Unsure about getting Skyrim

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 1:17 am

Hello gamesas forum posters

I'm in a bit of a predicament here. I'm going on a break for 2 weeks starting next weekend. I need a long game to last me a while because I'm going to be home a lot. I want to get Skyrim since I love Elder Scrolls games and it's really long, but I'm also unsure about getting it because of the issues that have been plaguing the PS3 platform. Can someone please tell me if I should buy the game? Are the issues that bad? I have an 80GB PS3 fat with 18GB free on my HDD. I plan on turning off autosave too so it doesn't lag up much. Are these problems THAT common, and will I be able to last until the patch comes out?

Help is much appreciated  thank you in advance!

Quick! Buy it then run from the forums and never look back!

Joking aside, pop into the PS3 tech issues board and then decide. It is great but slightly dangerous o your blood pressure in some cases.

Definitely get it. Patches will sort all the bugs out eventually.

It would be unintelligent to not play this masterpiece. Game of the Year, easily.

There is no denying that the PS3 has had some very serious issues that for the most part dwarf the other 2 formats.

In earnest, scout around, read up and maybe hold off a bit till you are satisfied that your gaming experience (however long or short it might be) is not tarnished unnecessary

I'd recommend you follow the PS3 tech forums on this game. Bethesda claims they'll fix the problems plaguing the PS3, but for now, I'm sure the game would be perfect if you stick under 60 hours total gameplay or so.

Yes you should get it. I have no problems with it on my ps3 which is worse than yours. You always see more negative stuff on the forums because that's just the way it is. You will have a blast playing skyrim if you liked previous games.

Some ps3 users have no problems and others have many. I don't think there is any way to track it specifically, but as others have said, follow the ps3 support areas and talk with those who mainly play on the same platform as yourself.

Advice from a PS3 user

Get it. Skyrim is one of the best games ever made.
Any glitches in the game will be worked out.
Personally I havent had many problems, some FPS drop after playing for like 10 hours on the weekend.

What Wyatt said. Rent it. Great game, but LAG is no fun. Trust me. Look up some videos on YouTube.

A temporary solution would be not to do everything on a single playthrough. Do one guild per playthrough.

Sorry, I cannot vouch for PS3 but I assumed it is the same game with the same content (mods aside). Unless you are referring to it being laggy?

i have it on xbox. its the best game to come out in the last 2-3 years easily.
avoid the forum is good advice because people nit-pick the hell out of the game, issues your probably wouldn't notice get mentioned then they become apparent.

Let me put it this way: I am beyond angry and fed up with the company, the developers, the bugs, the glitches... So upset I can't even put it into words. And THAT being said, I still LOVE THIS GAME. If I had known about all this mammoth**** to begin with, I'd STILL get the game. GET IT. And get Mass Effect while you're at it!

My PS3 version has had minimal problems. Every two weeks there seems to be a freeze but I have a big save file. It lasted me longer than a month to even wear on me. Though I am going to start playing AC: Revelations and Saint's Row the Third to get me away. If you have like TES games before then you will like this one, in my opinion, so yeah, check out the PS3 tech support forum for more info on the problems but as I said, I haven't had many.

For the PS3 I can't say. I know they were pretty bummed out. I expect thought that Bethesda will fix the PS3 edition. So if you like the series and don't mind a dumbed down elderscrolls experience it is a good buy. As far as PS3 issues go, I am sure in time they won't be a problem anymore.

Avoid it untill they patch it for use PS3 users it will cause all kinds of console problems including you having to reset your system using both a hard reset and soft reset... sometimes having to access safe mode to restore your system to working order

Sadly PC is not an option, only PS3, but thanks very VERY much for all the replies. I've decided to go with it, hopefully nothing too bad happens and disabling autosave and the new patch may delay the lag from happening to me. They said a new patch would come in January to fix the lag, and that's only a week after I get the game so hopefully it turns out well. Again, thank you for all the replies!
