Unsatisfied with Patches & Communication

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:05 pm

This topic was created in the hopes that dialogue can be opened with either GSTAFF, the FNV Dev Team, or possibly even Senior Producer Jason Bergman.

For months FNV has suffered from bugs, performance, and stability issues. But more importantly it has also suffered from a severe lack of communication from any Bethesda official in the support forums for all three platforms. After months of little to no information between minor patches a long awaited comprehensive patch was finally released today. However it is not the comprehensive patch that was directly promised by both GSTAFF and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125221-please-read-from-the-teams-at-obsidian-and-bethesda/page__view__findpost__p__17456918.

The patch only contains a few minor fixes and weapon balance changes. There are still http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1153912-fallout-new-vegas-bugglitch-list-v3/ that have gone unchecked for the past 6 months. When asked in Bethesda's own blog why this is the case, the direct response from GSTAFF was the same line users on the support forums are given every time:

gstaff
We already have another update in the works. As there’s more details to share… we’ll let you know.

My question to any official Bethesda employee that maybe reading this, is why do you continue to brush off or ignore everyone that just want to know when FNV is finally going to be "fixed." Things are well past the point of hiding the fact that FNV had a rocky release in terms of game performance. Can you please just be open and honest with us on when you believe that the issues many are having will finally be addressed? All we really want to know is what you intend to fix, and by when do you think it will be ready? Or can you at the very least keep us up to date more often, and not just with "more info coming soon" but with actual dialogue? Other major companies are willing do this in their support forums, why can't you? Please stop playing with the hopes and patience of so many.

If others feel the same, please add to this topic.

This.

Not only have my problems (if I even had any to begin with) been fixed, but now the game actually runs better for me and the gameplay balances are starting to get so good that I may not even need to use an overhaul mod anymore. Obsidian has turned an already great Fallout game into an almost amazing one. I can't get enough of New Vegas.

My only complaint left with the game is the quality of textures, but nothing can be done about that and the textures have to be this low so it can run properly on consoles anyway. Besides, there are some hi-res texture packs out there created by modders that make the game a sight to behold.

Not just ^^this^^ but also one has to take into account the potential that some bug fixes will require a fresh playthru. Yes, I know, these requirements are NOT preferable; but it is sometimes needed as some scripting on previous saves may just be what is affecting your gaming experience. Just like taking in this patch with a save with PC mods, some scripting issues may occur.

Knowing that they're working on patches is good enough for me.

You know, they could just not say *anything* to us. Not even: "something coming soon."

:sigh:

It's a real shame that no grammar policing is allowed on these forums. People might learn a thing or two. Oh well. Pointless statement on my part.

:sigh:

Well, someone will always have some problems with some game.

Nothing short of completely exchanging the engine will fix some of the bugs - and probably introduce some new.

Hi :icecream:

As http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125221-please-read-from-the-teams-at-obsidian-and-bethesda/page__view__findpost__p__17456918, there's a lot of changes with the most recent update -- it's a big update. The point of my blog comment was simply that we're not done making updates and we're still monitoring these forums for reported problems.

The teams at Bethesda/Obsidian are trying to make as many fixes as possible, but there's definitely priorities they have to make. What's the top priority right now? As many of you know, there were issues with the Xbox update that went out today... so guys are working on a fix for that (the fix is already in place... it just needs to be deployed).

There's also cases where issues have been fixed, but the player needs to roll back to earlier saves (or even try a new game) to get the most out of the updates.

Can you answer as to why there is little information regarding the new DLC? I fail to see why info relating to it refuses to be released other than some Trophies and leaked screenshots. Unless this is Bethesda's decision (in which case I look like a [censored]) I am severely disappointed in the lack of details regarding the new DLC that everyone on these boards clearly acknowledges.

Better only some information and feedback by the part of the Beth and Obsi community rather then nothing , some people had save issues and DLC issues, they heard us, some people have issues with the new balance of weapon, they answered why they change it, thats enough for me, I ve never been in a forum like this, where the own members of the company talk with us, sometimes at the point of being of topic :P

look Bethesda I've had this idea for a while and i think it would fix most of your problems, let the modding community fix these bugs, allow users on the 360 to access modding communities like newvegasnexus.com, thereby both fixing all little bugs that you can't be bothered with (apparently) and enhancing game play for everyone, heck you can even moderate the mods coming in and choose which ones you'll allow and which you won't. for example i would love it so much to have the weapon mod expansion on my 360 version, accompanied with all those other little mods like a perk every level, both allowing the people who play the game play it like "they" want and i'm guessing far fewer complaints.

after all didn't you create this game to give it's players a joyful experience and not to piss them off.

I believe that it's Microsoft that has the power over mods on their XBox platform and they won't do it, same goes for Sony and the PS3. It's a console not a Windows box.

Well, everything I have to say is summed up in my new sig. I'm losing faith in Bethesda more and more. I've cancelled my pre order of Brink, and I've written off Rage completely. I don't care if they're just publishing those games, I'm sure anything they're attached to will be rushed and untested, and the consumer will get a lackluster effort in fixing it, followed by a thinly veiled middle finger.

well not exactly what i meant, what i meant was that Bethesda (probably through vote) picks a popular mod and makes it usable by 360 users or a community patch also
like just posting a mod on their downloads section and giving proper thanks to the modder kind of scenario i suppose

or better yet allow mods from the pc to be transfered via memory stick/card

The only noteworthy problems I have is that the game occasionally freezes and while Im in VATS, sometimes my character will rapidly shoot but cause no damage if I fire 4 or more shots or shoot multiple enemies. I had the same problem in Fallout 3. But all the game breaking bugs have been fixed with Patch 1.02. I dont care if I see Bark Scorpions stuck in the ground.

Yes my EVIL Power armoured EW character had to be redone and the crashes stopped, with my neutral and Good character the game was flawless other than the periodic CTD after playing a few hours... oddly this CTD was the same for Morrowwind, Oblivion, FO3 as well, even though going through 2 different OSes and 3 different computers over the years playing them and the fact I'm quite good at building computer systems, I draw on the conclusion it's the Engine... I could be wrong?

So a fresh playthrough worked for me with one problematic character.

GSTAFF, thank you for the reply. And ice cream.

It's great to hear that the priority right now is fixing the 360 patch. However, why was this even an issue in the first place? Was this patch even tested before it's release? Why aren't bugs like this being detected, especially if each patch has to go through an approval process? This isn't the first time a patch release has created problems.

A refresh install and a new game doesn't fix everything, so it would be nice to know what was fixed this time around. You claim in a previous post in the support forums that quest bugs were fixed, yet this is not indicated in the patch notes. Could we possibly see more detailed patch notes next time with everything that was fixed?

And you've also said that there is another patch in the works. Can we get details on what is being worked on and how long we can expect to wait? Please don't keep saying "more details coming soon" because soon is never what you mean and the details are always very spare. You guys have more info then you're telling us, so please start sharing it. Just tell us what you hope to fix for next time. Don't keep leaving us in the dark and wondering if X issue will ever be resolved.

Lets keep the lines of communication open. :)

I have to say that while I'm glad that they are at least trying to fix the rest of the problems with the game, I don't think they have done enough. It's been 6 months since New Vegas came out and we've had what 4 patches I think but their are still problems in the game and 1 DLC with a 2nd one coming within the next couple of weeks. I guess what I'm saying is that this game isn't getting the priority that it should be getting and this could hurt the Fallout Franchise in the future. I trust Softworks and Obsidian but they did release this game prematurely when they could've delayed the game 3 months to fix the issues and could've avoided most of the problems that this game would have. Now the game would still have some problems if it was delayed but not as many.

We paid 60$ plus 10$ for DLC to be their game testers. In 6 and a half months us 360 users have gotten just 3 patches to fix the game, with the latest just completely destroying it. The game should have been delayed a year considering they STILL can't fix it.

ILets keep the lines of communication open. :)

We try to keep the lines open as much as possible... and right now my priority is getting the details on when a new update will be available (which should be sometime tonight). Sometimes we're able to get into the nitty gritty on things, sometimes we're not.

We'll be announcing more details on the game add-ons when we're at a point where we're ready. It should be soon (I know... I use that word quite often).

Unfortunately, this is the way of the world now. Game developers and publishers are given less and less time to complete the final product, and it's not enough, to be honest. More and more games come out with bugs that should have been found in the testing phase, but they just don't have enough time to test it fully. I like New Vegas and I hope that the new patch to fix the new patch comes out pretty soon, because I was enjoying my playthrough of the game so far. But in total, I am very disappointed with the pace at which these things have been handled and I'll likely be trading in my New Vegas after I beat it. I really hope Skyrim comes out of the box in better shape than FNV has, but to be honest, my hopes are not very high after recent events.

I dont want to sound pesimist, but it aint happening, every new game from the recent years become more buggy and unstable, I expect Skyrim to be good, but in good shape, not
