Unofficial World of Warcraft Thread #10

Can you elaborate on the new rune system? I've heard nothing about it. What's different? Does it allow for more smooth gameplay?
And you call that poor gear? 0.o

Runes refresh a lot slower which seems bad at first, but they doubled the weapon damage percentage on all strikes and lowered the rune cost of your trees main ability (Obliterate for Frost and Scourge Strike for Unholy). Plus, the more haste you have the faster your runes refresh. With the haste I currently have on beta (~600 - 700) runes are refreshing as fast as they do on live which is making for some spectacular burst. 32k Obliterate crits with 20k Frost Strikes as filler.

Also, diseases are lasting for about 50 seconds with my current spec which means I only ever have to worry about using up 1 Blood rune on a Pestilence refresh every 48 seconds to get the most out of the DoT's. Mastery rating for Frost is also a really attractive stat, more RP generation and higher frost damage (in my opinion, this is the best mastery of any class). Obliterate for me is generating about 20 - 30 RP which fills your RP bar by the time you've used up your Death runes, allowing you to spam the hell out of frost strike until your runes are back. (not sure if this is a bug or not, but the free Howling Blast's from the Rime talent are generating RP, which is unusual as RP only comes from abilities that cost runes)

Sorry for the awful grammar in that, getting pretty tired.

Awesome, that sounds great. Thanks for explaining it for us.
32k Obliterates? Very nice..I played frost for a while but my gear was lackluster so I just switched to Blood and I do about 6k dps in 25 mans, not including ICC so I don't get a dmg buff.
My DK is pretty much just as geared as my lock, both are sitting at just over 5k GS (like 5030 etc) and they both can push out 5-6k, which isn't bad for scrub alts I suppose.
I'd like to raid on them, but my connection doesn't allow me to do 25 mans very often..
I'm pretty much done with my Warrior, I have everything I want on him and the rest is just semantics, I could gain a few K's in DPS but it's not worth it to me honestly. Just waiting for Cata..

I know how you feel with the 25 man's. At the moment my connection is barely lasting enough to keep me online for 10 minutes without disconnecting, given up raiding until I either get a new phone line put in or Cataclysm comes out. Whichever comes first. Now that addons are allowed on the beta I'll download the latest patch and see what kind of numbers I can get as Frost in one of the new instances.

From what I can tell though, tanks are going to have to work extremely hard until Blizzard give DK's a threat dump (build it into Mind Freeze please :( ). I've not done an instance yet where I've had a tank that can keep threat off Frost DK's and Warlocks of any kind.

I can't even begin to imagine the kind of crits people will be getting in tier 11 if the damage stays un-nerfed.

Where you on an RP server when that happened? Because if not, that guy can just shut his damn mouth honestly. There's a reason RP servers exist.

Actually yes, most of my toons are spread between two RP servers. Neither are the hardcoe RP servers though, but even then, walking everywhere and being IC every moment you're logged on aren't requirements for joining an RP server. If they were, the servers would be nearly empty.

Ah, well still, no reason to get pissy because someone's running. Allthough he may also have been in character and simply told you not to run around, like someone would in real life honestly...except they wouldn't do it with telepathic pink text.

Yeah, kinda made me giggle because he was another troll, and speaking with a very broken accent. I'd just ported to Org and was heading for the FP when he whispered. For all I know, he went to play hall monitor on the people jumping their mammoths off the bank

Could someone please remove my characters from the OP? Privacy issues :P

I caved in and ground some emblems to get the plate heirlooms. I've stuck them on a pally which I'm having a lot of fun leveling. The 20% extra xp is definitely noticeable. I'd originally started a warrior but I got it to level 26 and decided I just didn't like playing it so I deleted it and made a paladin instead.

I've found that I get confused with classes which have a lot of melee abilities but when it comes to casters with a ton of spells I can play them with ease. I'm not sure why that would be, but there you go.

Nope, nothing. The client has been pretty broken for me so I haven't done anything in weeks. I also have very little time with school and trying to maintain something resembling a social life.

Yeah, kinda same thing here. Live server is boring for me atm, I got "meh" gear on my Lock and I'm content with that, so playing is kind of like..queue for heroic dungeon..yay..kill boss..yay..sit in dal making fun of idiot deathknights with mp5 gems for good runic power regem..yay..
That, combined with the fact that good ol' Betrayer has a female interest now, not really caring too much atm.

Sitting at 26 right now, having alot of fun leveling my hunter this second time around. Going to try and get 30 tonight, and be somewhere close to Stranglethorn.

Might stop at 29 and PVP for awhile though.

Here's my http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dragonmaw&cn=Hanibalecter after doing some work on him. Still having a hard time replacing my necklace and trinkets. I will get the 50 emblem one, but I need the Needle Encrusted Scorpion trinket as well. I'm also trying for the 1.50 speed Liar's Tongue sword from H HoR so I can roll combat spec with Quel'Delar as my slow main hand weapon.

Started the wipefest on Lich King in earnest. Got him down to around 50% though. People can't seem to get out of the black circles and val'kyr's drop people off the platform.

Yeah MrDarkSim, the LK fight is very RNG. It kinda has to go your way in order for you to get a kill. Kinda svcks, apparently Lk 25 man heroic is so RNG that even the best of guilds still wipe on him a lot even if they all have done it before.

What race has the better opening quests? Im thinking of playing the demo because Im tired of my games right now. I wanted to get the most out of my experience so any tips and general info for a beginner would be great.

I like the undead quests. But I've only played the beginning of the Human and Undead questline.

Do you prefer Horde, or Alliance? For Alliance, the current starting zones for Gnomes/Dwarves is extremely lackluster. Humans have a pretty decent starting zone. Night Elves have a nice one too, although there are a few quest to be avoided. Dranaei is just..idk. It's very red. That's all I'll say.
As far as Horde goes..Taurens starting zone will make you want to kill yourself with all the running around. It's basically a huge open plain with farm animals in it spread across what seems like miles. Very boring and dull. Orc/Troll starting zones are ok. Undead starting zones I cannot comment on, as I've never been an Undead. But Without a doubt the best starting zone in the game is Blood Elf. They have the best 1-20 experience in the game IMO, and most others think the same thing as you'll usually see most of every other race in the BE starting zone doing those quest because they are so much better designed than any other horde race.

If he's playing the trial, he can't play as a belf. Unless he dls the demo for both the original+BC.

Ah, didn't think of that. Well...then either Human or..Orc/Undead I guess, since you say undead is fun, I've never done it.

Blood Elf and Draenei are both that way. Blizzard specifically made their zones smoother and more efficient as to where quest are and what they have you do.

The last time I played as Undead was a year or two ago but I don't remember many quests that were a pain so I think he should be fine.

Wyatt, I guess I just don't enjoy Tauren starting zone because it's extremely monotonous. It's just boring to me. But I mean, if taking 10 minutes of running in between quest is your thing, then you might enjoy it lol.

Well, I like the way they look and the description make me think they are the native americans of WoW, witch I like. But I wanna get the most out of it because its only a 10-day trial.

Lets see, out of starting zones I would say Forsaken is the most fun. That's out of the vanilla races. If you throw in Draenei and Blood elves than Draenei wins.
