I couldn't be happier, not with a real game that somebody made. The games you could imagine in your head are better, but you don't get to play them.
Just opinion of course; some stuff just doesn't bother me, I don't give a damn if there are a load of unfinished quests that I didn't want to start, for example, while I can see how it would annoy the hell out of some. Maybe I am too easy to please. Or maybe they made a great game, but could never counteract the baggage that comes with making the fifth in a series that has grown from niche to blockbuster.

Completely and utterly love Skyrim. The quests seem more handcrafted, especially the daedric ones. I have only done two of these, but they are quite cool. Oblivion was very good too. And if you tried to close as many gates as possible, it was huge game. I personally cannot wait to see what big expansion is planned for this game, like Shivering Isles was for Oblivion.

So someone posts to you a way to find the "randomness" you're looking for, and you ignore it?

I've tried, but yesterday i was about to restart oblivion...

Spot on anolysis there zen, everyone has a perfect game in their head, and I think that's where the problem always lies.

Im just suprised to see people prefer oblivion over skyrim. I could understand it if your complaints were no spellmaking or smaller cities, but your complaint is skyrim is linear and not random? WTF man I don't get it.

I think Skyrim is a huge advancement in the series as far as aesthetics, cinematic quality, perks ect., but there are somethings I miss from earlier TES games like more spells.... which doesn't really matter anyway because of mods lol tbh all TES games were a bit bland in the vanilla version yet I still had fun with them, except for oblivion, too little content and voice actors combined with simple dialogue ruined it for me. Skyrim is like Oblivion with the simpler dialogue but at least voice acting is decent unlike in oblivion where no one had any emotion or anything.

You always get complaints, the Skyrim complaints are a very vocal few, but not a patch on Oblivion when it came out in it's full disappointing glory!

I am extremely satisfied. I like how Bethesda listen to the major complaints about the previous titles and fix them or adjust features.

 agreed.

I don't know what to tell ya, OP. svcks to be you. I'm enjoying this game. Though I've never played Morrowind yet, I'm finding Skyrim's got more depth than Oblivion, and that's mostly what I asked for. yea, there's stuff I wish were in the game, but overall I can't stop playing Skyrim. It's a drug.

I want the branching, intricate quests of Daggerfall, the vast alien-ness of Morrowind, the quirky quests of Oblivion and the new shinies of Skyrim. And the absence of bugs of, errr... :P

... So I vote future TES. Way to go, Bethesda. Always leave 'em wanting more. :lmao:

Morrowind had no dialogue, just a wikipedia of key words that every NPC in a town repeated. Oblivion had a barebones yes or no (sometimes not even a no) dialogue system, SKyrim has an emotional dialogue system which gives the appearance of more options, but probably hasn't really, but perception is everything, and it's the best so far. Skyrim has characters with personality for the first time, and that's crucial. I laughed when I paid for the assassin to be released from the dungeon of Whiterun, and the prisoner says ' the ransom is paid now release me, and one guard comes over and says 'did someone speak.' And then the other guard comes over and says ' oh dear I seem to have forgotten where I put my keys.' Classic!

I do have to agree with the OP (to some extent, at least). For me, the monotony and feeling of "been there done that" in this game is really hurting everything it has done even remotely right. I don't think I'm even half away through the MQ in addition to my list of uncompleted SQ's is still bigger than the list of completed ones, and I can't get myself to push forward but about 20 mins at a time (and then have a couple of days pause) before everything starts to feel indifferent and bland again.

The more I play, the less happy I am with the in-game map. I'm all about exploring and not only does the map not show where my character's gone from where she hasn't, it strikes me very much as a form over function solution. 3D is way cool and popular now, but the choice to use a photograph instead of a drawing seems wrong to me. When I think of a map, I don't think of a picture.

I'd be more disappointed with the other steps Bethesda has taken to make sure no player ever gets frustrated or annoyed, ever, by removing the chance to fail when casting a spell or making a potion, if they hadn't already removed those elements when creating Oblivion. I really liked the feeling of improving, by seeing growing successes in the skills my character tried to improve, something that's now gone for good.

I love the game. Could it be better? Sure it could, and sure it will when the modders add all the missing parts.

Complaints? I have an idea. Play some new vegas! You have a challenge when you're a 20 and you still have trouble with the deathclaws

lol yea I forgot I hadn't played vanilla Morrowind in awhile, I had a mod which got rid of alot of the generic dialogue (benefits of no voice-acting and goes to show how far mods can go), In any case I never looked at TES series for intense roleplaying with many dialogue options, was more about adventuring. Oblivion however was VERY barebones I agree Skyrim at least adds a slight appeal to some of the dialogue.

I think part of the problem is people are comparing vanilla Skyrim to a completely modded Oblivon which isn't fair at all, Compare Skyrim to vanilla un-patched no dlc Oblivion and then say which one is better. I can only imagine what will happen with Skyrim and there are a lot of things I want to do to the Dragon flying script, be a nice challenge. Adding more flying creatures would be awesome imo, hope Bethesda keeps their flying script and uses it with new games TES, Dragons or not. Skyrim has the best core game mechanics of all the Elder Scrolls games.

Plus I respect almost any game (bad or not) which at least supports their modders unlike my experience modding the Total War games (ugh).

I think some folk need to get out and explore the skyrim world in more detail, I'm on my third character and still discovering new things and places, it goes much deeper than I think some folk realize.

I am very satisfied.

Will I go back to the older TES? Of course. Morrowind and Oblivion are incredible games. Two of my top 3 favorite games of all time.

But Skyrim is better than both of them in virtually every way.

Top 3 games of all time:

01. Skyrim
02. Morrowind
03. Oblivion

Fallout 3 rounds out the top 4, and then enters the next tier of awesome, but not as great as Bethesda, games.
