction rep mostly 346/333) I am tearing people up as enhancement. Getting 30k+ lava lash without 5 stacks of searing totem on target.

"focus" has ruined my Hunter

I agree, it seems I could get so much more done when my Hunter had mana, PVP speaking, and now it seems so sluggish. Maybe it's just me having to relearn a rotation, but I went from being in love with my Hunter to wishing I had leveled a different class this high.

I respec'ed survival to try it out.

I left Deathwing some cake last night, and he rewarded me with a copy of Cataclysm :celebration:

Rolling a goblin rogue right now, and damn is the hot rod hard to control.

Has anyone else had trouble completing the Cata quest: "Visions of the Past: The Slaughter of Biel'aran Ridge"? Seems to be bugged :( I cannot start the quest "By Her Lady's Word" as no-one is offering it.

I think hunters are a lot more fun now. They don't even use magic, mana and intelligence was a stupid stat for them to have.

Agree, ran with a 85 hunter doing 20k initial DPS(15k sustained) on bosses in Heroic HoO, you just have to learn you "weave" your shots together now so it's a fluid rotation.

I don't mind the PVE side of the things, I guess this is just a complaint from the PVP side from how I used to play. I could spam arcane shot all day in a big fight with mana and kite more than one person, where as with focus if I get into a fight with more than two people I can probably kill one but there is no way I can kill the second one, cause my focus isn't recharged and none of my shots work except the ones that I have to stand still to fire and they take too damn long.
