Bethesda. Many of you guys say FONV was better. That's because they just added a bunch of new features to Fallout 3!
They added some new features(like hardcoe mode, Wild Wasteland), but most of the 'new' features were in the originals(Damage Threshold, perk ratio[though it used to be 3:1], Traits, Reputation, Weapon Modding, Expanded Companion Menu, good writing, the Fallout feel).

I suggest trying the originals, see the origins of Fallout. :tops: (inb4Styles)

Yeah, he should totally try the originals to see that Bethesda actually removed loads from Fallout and Obsidian just added back a bunch of the good, old stuff :P

Bethesda. Many of you guys say FONV was better. That's because they just added a bunch of new features to Fallout 3! It uses the same engine. They fixed what people complained about in Fallout 3. And I HATE the fact that you can't play after the main quest. I like to finish the story of them game then wander around and help other people.
I'm sorry but you make people like me genuine fallout3 (and the rest of the series of course)fans look bad .
Go look.up ending on wiki play all playthroughs in fonv and play fo1 and 2 then your argument might have weight.

Those "new features" added to Fallout New Vegas (most) were in Fallout and Fallout 2 that Bethesda left out of Fallout 3 :tops:

And so what if it uses the Same Engine. That's Bethesda's call. It's not like they were going to give Obsidian years to make a new game engine for it.

I suggest trying the originals, see the origins of Fallout. :tops: (inb4Styles)

*shakes fist at you* lol

But I agree he should.

Who are you aiming this at..? I hope me so I can ignore him in future replies otherwise confused is..
It was aimed at your reply to them, however; the statement about liking to start [censored] was about super nallepuh. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, yeah, because playing after an ending that stated something like "The Great Khans went north" or "The Enclave Remnants cut a hole through the legion going West" or something like that and then see that the Khans and the Remnants are still right there where you left them, and won't move anywhere nor give any hints to the ending whatsoever... That'd be awesome! Just like what Bethesda did with Broken Steel, making the ending speech totally unnecessary and untrue! Lovely!

/sarcasm

You seem to forget that in one of the old fallout's, (2? Its been a few months since I've played and beaten any of the old ones. >_<) you could play after the ending. All though that was more of an Easter Egg, which honestly is how they should handle post-credits play. Something fun for the people who bother to watch it and you don't have to unless you really want to for whatever reason.

Yeah I wouldn't mind the easter egg continuation so much, nothing is required by Bethesda there, they don't have to waste resources to fit in all the endings and can just toss in small fun dialogue pieces and stuff for fun.

Ok I may have gone a bit overboard on this one. Don't get me wrong, I love NV. The thing that pissed me off the most was the fact that you couldn't play after the Main Quest. For me personally, it is a big turn off because I am a huge fan of RPGs.

With the recent patch's system save reload after the credits it's "like" playing after the end. Just you don't have to bother with two clicks to reload the last save yourself.

This is the thing that confused me the most. If you are a fan of RPG's(role-playing) then why do you want to continue a character after his/her story is finished?

Yeah. Sure. Easter egg play. Where you can totally max out your character and just run around experimenting by destroying all the settlements in the world because it won't affect anything anymore, and the only things changed in the world are some people having funny dialogue now :P That would be ok, I guess, if it's stated that you can now roam around freely in easter land!

Yeah, like, what the hell? Why don't people get that? Huge majority of RPGs, or even all games, do end. Just because Bethesda like to allow you to continue after the end, why would that have to spill onto Fallout where story and your choices matter much more?

Stories end: Books end, films end, tv series end (unless they're american :P )
So when a game attempts to tell a story, why is it so absurd to expect it to come to an end? Hell, most games end and most RPGs end. Beth games are the exception, not the norm. Although beth games arent exactly fantastic at telling stories, so maybe thats it?

Other games I've played which don't end: GTA 3, San Andreas, Vice City (though I think the last quest bugged for me), GTA 4, Saints Row 2, Sims 1, SIms 2, Sims 3, World Of Worldcraft, Tony Hawk (I dunno, lots of them.)

What do they all have in common?
Sandbox worlds.

What does Fallout have now?
Sandbox world.

I think that's where continuation after ending comes from.
Not from RPG's or Beth Games but rather Sandbox games in general.

Yeah, i see what you mean. But even games like the Sims required you to essentially start new characters to keep playing. I dont think its a particularly beneficial practice to game design as a whole

Yeah it was a little joke based on stereotypes, guess it didnt come off right
That said, Doctor Who did end... then it had a reboot.

Also, i wouldnt consider them top quality shows, things like Fawlty Towers, Spaced, Black Books, Green Wing, The Office rarely last more than a few seasons, they tend to not want to milk them dry ~ not something ive noticed in US shows, the office is on season 8, i lost track of how many series of 24 there have been, Fringe should have ended long ago. Im not saying thats a strict rule, just an observation.

Indeed! I was just joking about Emmerdale, I don't know how they can keep going with that [censored]. Who watches it anyways? All the good stuff don't last forever. Although some good stuff don't last long enough, like Firefly.

Spaced
Wasn't it cancelled?

Cause Reaper was also cancelled on it's second season and it's a US show.
Now you have something to watch which follows the UK formula! ;)

Due to a gamebreaking glitch in NV where i couldn't enter the strip. NV was ruined for me and i never gave it another shot. tsk tsk.

So i really can't say. but apperantly obsidian did a better job on NV then bethesda did on FO3?

THIS x100000000000

Its a SANDBOX rpg. it would be absurded if you played a game like halo, beat it and then it let you roam around the levels with no enemies just for the sake of continuing. But this is a sandbox game and an rpg, and majority of players want to continue to wander the map and finish up things.

There is one thing (well actually several) which Beth didn't realize in realizing its vision of FO3.
The way one levels in a TES title, the later ones (Oblivion and Skyrim) specifically.. is actually catered to open world play...
It is impossible (not nearly impossible... it is straight out impossible) to reach max level if one would just follow a natural quest progression path.
In other words.. you are constantly rewarded for, lack of a better word, roaming around..
A "normal" RPG will have a level cap. Why.. because once you reach your max lvl.. you will have finished the quests (more than likely) and will have finished building your character..
In other words there is no real award for continuing after the MQ, especially once you have reached max lvl.. (in a world like FO3 and beyond..) it basically becomes a mediocre fps.

I hope and pray that New Vegas has made them see the light... There is a shimmer of hope.. A lot of people like hc mode..., NV sold better in its openingmonths etc.. (but ...not being able to continue was even frowned upon by freakin' reviewers.. )
