Unrealistic Jump Animations in Oblivion, what about in Skyri

i agree to an extent... but honestly if you want realism why are you playing a fantasy rpg?

Sure better animations would be nice, but i always play in 1st person so it wouldn't matter much to me unless they give NPCs the ability to jump. I know how bad it looked in Oblivion and i wouldn't want to see Enemy NPCs jumping up rocks to get me if it looked as bad as Oblivion.

As for jumping Height, I want to jump a more realistic height, but if we still can't grab on to ledges then i want to be able to jump a bit higher.

My question for grabbing onto ledges is, how will NPC's be able to hit you with their melee weapon?? would a new animation be added to hit characters hanging on ledges?

I like being able to jump high. But the animations need to be better. I'm not counting on them being fantastic though, but perhaps a bit better.

Maybe, just maybe, Gravity is quite a bit lighter on Nirn then it is here on Earth. Think of that?

Lol don't even try to make those "explanatory excuses"

If that were the case trees and vegetation would look vastly different and so would all architecture. This isn't about shoddy explanations it's about making the game better and more fluid.

fantasy setting does not imply fantasy game mechanics.

Why not make everybody have arms and legs 20 feet long and make them run at 200 km/ph, I bet that'd be pretty fun. After all, any form of realism is just not fun in the slightest.

My opinions only apply, assuming that climbing/ledge grabbing is implemented. if it's not then I don't care about jump height. BUT IF better movement mechanics are implemented, then there's no reason to have the moon jump anymore.

Better animations, slightly less height, but with a high agility or what ever skill, then you should still be able to jump a metre or 2

Wishful thinking, unless somebody else stated that it is in game. Not that I stated it in my post.

Part of me really does expect climbing, though. It's a mountainous province, if *climbing* a mountain is just glorified walking I'll be fairly disappointed. The jump height in oblivion was just atrocious IMO. I like jumping to actually feel like jumping, not shooting up in the air with a jetpack, if you can climb ledges, and scale walls then all the better to go along with a more satisfying jump.

i would prefer oblivions to fallout everytime i would see me jump one leg out never switching was sort of irritating after i while

This made me think. I bet when they were creating the new engine they had to come across the question "should our jumping animations be better/more fluid?". I'd bet that this is one of those things that people criticized enough to change it.

The trouble with the jump animations in Oblivion and both Fallout games is there's no anticipation. Try jumping without bending your knees first; it can't be done (unless you have very springy ankles) - consequently it looks and feels weird. I don't know if it's a limitation of the Gambryo engine - it can't play a run and jump transition at the same time - or it just never occurred to the Beth and Obsidian animators. Hopefully they'll fix it.

The jumping distance never bothered me it was just the animations. I don't want it to look like I magically float off the ground with everything about me staying perfectly still. Another thing that bothered me was that you could switch directions while you were in mid-air. I've tried to do this and believe me, it doesn't work

Have you tried to levitate and throw fire balls out of your hand too

I chose the first option, but I would have chosen the second option if I was more sure we could ledge grab.

I sure hope the jumping animation will be a lot better than it was in Oblivion. It just looked unrealistic and boring.
The height didn't bother me so much, until you reached 100 on Acrobatics AND wore some equips that enchanced the skill even higher, then it began to feel like I could jump to the moon.

I actually like that in Oblivion, with enough skill points invested, your character can outrun a horse a jump over a giant boulder-sized rock. There is this illusion going around that making a game hyper-realistic = more depth, when in many instances such as this you are only making the game less fun. TES are fantasy games after all, not simulators.

I'd like to see jumping become more realistic too. Though, it wouldn't kill me if they didn't change it much.
I'm pretty sure they've overhauled it since the walking and sprinting have been animated more naturally-- it only makes sense to do jumping too.

EDIT:
The thing I'd really like to NOT see ever again EVAR, is jumping off the surface of water at level 100. It's like they couldn't come up with a good perk at the last minute, so they threw in some ridiculous one.

That happens when your acrobatics and athletics are super high. Has nothing to do with being level 100.

Actually, everything had the same gravity. Also, gravity is not affected by mass.

A lot of the problems with jump animations is that they need to react to the ground for it to look believable. Now, hopefully that can be done using Havok Behaviour.
