UnplayableUnwatchable on 21:9 monitor

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:22 am

I'm on a 21:9 ultrwide monitor and I can't get myself to start playing the game the way it is now.

Besides the fact that there is no option for a 21:9 resolution the way it is now I have to choose between either a windowed version on a fairly small part of my monitor which looks poor with my entire desktop around it.

Or the full screen option which has 2 problems. First off, in the options panel as soon as I deselect windowed mode the list with resolution goes blank and I can't select a resolution at all. And second when I start the game this way, what apears to be a fairly low resolution image stretches out over the entire screen, making it even worse. I would at least expect a fixed aspect ratio of 16:9 with black bars on the sides...

Please look into this because this is no way to play a blockbuster game like Fallout anno 2015...

If your using an nvidia card you can go into nvidia control panel and make it so it doesnt strech the image and will put the black bars there for you.

What are you referring to in the nvidia panel?

I used to do this for older games. It made it so that if I played a game that was say 640x800 on my 1920x1080 monitor it would only display 640x800 and every other pixel was black. Otherwise it would stretch the image to 1920x1080 and look like crap.

In the Nvidia control panel go to "adjust desktop size and position" in the left column menu. You should see a number 1 with your monitor. Below that is a number 2, this is where you will do what Im talking about. On the scaling tab in the number 2 section click the third option, "No Scaling". Below that it says "perform scaling on:" with a drop menu. Choose to do it with the gpu first. Below that is a preview image of a monitor with a screen. Use this drop down menu to get an idea of the results. So if the highest res your able to run the game on is 1080 choose that in the menu to see how much screen will be used to render and what will be black. Might want to tick the box that says overide scaling set by games. Anyways mess around with it until you get results you like. Dont forget to hit apply in the bottom right corner. Hope this makes sense and helps. Will be up for another hour if you have questions.

Just reread ur original post. This might not help you if you cant even select a resolution in full screen. Hopefully it helps anyways.

Ok, I've tried everything and I can't get the game to run using 21:9 aspect ... my native resolution is 3440x1440 ... how can a next gen game not handle varying resolutions on a PC?

I've tried editing the .ini files but something is overriding it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit - found the solution ...

That solution won't fix the stretched HUD though.

Nor does it fix the other graphical bugs that manifest when 1440p is forced, like the 'dark box' on the lower half of the screen: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544670-either-4k-resolution-or-gtx-780-ti-issue/

EDIT: Fix has been found for this bug, now. Refer to linked thread, above.
