When all else fails, remind yourself that you're going to be dead in a few years. No point holding back.

Also, be thankful you're not a woman. I suspect that makes being a loner a bit more difficult. At least in my experience, anyone I do talk to inevitably ends up assuming I'm their best friend, personal therapist, and future girlfriend. I call these people creepers, and they're impossible to get rid of because they are oblivious and so eager for me to be their mommy/sister/girlfriend that they don't understand what "leave me alone" means. And they are in every MMO.

You make a good point, I get that stuff if I ever roll a female character. Kinda creeps ya out after awhile.

I know the feeling and happen to me also ~shrugs~ I am play a females chars in games, but I never tell my real gender. It is so funny watch them guess that and the theory why I am a certain gender. Well, they have 50 / 50 shot of guessing it right -- lol

I can RP both genders, that will confused them also -- hehe

I'm a guy and I know what you're talking about. Even playing female characters is no walk in the park, these idiots assume that just because you play a female character you must be a woman irl and quite frankly I feel embarased when someone is clearly assuming I'm a woman and talks different or does different things for me.

Only a chick would do that. Mind games and [censored]. And if you're a guy, wtf man, mind games and [censored]?

On-topic: I agree with CCNA, I have an off and on schedule of gaming (when I have a free moment) and so I don't generally have the patience to get a group together, grind dungeons ,etc. I usually log in with one or two things in mind that I want to get done, and have fun with that. I don't generally log on just to sit in the main city jumping up and down.

One could get carried away with that attitude though.

*says while breaking into a ferrari*

That's why I just can't gender bend in MMOs. It's certainly not every player but behaviour that I never see playing a male character I will inevitable see playing a female one. I completely understand why females play male characters to avoid it.

Bear with me here -- talking about people, not game mechanics, so think NDA is safe!

I am mostly a loner in games too, but I joined a guild in beta to have somebody to talk about the game with. Random guild, as far as I was concerned... GM sent a nice PM inviting me via beta forums so I jumped in. Last test I went with guildies through three instances (these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC4GVM1kCnA&feature=share ). I was a little apprehensive because the others had been in more betas and done more instances than me, and also were a few levels above me; I hadn't done instances since I left WoW about seven years ago, and am rusty at this type of content. Long story short, guildies were cool, not in a rush (let me listen to the quest text etc), anybody who got a piece of gear they couldn't use offered it around the group, they were relaxed and happy and I only died a couple of times and nobody laughed at me, lol.

In other words, there are more civilized people out there than you think ;) You may have to kiss a few frogs before finding your prince, or guild of princes, but they're out there :)

In beta, I met a very nice grouo of guys with whom I did a dungeon. We were progressing slowly, we did wipe some times, but no one started blaming anyone. If they did, I would have quit right then.

If they start blaming you, just leave and find someone else.

A good group will not blame you, they will give you suggestions on how to improve.

You just have to find the right group of people. You're there to have fun after all, those guys are not worth your time if you don't have fun with them.

For my part, I never and will never blame someone who's doing what he can.

lol, I play only female characters... I've seen/heard some creepy things. If they go to far, /ignore lol
