Unusual case of missing dogmeat! Please help!

Can somebody please give me some feedback / information? i rang bells at every single settlement. didn't work. i placed dog houses at every single settlement. then went to sanctuary and slept 48 hours. Then backtracked and checked each doghouse. I even managed the settlements around a little bit on my way. and no sign of Dogmeat at all. the last time i saw him he was with me in The Prydwen and i dismissed him to red rocket gas station and recruited Paladin Danse. I thought maybe he cant get down so he's stuck on The Prydwen. i looked around for him everywhere on the Prydwen For at least 3 hours cause i was convinced that the stats the pip boy shows when i hovered over The Prydwen meant that dog meat was there. i looked online and found out that the stats means that companions can be sent there. so i kept looking and found nothing. then i checked out the Boston airport for the third time and realized they had the same stats and concluded that that wasnt a coincidense since they are both properties owned by the brotherhood of steel. Ive also scrapped every dog house at sanctuary hills except one and i'm checking it every once in a while. i have checked Red Rocket many many times and same goes for every settlement ive been looking for dogmeat ever since i woke up this morning at like 9 and i havent been able to find any information except about doghouses in sanctuary which i have already tried

I think this is actually a common problem. I had him at Sanctuary for ages and he was fine there. I sent him to the Red Rocket, he never showed up, he's not at sanctuary, he's nowhere, considering it's only a 30 second walk down the road it's unfathomable how he was unable to make it!!



Lots if people have had Dogmeat run off in the wilderness (when travelling with him) and he has just kept running and never come back.



It's frustrating but unless you are on PC I do't know of any way to locate him.



It's always the case with Bethesda that the things they tend to make a big noise about never seem to function properly, like most of the in house items in Skyrim, they made me so excited to have weapon racks and mannequins in Skyrim, I was so cheesed off when I found out that none of them worked on PS3 especially.



Dogmeat was someting they showcased a lot leading up to release, so it stands to reason he would be very buggy, typical.

Um never ever dismiss a companion unless you have a mod to show them on the map, took me forever to find Strong, turns out he was walking into a tree in a random location between where I was when I told him to leave and where I wanted him to go I said "I know your strong but that tree won't fall over any time soon" I almost wanted to leave him there to see if their would ever be a super mutant sized hole in the tree.

how do you locate someone who is not listed as a quest subject? on PC?

the longer the walking distance the higher the chance and harder to find. They do have mods to find companions, hopefully they will make it to consoles soon. Instead of dissapearing where you tell them to leave and reappearing where you tell them to go they walk there and get stuck on random junk in their way.

that rocks!



now I did try the "moveto player" trick. she appeared, then immediately started trek back to sanctuary from Spectacle Isle. I stopped her and reassigned to Isle, but she never stayed.



is there a command to just see where they are currently?

It is possible you wont find him, he hasn't shown up for me in 20 plus hours now, I'm not that bothered though and I haven't been looking extensively but he should have showed up somewhere by now.



Now I always take a follower to the place I want them to stay before I dismiss them, that way they don't have to go anywhere and cannot get lost (I hope), it's served me well so far.

It's possible you haven't checked all of the doghouses, there are 4 in Sanctuary alone.

I had the same problem b4, easy fix, there are 2 other houses (broken) that had dog houses in Sanc. Dogmeat will actually use one of that as his "go to" homes... what you need to do is to make sure in your settelments, to ONLY HAVE ONE DOG HOUSE... yeah after that... no lost dog...



2 dog houses... if I recall... walking from the town bridge(over river) first house on your right, it's back yard have a dog house, the end of the co de sacm with the round about, the house on the very left, it's back yard (hard to see, you have to go to the back yard to find) break those, only put ONE doghouse, remember, Dogmeat don't walk around like other NPCs, if you don't see him... he is at a doghouse, somewhere in town,



OR... he could be dead.... I remember Fallout4, he's not "essential", you can buy/replace him...

I developed the same issue unfortunately. I tried for weeks (IG) to find him. he never showed up anywhere! only 1 dog house at each location to be sure.



Im on PC so I tried player.moveto (dogmeat code) and was transported to Sanctuary.. again!



but this time, he was there!



no idea why it worked that way for me, but seemed to be the trick..
